Chapter 47 Havoc

Anna didn’t sleep that night. Her mind swam with worry. Their marriage was under fire from Isabel’s schemes, and Melissa and May were trying to get rid of her by whatever means necessary, it was exhausting.
“What am I going to do? She thought as she wiped away a tear “I want John but there is so much against us.” She hated these thoughts and worries but the more she tried to push them down the more popped up.
John stirred in his sleep and she lovingly ran his eyes over him. He grasped his pillow with his muscular arms and slept on unaware of her turmoil. “I can’t lose him,” she told herself firmly. “My mother might have been poor but she was brave as hell and wouldn’t have believed that I would let this get to me.”
“Hey,” John said sleepily “come back to bed, it’s too early to be up.”
“I will in just a minute.”
“Nope come back to bed now, or else you’ll just sit there all night once I go back to sleep.”
Anna laughed, “You think so?”
“I know so.”
Anna crawled back into bed and he snuggled up against her back. “See now I know you will go back to sleep.”
“Or at least make a pretty good snuggle buddy while you do.”
“What’s wrong?”
“Just can’t sleep, there has been so much going on.”
“It’s all going to be okay. Isabel is gone and Mother and May will be all moved out in the next few days. We don’t have to see them again anytime soon. Things should be much calmer now.”
“You think it’s going to stop because we kicked them out?”
“I think it will be fine from here on out.”
“I hope your right, I have this feeling that they are not done with us yet.”
“Well we are going to find out who doctored those pictures for Isabel and take care of them too.”
“Wow you sound like some kind of scary Mafioso “We will take care of them too”.”
“Quiet woman,” he laughed back at her “Or I will show you how a mob boss is respected by his woman.”
“Really? It always comes back to sex with you.”
John flipped her over and pulled her against his chest nibbling her ear “only when it comes to you.”
Anna sighed and wrapped herself around her husband holding him tighter. She watched the sunrise as they made love and decided that she was not going to take this anymore, she was going to get her revenge.

Anna opened the office door and with a little convincing the receptionist took Anna to May’s office to wait for her. Anna didn’t wait till the door closed before she started looking for the ledger that she knew May kept in her office.
“Where are you?” Anna asked as she ran her hands along the underside of the desk. When she’d lived this before it had been hidden behind a panel on the back of one of the desk drawers. Anna scrambled until her hands found the latch and pulled out the slim book inside.
“Oh my God,” Anna said to herself as she opened the ledger and looked at the accounts. May had been surprisingly meticulous. The ledger showed amounts of money May had put into the companies system and the real amount that was paid by the client. “There have to be two million dollars in differences here, this is going to be serious jail time.”
“Not if no one sees it,” May said from the doorway. She slammed it shut and stalked toward Anna. “Give it to me.”
“No” Anna said pulling it back. “I can’t do that.”
“You will give it to me or I will have to take it from you. I’m not sure how you found it you little weasel but I’m not going to let you ruin me.”
“What and break a nail, I don’t think so.”
May stepped toward her and put her hand on Anna’s neck. “Give me that ledger.” She squeezed and Anna dropped the ledger as she pulled at May’s hands. Anna managed to pull her fingers free as May grabbed the ledger.
“I told you nothing is going to stand in the way of my job. Now get out of my office before I call security.”
“How can you do something like this? Everyone trusts you to take care of the money and you are ripping them all off.”
“You don’t have proof that I’ve done anything wrong.”
“You are going to pay for what you’ve done.”
“Who’s going to make me? Like I said you have no proof.”
“Oh but I do,” Anna said as she pulled her purse off the desk and pulled out her cell phone. She pushed stop on her recording app and showed it May. “I think this will convince anyone.”
“You Bi$%h!” May screamed as she tried to grab the phone from Anna. Anna hit her and she went down hard.
The door opened and May’s boss filled the doorway with security behind him. He nodded to Anna who handed him the ledger and her phone. He listened to it as the security guard pulled May to her feet.
“Sir I know it looks bad but I can explain.” May sputtered as her boss looked at her coldly.
“No need to explain, I think this does a fine job doing it for you.” He nodded to the security guard who hauled her out of the office. “I think the police need to know about this.”
May screamed and spit over her shoulder, “This will never stick!. You had better be careful because I won’t forget this. John won’t either.”
“What are you talking about?” Anna asked as she watched May being pulled away.
“John will never forgive you for turning me in, your marriage is over.”
