Chapter 27
In Lucas's Perspective:
I didn't know what Isabella was thinking. Who gave her the courage to come here and question me?
I looked at her coldly, waiting to see what else she could say.
"You actually used the family's power to go against Alexander for Scarlett." Clearly, Isabella was still very nervous in front of me; her voice was trembling. "Are you crazy?"
"So what?" I retorted.
What I did was exactly what the Mafia should do.
"Is it worth jeopardizing the future of the Bennett family for a woman?" Isabella's face twisted. She had always been afraid of me, ever since we were children.
"Isabella, you'd better think clearly about who you're talking to." I gave her a cold smile and said, "Do you want me to reveal what you and Alexander have been doing in secret?"
"What did we do?" Isabella was a bit guilty but still puffed out her chest. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"I know exactly where those pills went," I looked her in the eyes and said, "You wouldn't want the Bennett family to know about this, would you?"
Isabella was startled, immediately shrinking back.
"Lucas, wait and see!" Isabella took two steps back but still glared at me viciously. "You've offended so many people; you'll definitely face retaliation! Maybe they can't retaliate against you, but they'll definitely go after Scarlett." With that, Isabella turned to leave.
I wouldn't let her leave so easily, of course. Anyone who provoked me will pay the price, and Isabella was no exception.
"Mark, throw her out." I pointed at Isabella and waved my hand.
Mark immediately came over from the side.
"Cover her mouth. Don't let her disturb Scarlett." After saying that, I turned and walked into the ward without looking back.
After closing the door, I realized my heart was beating faster than usual.
I pondered, 'What am I worried about? Scarlett? Or the family feud?' I couldn't tell.
I knew that my actions against the Cole family had caused dissatisfaction among many families and people.
But I did this not just for Scarlett. Although, dealing with the Cole family did give me some satisfaction.
The Mafia wasn't as terrible an organization as people think. We've always maintained a delicate balance with those who operate under the law.
But these bastards had overstepped their bounds; they no longer considered the interests and dignity of certain people.
If this continued, all the Mafia members might be doomed.
If I didn't clean out these unruly families, it wouldn't just be these overstepping idiots who get wiped out.
"Boss, it's been handled." Mark quickly returned to the ward after sending Isabella away.
"Has the Bennett family been too active lately?" I looked at Mark, seeking his opinion.
"Boss, their business is becoming increasingly unscrupulous. Even if we don't clean them up, they'll eventually become prey for others." Mark was sharp in this regard. "By then, no one will be able to live in peace."
I thought the same, but some people not only didn't understand but also tried to stop me.
"But some people don't see it that way." I couldn't help but sigh, feeling helpless. "They really want to kill me."
Mark patted my shoulder. Mark and I weremore like brothers; we had been through many dangers together.
At this point, he was the only person I couldtrust.
Since I started cleaning out these overstepping families, things have gotten increasingly out of control.
I had already faced two assassination attempts and various traps set specifically for me. Even my car had been tampered with.
If I weren't extremely cautious, I probably wouldn't be alive today.
"She doesn't know about these things, right?" Looking at Scarlett, I still felt a pang of heartache. She shouldn't have to bear this, but because she's with me, she had to be cautious every day.
Just like today, Scarlett could have fought back or even had a big argument with those guys talking nonsense. But she couldn't do anything because she was my girlfriend.
"Miss Bennett doesn't know about these things." Mark immediately nodded.
"I think she would understand me," I muttered to myself.
I didn't know if this counted as self-comfort. I was afraid these things would worry Scarlett, so I never told her.
But now the situation changed rapidly, and I couldn't let her out of my sight.
Just like Isabella said, they couldn't retaliate against me, but they could target Scarlett.
She was just a young girl and didn't have a gun.
"If I hope she stays by my side all the time, she probably wouldn't agree." Looking at her sleeping face, I couldn't help but feel a bit bitter.
"I think Miss Bennett is an independent person; she probably won't easily listen to you." Mark's thoughts coincided with mine.
Actually, the last thing I wanted to do was interfere with Scarlett's freedom, but now I had to take some measures for her safety.
"The IV is finished." I woke Scarlett up. "Let's go home."
"Sorry, I accidentally fell asleep." She looked at me sleepily, her arm still bleeding a bit.
"It's okay. Let's go home and sleep." I helped Scarlett get out of bed, but she suddenly went limp and almost fell.
I had to carry her back to the car.
Because I had to take care of Scarlett, Mark drove on the way back.
When we got home, Scarlett had fallen asleep again, so I had to carry her back to the room and clean her up.
The next morning, I woke up early as usual, while Scarlett was still sleeping.
Emily was in another room. She was taken care of by a nanny, so I didn't let Scarlett sleep with her.
Since Olivia's incident, Scarlett had probably been very tense. I hadn't seen her sleep so soundly in a long time.
When it was about time, I returned to the room to wake Scarlett up. After all, there weren't many opportunities to sleep in without worries.
"Wake up." I gently patted Scarlett's shoulder, but she just frowned and turned over.
"I made breakfast; you can get up and eat." I moved to the other side of the bed and wrapped my arm around her waist.
She groggily lifted her eyelids and then hugged my arm.
"No." Her soft chest gently rubbed against my arm, making me feel hot.
"Alright, darling." I tried to pull my arm out of Scarlett's embrace but ultimately failed.
"Kiss me, and I'll get up." She seemed to wake up a bit but still looked at me with dreamy eyes and slightly opened her mouth.
Her lips were like cherries, moist and full. Every time I kissed her, I couldn't get enough.
I kissed Scarlett with a smile, then let her hang onto me as I took her to freshen up.
In front of me, she was always the little girl who loved to act spoiled, and I was willing to pamper her like this forever.
"I have a piece of good new for you." Sitting at the dining table, I took out the document I had prepared.
"Is it the trial notice from Gateway of Justice Law Firm? I've always wanted to apply for an internship there!" Scarlett, with bread in her mouth, was so excited she almost jumped up.
