Chapter 19
In Scarlett's Perspective:
"Take your medicine." I handed Lucas the pills and water and then sat back down.
I didn't dare to get too close to Lucas right now. Ever since he got sick, many family partners and relatives from the Bennett family have come and gone.
They said they were here to check on Lucas, but their intentions were far from pure.
Some come with gifts, fawning over Lucas just to gain benefits from him or to get closer to the Bennett family.
There were also a few girls like Isabella, who were forced by their parents to befriend Lucas.
But no matter their intentions, when they appeared in the hospital room, their eyes always fell on me.
Then they looked meaningfully at Lucas, as if asking "Is this girl important to you?"
Especially when Isabella came, I was almost discovered by her!
Lucas extended his arm, but I quickly pulled away. "Lucas, tell me the truth," I demanded, looking directly into his eyes, "Is your body fully healed?"
I'd been keeping my distance from Lucas, not wanting our relationship to be misunderstood.
Setting aside personal feelings, I certainly didn't want Lucas to find himself in a vulnerable position right after recovering from a serious illness or face another altercation with Gabriel.
"How is that possible? I'm still very weak." Lucas immediately pretended to be uncomfortable and coughed twice.
"Are you pretending to be sick just to keep me by your side?" I continued to press him, but Lucas suddenly averted his gaze, no longer looking at me.
Lucas was silent for a long time before he smiled helplessly.
"Come over here." He beckoned me with his hand.
"Even if I walk over..." I took a step forward, but Lucas suddenly pulled me into his arms.
I didn't expect Lucas to do that. I immediately widened my eyes and pushed him hard.
But he was unmoved, looking at me with a smile.
"Stop pretending to be sick. If Gabriel finds out, he'll definitely punish you again. What if you get hurt again?" I couldn't imagine how Lucas's body would recover if Gabriel beat him like this again!
Lucas didn't say anything, just held me tighter, then kissed me deeply.
"If it's for you, I'm willing." Lucas's stubbornness left me at a loss for how to persuade him.
Why was he so stubborn? Being with me was impossible! Besides, I didn't even know what my feelings for him were right now.
Lucas kissed me passionately and lovingly, and I couldn't help but get lost in it.
I knew very well that he was flirting with me to shut me up.
I know Lucas too well; his reaction likely means his body has already recovered.
"You should be discharged." After the kiss ended, I was gasping for breath, but I hadn't forgotten my purpose.
I didn't want to delay Lucas's work. Gabriel disliked me, and if I did anything else to affect Lucas, Gabriel wouldn't let me off.
"I'll get better soon." Lucas hugged me again.
Only then did I nod in satisfaction.
After helping him clean his wounds, I left the hospital.
Lately, I don't know why. When I was walking on the street, Lucas's image always came to mind, especially the moment he kissed me, which I vividly recall.
I didn't acknowledge this relationship and had been avoiding facing Lucas.
But today, I suddenly felt the sweetness of a heart nourished by love.
I couldn't help but think of Lucas's appearance, his actions, and the things he said and did.
"Scarlett, why are you so absent-minded?" One day, while walking with Sienna, she suddenly shook my arm.
I realized I had been daydreaming about Lucas again.
"Nothing." I shook my head and looked at Sienna.
The next moment, I almost bumped into a girl.
"Move away." She stood in front of me, showing no intention of making way.
I tried to stop her, but she angrily walked towards me instead.
"Scarlett, you're in the way!" Her friends knew my name. "Get out of the way!"
At that moment, the girls looked me up and down mockingly. Initially, I had planned to walk away, but their provocative words made me realize they were intentionally seeking confrontation.
"You walked into me. If anyone should move, it's you." I stood my ground with my hands on my hips.
I had plenty of ways to make them embarrassed.
"Shut up! Get lost!" Alexander suddenly appeared and stopped them.
Why was Alexander here? Why would he help me?
"Thanks." I didn't look at Alexander; just coldly thanked him and was about to leave.
Although what Alexander did surprised me, I no longer had feelings for him.
He did so many things that disgusted me. Even if he saved me now, I couldn't change my opinion of him.
"I have something to tell you." Alexander stopped me, his expression showing that he knew he had done wrong.
"No need." I was about to refuse, but he suddenly grabbed me anxiously.
"Scarlett, that's not what I mean," Alexander anxiously explained, refusing to let go, "Some of my memories have come back, but they're still not clear."
During the two years I was in a coma, Alexander hadn't regained his memory. Why did he gain them now?
I didn't believe what he was saying.
But hearing about Alexander's memories, I hesitated. I had done so much, only to be maliciously hurt by him in the end.
I followed Alexander, but I had already seen his true colors. Even if he regained his memories, I couldn't be with him again.
Maybe because I had invested too much in this relationship, I didn't feel like letting go.
"You know, I've forgotten so much." In the alley, Alexander held my hand, looking at me with deep emotion.
If it were the former me, I might have fallen in love again. But now, I only felt disgust.
"But my memories are starting to return." Alexander urgently tried to assure me. "I recall our relationship and many details about us."
"Really? What does that have to do with me?" I looked at him expressionlessly. "We're already divorced. It's best not to meet privately. See you in court." Before I finished speaking, the school bell rang.
When I learned that Alexander had regained his memory, I was momentarily shocked. However, I soon regained my composure. Despite his memory loss, Alexander's actions had been disappointing, revealing his true character. Even if he remembered our past, I couldn't reconcile with him.
I didn't give Alexander a chance to explain and went straight back to the classroom.
The class ended quickly, and when I walked out, I saw Alexander.
"Sorry, Scarlett." He held a megaphone, standing outside and apologizing to me loudly, "I apologize for everything I did. Please give me a chance to make it up to you!"
He shouted, attracting a lot of onlookers.
Had Alexander gone mad?
"Scarlett? The girl whose nudes were posted on the forum?" Everyone was whispering.
"They say it was this guy who posted the photos online."
All eyes were on me, making me feel uneasy.
"Stop shouting!" I yelled at Alexander, wanting him to stop, but he was unmoved.
Soon, Isabella appeared in the crowd.
Alexander's actions attracted so much attention, so I wasn't surprised that the news would reach Isabella quickly.
Isabella angrily walked up to Alexander and snatched the megaphone from his hand.
"Scarlett! Stop seducing Alexander!" Isabella yelled at me.
The people around started whispering again.
Did I seduce Alexander? What a joke!
The chatter and Isabella's relentless scolding surrounded me, creating a cacophony.
Suddenly, I felt dizzy, my stomach churned, and I couldn't help but start vomiting.
