Chapter 31 The Villain Has No Rules

Sophia instantly became infuriated. She used to be blind to associate herself with scum like Connor, someone who looks down on others. She really wanted to punch Connor and send him to the heavens.

Without mincing words, she retorted, "Connor, so in your eyes, anyone who works as a security guard is just a watchdog?"

"I remember there was a time when you couldn't find a job while you were dating Lilly, and you considered applying for a position as a security guard."

"So back then, you wanted to be a watch dog?"

Connor's face turned pale with anger. "You're the dog."

"Weren't you the one who called security guards watch dogs?"

She showed no weakness, leaving Connor both frustrated and speechless.

Then, she held Remington's arm and stood tall, facing Connor, saying, "Connor, every occupation should be respected."

"If my husband really had to resort to being a security guard, I wouldn't find it embarrassing at all."

"But sorry, my husband, despite the failure of his business, is a skilled individual. He found a job as an IT programmer and earns over ten thousand a month."

"IT professionals are highly proficient in English and computer languages."

"If people with such talent were all considered simple-minded with strong physique, I suppose someone like you, who is weak in both English and computer skills, would be labeled as a fool."

No matter how much Connor mocked Remington, it didn't faze him. He remained calm and focused on Sophia.

When Sophia said the words "my husband," Remington suddenly realized that he had truly become Sophia's husband.

In less than half a month, Sophia had changed many of his thoughts and broken many of his principles.

This woman, who always protected his dignity, seemed quite adorable.

After dealing with Connor, Sophia turned her head and looked at Remington.

She wanted to comfort him, afraid that he would feel embarrassed or upset.

However, why did Remington have a curious look in his eyes as he assessed her?

"Are you okay?" Sophia asked.

Instead of answering, Remington countered, "I didn't expect that in your eyes, I would still be considered talented."

If it were any other girl who had encountered someone like him, who promised a car, a house, money in the bank, and a company before marriage but then announced bankruptcy and had no place to live immediately after the wedding, they would definitely beat him to death.

Sophia, however, was different. Not only did she not dislike him, but she even thought he was talented? She had a very positive outlook on people and things. This is why Remington admired her.

"Alright," Sophia let go of his arm, "I'll praise you for a moment, but don't get cocky. Go take the subway and don't be late for work." Remington smiled, "Yes, ma'am!" Sophia watched Remington enter the subway station.

Connor, watching from the sidelines, became insanely jealous.

What did Sophia see in this poor guy Remington? If Sophia became his lover, he could buy her all sorts of bags, high-end cosmetics, and even divorce Lilly for her. What did this poor guy Remington have that he didn't?

After watching Remington leave, Sophia turned around and saw Connor staring angrily at her, distortions on his face. She knew he definitely had malicious intent. Not agreeing to be his lover, he was probably resentful. This kind of man was truly dangerous. But they still had to run the same company together, just thinking about it was annoying!

When she arrived at the company, Sophia still hadn't seen Lilly. It was Monday and Lilly should have come to work, but she hadn't seen her until after ten o'clock. She called Lilly, feeling worried, "Lilly, is Mia still sick? Or are you sick? Why haven't I seen you at work today?" On the other end, there was Noah's crying, a baby's voice. "Baby, don't cry. Baby's hungry, Mommy will feed you milk." "Don't cry, don't cry." Lilly let Noah suck on the bottle, and only then did the crying stop.

She then told Sophia the situation. "Mia's fever is gone, I sent her to school in the morning. Connor won't let me go to work, he blames me for not taking care of the child, but the child got sick because of him." "What a despicable man. Why doesn't he say that he also didn't take care of the child?" Sophia became furious.

Lilly helplessly said, "There's nothing I can do. It seems like he discussed it with his mother, his mother said she had a backache and intentionally stayed in bed, not taking care of the child for me." "I think she's just pretending." Sophia was extremely angered. "When she's dancing and playing mahjong in the square, why doesn't she complain about her backache, but when she's taking care of the child, suddenly her back hurts?"

"Oh my." Lilly sighed helplessly, "I definitely can't go to work for this shift unless I find a reliable nanny." "Lilly, don't sigh. I heard that when you're in a bad mood while breastfeeding, the quality of the milk is not good." "I know, I also want to be in a good mood, but..." But her situation was just too difficult.

Taking care of the children and managing the household at home, Connor would say she lacked ambition, resembling an old housewife. And when she went to work to earn money, Connor would complain that she wasn't taking care of the children. She had to find a way to balance everything.

And then, she blames her for not taking care of the family. No matter what she does, it's all her fault. Married to such a man, how could she possibly have a good mood?
But in order for the child to have good milk, Lilly couldn't afford to be so depressed. She forced herself to adjust her mindset.

"Sophia, don't worry about me. Just find a reliable nanny, everything will be fine."

"I'll ask my father-in-law about the nanny situation, see if there are any relatives in the countryside who want to come to the city to work and earn money. People in the countryside are generally honest and reliable."

"Sophia, thank you for the trouble."
"Don't give me these polite words."
"Sophia, I'll talk to you later, my mother-in-law is calling me."
The call was abruptly ended.

Sophia thought, Lilly's pretending-to-be-sick mother-in-law, who knows what she's thinking, wanting to torment Lilly.
On the other end.
Lilly walked to Agnes' room while nursing the child.

"Mom, what do you need?"
Agnes lay in bed, "Oh, I can't get up anymore. I want a sip of water, Lilly, bring me some water."
The pretending-to-be-sick old lady, not helping her with the child was one thing, but now she wanted her to serve her.

"Mom, do you really have back pain?" Lilly was very angry in her heart.
Agnes immediately got angry, "What are you saying? Can I pretend to be sick? If my back hurts, it hurts. What, you're not even willing to bring me a glass of water? Do you even know how a daughter-in-law should behave? This is just back pain, if I really had a serious illness, would you curse me to die early?"
"Do I seem so malicious to you?"

Turning the blame around, seems to be a common trait of Agnes and Connor.
Lilly was filled with anger by their words.
"Don't I? I have high uric acid, back pain, leg pain, the doctor has given proof. But you doubt that I'm pretending to be sick?"
Lilly suppressed her anger and poured a glass of water for Agnes.

If it's not high uric acid, back pain, leg pain, and pretending to be sick, she won't help her with the child anymore, right?
Well, she has a way to deal with Agnes.
In the afternoon, Lilly deliberately went to the seafood market and bought a table full of seafood.

During dinner, Connor came back home and the whole family sat at the table.
"Why are there so many seafood dishes today?" Connor asked.
Lilly restrained her anger and deliberately said, "Honey, you love eating seafood the most. You've been talking about it for a long time since you last had seafood. I specifically bought it for you."

Connor was a filial son, he picked up a crab first and was about to pass it to Agnes.
Agnes also usually loved eating seafood, she reached out her chopsticks to grab the crab that her son was about to pass, but Lilly intercepted it with her own chopsticks.

"Mom," Lilly dutifully said, "you can't eat crabs today. Your uric acid is high and you have back and leg pain. If you eat crabs, it will make the pain worse, and you might even have to go to the hospital."
Agnes watched helplessly as the delicious crab was taken away, but dare not touch her chopsticks again, "I..."
