Chapter 29
In Scarlett's Perspective:
"I can't forgive you." But I ended up shaking my head.
Upon awakening, I harbored the hope that Alexander would regain his memory. I naively believed that rekindling his memory would reignite our love.
However, reality proved otherwise. Alexander was not the affectionate partner I had envisioned; instead, he exhibited coldness, arrogance, and disdain towards others.
I could no longer accept a man like Alexander as my lover.
"Leave now. I don't want to see you." Normally, I might have angrily called Alexander a jerk. But today, it felt like all my energy had been drained. I didn't want to argue with him, nor did I want to waste my time on him.
"Listen to me, Scarlett!" Alexander still wouldn't give up, pounding on my car door.
"I don't want to listen."I rolled up the window, muffling his voice.
"Get out of here, or do you want me to send you leave?" I saw Lucas approaching and could vaguely hear them talking.
I don't know what Lucas said to Alexander, but after a few arguments, Alexander dejectedly returned to his car.
"It's over. Let's go." Lucas took us back and carried Emily back to her room.
"What's wrong?" He looked at my dazed expression and cautiously asked.
"I'm so tired." I suddenly felt weak and collapsed into Lucas's arms.
We fell asleep in each other's arms, which made me feel a bit better.
The next morning, I went to school as usual, only to be stopped by Alexander at the school gate.
"Have you had breakfast?" He suddenly came up to me.
Finding Alexander peculiar, I chose not to respond and swiftly walked away. However, he showed no signs of departing and continued to trail behind me.
"Can you give me a chance to explain?" Alexander was very sincere, but I had nothing to say to him.
Since I didn't respond, he followed me all the way to the classroom door.
"I'm going to class. Stop following me." I finally couldn't take it anymore and turned around, pointing at Alexander's nose and shouting at him.
"I have a class here too." Alexander replied indifferently as he followed me in.
I sat in my seat, and he immediately sat next to me.
"What exactly do you want?" I whispered, trying to get him to leave, but he pretended not to hear.
"Scarlett, you said you wanted to distance yourself from Alexander, and now just a few days later, you're cozying up to him?" A classmate suddenly mocked me.
After my relationship with Lucas was exposed online, I faced widespread animosity at school. My classmates, in particular, were hostile and began to isolate me.
"Is our future lawyer actually a Mafia henchwoman?" They laughed again.
I struggled to clarify the situation. With Alexander constantly by my side, an observer might assume we were very close.
"Alexander, stop pestering me!" I was about to break down, standing up and loudly accusing him.
"Listen to me, it's not what you think." But Alexander remained unmoved, still trying to explain.
"I've said it many times. I don't want to hear it!" I slapped Alexander hard and warned, "If you have nothing else to say, go back to your seat!"
"I just want you to hear me out." He suddenly looked sad and said, "It's all because of Isabella. She said there were big conflicts between us, and that I hated you. I believed her and did so many things to hurt you."
His way of shifting the blame made me nauseous.
After Olivia's death, Alexander did the same, shifting blame onto others and even publicly stating that it was Olivia's fault for her own demise.
"I'll do anything if you forgive me." He said, trying to hug me.
I dodged Alexander's embrace and pushed him away hard.
"Scarlett, are you crazy?" Hearing the commotion, I realized Isabella was standing at the door. She looked furious, her eyes red as she rushed over.
"Do you take me for a fool?" Isabella cursed, trying to tear my clothes, "If you dare seduce Alexander again, I'll kill you!"
She seemed out of sorts. I was unaware of her prior experiences, but she appeared to be in distress.
"Stop talking nonsense! I'm not interested in him or you!" I pushed Isabella away forcefully. "Stop making a scene!"
But Isabella wasn't satisfied, immediately getting up and pulling out a gun.
"Scarlett, are you scared now? Kneel down and apologize to me, and I'll forgive you." Isabella laughed, pointing the gun at me.
"I don't think you'll kill me." I walked towards her. "You wouldn't want to face Lucas's wrath."
Her expression changed from smug to reluctant, possibly because I showed no fear towards her.
"I don't dare kill you, but what about them?" Isabella suddenly turned the gun towards the other classmates.
"Isabella, calm down!" Honestly, seeing her pointing the gun at my classmates made my heart race.
Isabella laughed maniacally, the gun trembling slightly.
"Isabella, you studied here. You should know what happens if you kill someone, right?" I slowly approached her, trying to calm her down.
But it was useless; Isabella acted as if she couldn't hear me, staring at me wide-eyed.
I closed in on Isabella, leaped forward, snatched the gun from her hand, and pinned her to the ground. I twisted her wrist and kicked the gun away.
"Calm down!" I shouted into Isabella's ear, trying to bring her back to her senses, but it only enraged her.
"Scarlett, you bitch! You're already with Lucas, and you still want to seduce Alexander. You're shameless!" She struggled and cursed.
"Lucas isn't good to you either; maybe he doesn't even love you!" Suddenly, Isabella sneered at me and said, "Lucas is heading to a showdown today, and he didn't take you with him.
"Lucas didn't even tell you about it, did he?" Isabella looked at me incredulously.
A showdown? Lucas never mentioned that!
My heart sank. If Lucas felt the need to keep something from me, it must be serious. Despite the danger, I couldn't allow him to face it alone.
In a panic, I asked Isabella for the address of the showdown and immediately ran out.
I didn't have time to verify if Isabella was deceiving me. If her words were true, I didn't dare to contemplate the consequences; I simply couldn't afford to stop running.
When I reached the address Isabella mentioned, I saw blood and bodies everywhere before I even got close.
Living in the slums had toughened me up, but I still felt sick to my stomach.
"Lucas?" I followed the blood trail inside, softly calling his name.
The yard was eerily quiet until a gunshot broke the silence as I reached the deepest part.
The sound was close, and I found Lucas standing in front of me, having just killed a man.
Blood splattered across his face as he slowly turned to meet my gaze.
