Chapter 27 Finally Admitting?
Lilly, exhausted and tired, silently wiped away her tears as she followed behind. She really couldn't understand.
Why did she get married in the first place? She really must have lost her mind.
After getting in the Uber, Sophia noticed that Lilly's eyelashes were wet and asked worriedly, "Lilly, were you crying just now?"
Pretending to be strong in front of the children, Lilly said, "No, I wasn't."
Mia also saw the moisture in her mother's eyes and quickly said, "Mom, I'm sorry. It's all my fault for making you take me to the hospital so late at night. Thank you for your hard work."
Mia had always been sensible, and her thoughtfulness was touching. With a daughter like her, Lilly felt that even though her marriage was a failure, it was still worth it.
"Silly baby." Lilly touched her head. Stroking Mia's head, "It's only natural for a mother to take care of you, and it's not at all difficult."
As the car passed by the cinema, Mia happened to see Connor's car, "Mom, is that dad's car?"
Lilly and Sophia looked over together. Indeed, it was Connor's car.
There was another person in his car, but due to the angle, it was unclear whether it was a man or a woman.
But one thing was certain, he had definitely just come out of the cinema after watching a movie. Mia didn't dare to say it, but the person who had just gotten into her father's car was a very young girl, probably around twenty years old.
After Sophia dropped off Lilly at home, she had no intention of leaving.
"Lilly, let me ask Connor later who he went to see the midnight movie with."
Her own child was sick with a high fever to the point of exhaustion, unable to reach anyone on the phone, and yet went to watch a movie with someone else.
What a jerk!
But Lilly lowered her voice and persuaded, "Sophia, don't worry about this. I'll talk to Connor myself. I don't want to argue and let the kids see us fighting. Mia is older now, and every time she hears her dad and me argue, she feels very insecure."
"You're not going to choose to just keep silent again, are you?" Sophia couldn't hold back her anger.
"Sophia, do you think I'm pretty pathetic, always just putting up with everything?" Lilly asked bitterly. "Sophia, it's so late, you should go back first. I'll handle this matter myself, so don't worry."
Although she was very worried, Sophia was helpless.
There were some things she really couldn't control or do anything about.
After Sophia left, Lilly put the two children to sleep. Connor arrived home at half past two in the middle of the night, and when he saw his wife Lilly sitting in the living room with a stern face, his good mood from earlier vanished in an instant.
Why aren't you sleeping in the middle of the night? What's wrong with you?" Connor snapped angrily.
Lilly raised her head and calmly and coldly asked, "Connor, where did you just go?"
"Didn't I tell you? I took mom and little sister to our eldest sister's house and had a late-night snack, so I came back late."
Ha! Lilly laughed coldly.
Unable to hold back, she asked, "But I saw your car coming out of the cinema, and there was a person in the car. Did you go watch a movie with someone else?"
"Oh, Lilly, are you spying on me?" Connor not only showed no remorse or guilt, but instead felt justified and righteous.
Connor's unapologetic attitude made Lilly feel like her heart was being clawed at.
She was full of grievances and pain, "Do you think I have the time to spy on you?"
If it weren't for taking her daughter to the emergency room in the middle of the night, she wouldn't have caught Connor with someone else.
Connor questioned confidently, 'How did you know I went to watch a movie with someone?'
"Finally admitting, huh?" Lilly expressed extreme disappointment.
Connor was taken aback for a moment, but quickly regained his confidence, "What's wrong with watching a movie? Can't I relax a little?"
"Who goes out in the middle of the night to watch a midnight show with someone?"
"Lilly, are you ever satisfied? Watching a movie is not the same as cheating on you. Don't judge me as if I've done something wrong," Connor became increasingly confident in his tone.
She glared at him with hatred. Connor looked at her exasperatedly.
"Lilly, look at you now, full of bitterness. Who do you think you are showing this bitter melon face to? What do I owe you? I work hard outside, I don't let you suffer in the sun, I don't let you get wet. I let you comfortably be a full-time housewife, which many women can't even dream of. What else are you dissatisfied with?"
At this moment, Mia, who heard the argument, weakly walked into the living room. She looked at both Connor and Lilly, who were very agitated, and her little face was filled with fear and worry.
"Daddy, mommy, are you fighting again?"
Lilly, with a pained expression, immediately forced a smile and walked up to her daughter, patting her on the head.
"No, daddy and mommy are just discussing something. We disturbed you while you were sleeping, mommy apologizes."
Seeing her daughter standing barefoot on the cold floor, Lilly quickly lifted her back onto the bed in the room.
She rubbed her daughter's tiny feet, "Your high fever just subsided. How can you not wear shoes? Lie down and rest, you need to sleep more when you have a cold to get better."
Connor also followed inside. Although Connor doesn't usually spend much time with his two children, he still loves them very much.
He just thinks that he can be lazy because he has a wife and mother taking care of the kids.
But when the children get sick, Connor also becomes worried. "What's wrong with Mia?"
If it wasn't in front of Mia, Lilly wouldn't pay any attention to Connor. She didn't want her daughter to see adults fighting.
She tried hard to suppress the heart-wrenching pain and briefly informed Connor about Mia's high fever and hospital visit.
Connor hurriedly poured a cup of warm water for Mia, “Mia, when you have a fever, you should drink more warm water. After you finish drinking, go to sleep. Be a good girl.”
Mia looked at Connor eagerly, “Daddy, please don't fight with mommy, okay? Mommy has to work and take care of me and my little brother. It's very hard for her.”
"Daddy didn't fight with mommy," Connor patted Mia's head. "Be good, drink the water."
After Mia finished her drink, Connor and Lilly walked out together.
Connor glanced at Lilly, "Don't go to work on Monday."
"Why do you think you can stop me from going to work?" Lilly asked with a sense of injustice.
Connor confidently replied, "If it weren't for you insisting on going to work and not taking care of the child, Mia wouldn't have gotten sick and had a high fever."
"Connor, are you being reasonable? How can you blame me for the child's illness?" Lilly was once again provoked.
What kind of ridiculous thinking is this? Lilly was so angry that she almost spat blood.
She was afraid that if she got too worked up, she wouldn't be able to control herself and would end up arguing with Connor and waking up Mia, so she didn't say anything more.
Trying to reason with such an absurd person is like playing the lute to a cow. That night, she and Connor slept in separate rooms again.
Lying in bed alone, Lilly was full of distress.
She wondered, how did her marriage end up like this? What should she do?
What should she do?
When Sophia returned from Lilly's, it was already 2:40 in the morning. Charles hadn't fallen asleep yet.
Seeing her return, he quickly turned on the light, "Sophia, you're finally back."
"Dad, why haven't you gone to sleep?" Sophia didn't intend to turn on the light and was planning to quietly go back to her room, but she didn't expect Charles to still be awake.
Charles asked with concern, "Sophia, how is your friend's child doing? Is he better now?"
"The fever has gone down, but, ... Lilly's situation is quite complicated. I'll talk to you about it another day. Dad, you should go to sleep now. I'm sorry for waking you up so late."
The sound of running water came from the bathroom.
Sophia asked, "Dad, is Remington taking a shower?"
"He just came back," Charles said.
"Back so late?" Sophia frowned, "Did he work overtime until this late?"
