Chapter 20
In Scarlett's Perspective:
While I was vomiting non-stop, Sienna came over and held me, gently patting my back.
"Guys, stop!" Sienna shouted at the crowd around us, then she immediately bent down and whispered in my ear "Are you okay?"
I shook my head, unable to speak.
"Stop buzzing around Alexander like a fly!" Isabella was still cursing me with a megaphone not far away.
"Shut up!" Sienna suddenly shouted at Isabella, "Flies only buzz around crap!"
"And, don't you know that it's Alexander who is approaching Scarlett now?" Sienna's words silenced Isabella and the onlookers.
Then, under everyone's gaze, Sienna helped me leave.
"Are you feeling any better? Do you need to go to the hospital?" On the way home, Sienna was very cautious.
Feeling nauseous, I couldn't speak and simply shook my head. I knew my condition was only mild and did not require a trip to the hospital. Upon arriving home, Olivia was the one who opened the door.
Of course, it wouldn't be anyone else. Emily wouldn't open the door for anyone other than Olivia.
"Thank you for bringing Scarlett back!" Olivia thanked Sienna and then helped me inside.
"Do you need my help?" Sienna asked worriedly, peeking inside from the doorway.
"I'm much better." I immediately waved to Sienna and squeezed out a sentence from my throat.
The nausea was overwhelming. I couldn't stand and curled up on the couch.
"Are you okay?" Olivia tentatively patted my back. Seeing that I didn't react painfully, she carefully sat beside me.
"I should be fine." I took a deep breath and barely suppressed the dry heaves, "I don't know why, but I've been dried heaving these days."
"Maybe my stomach is upset. I'll feel better after throwing up." I murmured as I rubbed my chest and then propped myself up to sit.
I turned to look at Olivia and found her staring at me with a serious expression.
"What's wrong?" I immediately looked at myself, "Is my clothes dirty?"
"Are you rekindling your old flame with Alexander?" Olivia suddenly asked tentatively.
I was taken aback. Olivia should know that a reconciliation between Alexander and me was impossible. Why would she suggest such a thing?
"Of course not." I was puzzled, "Why would you ask that?"
"That's very strange then." Olivia shook her head, muttering, "When I was pregnant with Emily, I had the same reaction."
"But don't worry, it might just be a coincidence." Olivia suddenly snapped out of it; seeing me staring at her, she quickly smiled. "A severe cold can also cause vomiting."
But she still frowned, seemingly deep in thought.
"Yeah, I think so too." I nodded.
I pretended not to care as I leaned back on the couch, but Olivia's words kept echoing in my mind.
Could I really be pregnant?
I looked at my abdomen, flat with no signs of pregnancy.
"I need to get some fresh air." Stretching, I walked towards the door.
The thought "I might be pregnant" weighed heavily on me.
I had to admit, once you start wondering if you're pregnant, the mental burden increaseed significantly.
After wandering the streets, I stopped by a pharmacy to purchase a pregnancy test, discreetly tucking it into my pocket. When I arrived back at Olivia's house, it was already evening.
"You're finally back." Olivia was preparing dinner. When she saw me walk in, she immediately came over.
During dinner, I was absent-minded and took a few bites before heading back to my room.
As the suspicion of being pregnant weighed on my mind, sleep became elusive. I gazed at the pregnancy test for a prolonged period before gathering the courage to head to the bathroom.
"Oh my God!" The two lines on the pregnancy test startled me, my hands began to tremble and I instinctively threw the test into the trash can.
I'm pregnant with Lucas's child? This is such a dramatic turn of events.
"What's wrong? Are you okay?" Just as I was panicking, not knowing what to do, Olivia anxiously pushed open the bathroom door.
She froze immediately.
"Are you pregnant?" Her eyes fell on the trash can , and then she looked at me in shock.
I slowly nodded.
"Is it Alexander's child?" Olivia paused for a moment, then suddenly demanded angrily, "Did you actually reconcile with that jerk?"
I knew Olivia's temper. Her anger was likely because she didn't want me to go back to someone like Alexander.
"Of course not!" I immediately clarified to Olivia, "The father of the child is definitely not Alexander."
"It better not be him, or I'll make him pay!" Olivia had never had a good temper towards Alexander.
I didn't disclose my complicated relationship with Lucas to Olivia. The intricacies of my involvement in Mafia connections were not something I wanted to entangle Olivia in.
"You should rest. I need to sleep too." I forced a smile at Olivia, "Don't worry."
We each returned to our rooms, but I couldn't sleep.
I stared at the darkened screen of my phone, feeling a mix of emotions.
I wondered, 'Should I tell Lucas about this? Would he get into trouble because of it?'
My mind was in turmoil; memories of Lucas flooded my thoughts. Before I knew it, I had already dialed Lucas's number.
Damn! What had I done?
"What's wrong? Do you need my help?" I was about to hang up when Lucas's voice came through the phone, "Scarlett?"
My finger hovered in the air and it took me a while to snap out of it.
I couldn't believe Lucas answered so quickly. It was the middle of the night!
"How's your injury?" I was at a loss on how to confront him. The news of the pregnancy came as a sudden shock.
"Almost healed." Lucas hesitated before replying, "Don't worry about me."
"How's the family business? Gabriel didn't give you a hard time, did he?" I asked all the questions I could think of.
I had multiple chances to inform Lucas about my pregnancy, but I lacked the courage to do so.
"Did you call so late just to ask these questions?" Lucas remained silent for a few seconds, and then suddenly asked, "Are you okay? Is something wrong?"
"Of course not!" I immediately explained, "I'm just worried about you."
"Worried about me?" Lucas seemed to start doubting me, "You worry about me and you call me so late?"
"Have you been bullied or experienced something unpleasant recently?" His tone shifted abruptly, "If someone has upset you, just tell me. I'll handle it!"
Lucas must have misunderstood something.
"It's not like that!" I panicked and blurted out, "I'm pregnant."
