Chapter 39 Caught You
“Oh my God,” Bess said looking at Anna with a sad expression on her face, “How do you know?”
“They have done various things, including trying to seduce my husband, so I think that puts them as prime suspects. I just need proof.”
“Erin was always a bitch so I can believe it, she always thought she was better than anyone else because she was your husband’s secretary, just because she was in the big office, no offense.”
“None taken, “Anna said with a smile, “My husband’s office is pretty obnoxiously big.”
“Better to move around in than our little spaces right?” Bess said with a sly smile.
Anna blushed as she realized what Bess must know. “Oh my god, how did you…?”
“Don’t worry about it, I just take care of the security cams in this sector and the cam in your office alerted me when you came in.”
“Bess….”
“Hey, I understand, if my husband looked at me like yours looks at you I would take advantage of it too. I switched the cameras off when the action started.”
Anna smiled and hid the blush that stormed her cheeks. “You’re the best, thank you.”
“Anytime,” Bess said with a smile as she typed on her screen. “Using the information you gave me I think I just about got it, just a few more minutes.”
“Wow, that was quick.”
“Hey, I am the mistress of all things Technological, I just wish more people noticed my greatness.”
Anna looked at Bess as the program ran. Bess’s eyes had strayed more than once to the team picture sitting on her desk. Anna saw the quick glance she gave Nathan in the picture before turning back to her screen.
“Nathan huh?”
Bess’s eyes switched to Anna in panic, “Hey no, Nathan and I are just friends.”
“But you want more right?”
“I… might but he goes for the flashier supermodel type.”
“Maybe he sees more than you think? Maybe we can help him see more?”
“Maybe,” Bess smiled and nodded jerking her eyes back to the screen as it began to beep. “Got ya.” She said with a small smile as she turned the screen toward Anna and pushed play.

John, Anna, and Bess gathered around the desk. John nodded and Bess hit run on the listening program and waited while the sound booted up.
John took Anna’s hand and kissed it making her smile. The tinny sound of the line came through as Erin’s phone picked up.
“Erin, Where are you? You told me you were going to talk to John.” The emphasis on the word talk sounded loud in the quiet room making Anna’s skin crawl. “What happened?”
“He fired me and threw me out. That bit$% Anna was there and he stuck by her.”
“Of course he did,” The voice on the other end was scratchy and Anna was having trouble making it out. “He doesn’t want to admit he wants to be free of her.”
Erin’s voice shook and Anna heard a sniff as Erin tried to get ahold of herself. “You told me that he wanted me, you practically forced me to hang all over him at the party and tonight.”
“Darling you have to take some losses for the good of the team.”
“My job is not an acceptable loss!” Erin cried.
“It is if you end up with him in the end right?”
“I don’t think that’s going to happen and I’m tired of listening to you.”
“You had better not double-cross me or I swear…”
“What are you going to do?” Erin asked in a bored voice.
“I will ruin you.”
“I already lost my job, what more can you do?”
“Don’t test me.”
“I’m not afraid of you.”
“You should be.” The second voice hissed as they ended the call.
The chilling words in the other person’s tone struck something deep inside Anna. She shivered in fear at the dead cold tone in the other person’s voice. This person would have no trouble getting rid of anyone who got in her way.
The call ended abruptly and the line went to empty air. “ Da&^ it! Bess said angrily as she tapped a few buttons on her keyboard. “The trace was blocked by cell privacy software, it will take me a while to find out whose number that was.”
“I think I have an idea,” Anna said as John put his arm around her. The voice was scratchy but something about the way she talked to Erin seemed all too familiar to her.
“Well let me try the security footage tapes and let you know what I find out. Now that I have the codes I can access the last few months. It might take a while though.”
“We understand,” John said with a sad smile as he helped Anna to her feet. “I’m taking Anna back to her office.”
“Thank you, Bess, you’ve been a lifesaver,” Anna said sadly. “Possibly literally,” Anna thought as they closed the door to the office behind them.
