Chapter 23 Have you fallen in love with me?
Her rosy cheeks were so tender they appeared captivating, and her eyes were filled with a shallow intoxication. Within her smile, it seemed she encompassed the gentlest affection in the world.
The once decisive and straightforward Sophia also had such a tender and enchanting side. At this moment, Remington looked at her a few more times.
Remington's heart was beating irregularly, pounding within his chest.
At this moment, Sophia smiled slightly, seemingly intoxicated. "Remington, thank you."
"It was just applying medicine for a few days, there's no need to be so polite," Remington looked at her, trying his best to maintain his composure. But his gaze fell upon her rosy and tender lips.
Sophia slightly raised her fresh and tender lips, sweetly smiling and saying, "I wasn't talking about you helping me apply the medicine."
In her intoxicated state, her smile was particularly sweet. Remington looked at her again, but he didn't understand what she was thanking him for.
Sophia looked at him, somewhat infatuated.
Before she went to take a shower, she had seen him put the 15,000 dollars cash into her bag. He must have sincerely wanted her to take that 15,000 dollars and use it to pay the mortgage, to help alleviate some financial pressure for her.
He was willing to advance so much money for her, just after finding a job. It showed that he was a responsible man. Furthermore, he also agreed to her plan of opening a developer's shop to earn additional income.
And, he really was handsome, very handsome indeed. She, who had never been interested in good-looking men, actually took an extra glance at him today.
Did she hit the jackpot by marrying such a handsome man?
"Remington!" Perhaps because of the alcohol, her voice was very soft and gentle, enough to make Remington's bones melt.
"Yes," he restrained himself, responding to her seemingly calm and rational, "What do you want to say?"
"I just want to say thank you for marrying me, for not letting me be alone, and for always being there to discuss everything with me," she smiled at him with intoxication, leaning her head towards him, close to his face.
It seemed like she was going to kiss him, but she didn't. Her fragrant breath once again held his consciousness captive.
Seeing a man's gaze that seemed too burning towards herself, Sophia smiled mischievously. "Remington, are you sure we're just a fake couple? Your eyes seem to always be staring at me."
Remington's gaze was deep, "Do you know what you're saying?"
"Are you afraid to answer my question?" Sophia playfully asked.
Her smile was really too tempting, causing Remington to momentarily lose his composure.
But he was Remington. He was the one who, amidst various beauties, remained faithful and never had thoughts of dating or pursuing women. In the end, he still had some self-control.
Pinching his thigh, he regained his composure and promptly put a stop to a certain masculine desire in his mind.
However, Sophia still saw the lingering warmth in Remington's eyes.
Playfully, she asked him, "Remington, do you perhaps have some feelings for me?"
How could he possibly have feelings for her?
At most, he just didn't dislike her.
That was not love, at all.
"You really are handsome, very handsome!" Sophia continued, "Any woman would definitely want to be intimate with you. I think I'm no exception, but..." Her tone suddenly changed, and she smiled again, "My opinion is the same as yours. I can't sleep with a man who has no emotional connection with me."
"So, I would appreciate it if you don't look at me with those burning eyes in the future, otherwise I might mistakenly think you've fallen for me."
Perhaps with a hint of petulance, he coldly said, "Are you being a bit delusional?"
"Am I being delusional?" Sophia thought he was being too petty.
She didn't bother arguing with him.
She shrugged her shoulders. Remington flatly said, "Well, let's just say I was being overly sentimental." Hearing him say that, she felt a little sad. But she quickly adjusted her emotions.
It was a good thing that Remington didn't develop feelings for her, so she wouldn't have any psychological pressure. She no longer felt angry at him for saying he was being overly sentimental. But Remington sat there with a cold expression, as if someone had touched a sensitive nerve.
"I'm going to brush my teeth." Sophia got up and left, leaving Remington sitting there, with his heart still pounding in his chest, feeling very unsettled in his seat.
That night, Remington was restless and couldn't fall asleep for a long time. Throughout the night, he pondered the same question. It wasn't until the next morning when Sophia dragged him to the breakfast stall downstairs and watched her eat her noodles quickly because she was in a hurry, that he seemed to have found the right answer.
How could he possibly like Sophia?? Impossible!
He and Sophia were simply not from the same world. Even though she was indeed different from other women, it wouldn't make him like her. With this thought, the restlessness and unease seemed to have dissipated.
But when he arrived at the 89th floor CEO office of the Waverley Mansion and picked up the various reports Dylan had already prepared, ready to go through them as efficiently as possible in the shortest amount of time, his mind was somewhat uneasy.
It was as if he had forgotten to do something important. He instinctively took out his phone and sent a message to Sophia...
“Sophia, have you arrived at the company?”
He quickly retracted it and changed it to, “Sophia, have you arrived at the company safely?”
After a second thought, if she replied to him, it would mean she had arrived safely. The word "safely" seemed to imply that he was too concerned about Sophia. Remington immediately retracted it again and changed it back to the previous message “Have you arrived at the company?”
Sophia hadn't replied all this time. In fact, she had already arrived at the company because her place was close to the office in Shantytown, and it only took her less than ten minutes to ride her electric bike.
But after she arrived, she rode her electric bike out again to run errands, so she didn't see Remington's message.
For several minutes, Remington didn't receive a reply from her.
In theory, she should have arrived early, so why hadn't she replied? Afraid that it wasn't safe for her to ride her electric bike, Remington hesitated to call her and could only wait patiently.
As a result, the reports that usually took only a few minutes to go through, took much longer. A few minutes passed, and he still hadn't moved. When Dylan came to get his approval, he saw that he hadn't signed and couldn't help but be a little puzzled.
This man seems somewhat distracted today!
"Remington, you still haven't done anything with these documents?" Dylan tapped on his desk.
He put down his phone and looked up. "I'll sign them in a bit and call you. You can leave first."
Dylan saw him put down his phone, and before the screen locked, it seemed to be on a chat dialogue with someone.
But Dylan didn't see it clearly.
Could he be chatting with his wife?
"Why are you lost in thought? Are you thinking about your wife?" Dylan teased.
"Don't you have anything to do?" Remington retorted.
"Hit the nail on the head, didn't I?" Dylan continued.
"I don't have time to argue with you. Go back where you came from," Remington dismissed him.
Dylan knew Remington was stubborn, and it wouldn't be good to pry further, so he reminded him once again, "Hurry up, take a look and sign quickly. I'm waiting to use them."
With a furrowed brow, Remington couldn't help but call Sophia to make sure she arrived safely at the company after Dylan left.
Sophia was waiting at a traffic light, riding an electric bicycle. Usually caught up with work, she would even answer calls while riding.
So she answered.
Hearing the noisy traffic in the background, Remington furrowed his brows. "Are you riding your bike?"
"Yeah, I'm just waiting at the traffic light. What's up?" Sophia asked.
The bustling traffic and honking made Remington frown. Wasn't it unsafe to take calls on the busy road? Not wanting to distract her, he didn't say much. "Call me back when you arrive."
When Sophia arrived at her destination, she completely forgot to call Remington back.
She was busy at the Industrial and Commercial Bureau.
Remington, in the CEO office on the 89th floor of Waverley Mansion, waited patiently.
Half an hour went by.
