Chapter 66 Confronting The Family

John screamed as he saw Anna get in Bess’s car and pull away. He wanted to gag but slumped instead on the wall. His head snapped against the wall as he pulled his arm back and slammed it into the wall. His fist hit the drywall and the satisfying crack as it splintered satisfied something inside him. His panicked mind swayed as he wondered what the hell he was going to do.
“Hey, man are you okay?” Nate said as he put his hand on John’s shoulder and eased his hand out of the wall. There was a bloody imprint of his fist against the drywall and his knuckles were bleeding. “Sh*t man, you need to see a doctor.”
“No, I have to kick someone’s A**,” John growled as he pulled his hand against his chest. “Give me your phone, This ends now.”
Nate handed John his phone and he dialed his mother. She answered on the first ring.
“Mother where are you?”
“I’m actually here at your house with a very upset Isabel, John how could you do this?”
“I’m sorry, how can I do this? Are you crazy?”
“John I don’t like your tone,” Melissa sniffed “where are you?”
John counted to ten and knew that he had to do this in person. “I’m coming home stay there.”
“I would say so, we have to straighten this out.”
“We certainly do.” He agreed as he hung up the phone and handed it back to Nate.
“Take me home bud, I have some trash to take out.”

John pushed the front door of the house open not even caring that it bounced against the wall, the hours of the long night had passed and now dawn was breaking as he stepped over the thresh hold. He stalked toward the living room. “Mother!” he yelled as he stormed into the room “where are you?”
“I’m here why are you yelling? If anyone should be mad it’s me, I was up all night cleaning up your mess.”
John didn’t even know what to say as he saw the scene set up in front of him. Isabel sat on the couch with May beside her with her arm around her. Isabel’s eyes were closed and tears streaked down her face. May glared at him as if he were the lowest form of slime.
“How dare you say something like that to me?”
Melissa stomped toward him and slapped him hard across the face. “I didn’t raise you to be disrespectful to women and now you have disrespected Isabel and me. What has gotten into you?”
“I swear mother if you don’t get back I don’t know what I’ll do.”
Melissa stepped back glaring at him, her mouth turned up in disapproval. “You are acting crazy, have a drink, there’s some whiskey right over there.”
“Funny you should mention that mother as this is what Isabel used to drug me.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Mother don’t play dumb, you are far from it.”
“I really don’t know what you’re talking about John.” Melissa said with a snarl “All I do know is Isabel is here crying her eyes out after you slept with her and now you are refusing to divorce Anna and marry her.”
“Mother Isabel told me everything. How you told her to drug me and get me into bed and then demand I divorce Anna. She threw you under the bus.”
May had the grace to look surprised but John doubted that was genuine either. Melissa sputtered as she rounded on Isabel obviously at a loss as to what to say. “You bit**!” She screamed as she approached Isabel and slapped her hard “you’ve ruined everything.”
Isabel pushed her off and onto her butt on the floor. May jumped up and stepped back distancing herself from the situation.
“I can’t believe you both did this.” She said with a disapproving tone as she glared at them.
John shook his head, realizing the ploy for what it was, May was in this up to her perfectly cut hair. “Shut up May I know you helped them.”
May jerked back and sat silently back on the couch. Melissa stood and faced John. She breathed deeply trying to compose herself but the wild look in her eyes belied the facade of calm she was trying for.
“It’s true then?” Why would you do something so evil.”
“Yes, it’s true!” Melissa screamed folding her arms “At least I didn’t want to kill Anna like Isabel did.”
A stunned silence followed as the energy in the room ratcheted up a notch as John faced Isabel. “You wanted to do what?
“I wanted to get rid of her.” Isabel said simply as the injured woman act vanished and the cold viper took her place “Why wouldn’t I? She’s in my way.”
“In your way? What on earth are you talking about?”
“in the way of you marrying me.”
John stepped toward her and grabbed her arm tightly pulling her closer “listen carefully, I would never marry you every whether Anna was here or not.”
John pushed Isabel away and rounded on his mother. “How dare you set up so evil and devious a scheme, can’t you understand that without Anna I’ll never be happy.”
“I don’t understand why she is nothing.”
“She is everything to me!” John yelled slamming his hand down on the table. “I swear if I didn’t need you I would kick you out right now. I wish there was something I could call the police and charge you with.”
“What are you talking about? Police? You’re crazy I haven’t done anything wrong.”
“I’m pretty sure drugging me breaks some law.”
“You wouldn’t!”
“I would. The only thing saving you is that I need you to confess to what you’ve done.”
“I’m not saying anything to her, let her go.”
“Nate, can I borrow your phone?” He asked with deadly calm walking back into the hallway “I have a phone call to make.” Nate tossed him his phone and John began to dial 911.
“Fine, I’ll tell her, just hang up!” Melissa screamed when she saw him dialing.
John hung up the phone and handed it back to Nate. He swung around to face Melissa, May, and Isabel. “After today you are all to stay away from Anna and I. I don’t want you around. If I were you I would leave Asheville.”
“Surely you don’t mean it.” Melissa and May chorused at the same time “You are our family.”
“Not anymore, now get dressed.” John snarled at them his eyes ice-cold, "we are going to save my marriage."
