Chapter 26 Scumbag!
Looking at the layers of beef brisket soup and braised beef in the thermal lunchbox, Remington sent a message to Charles, "Did you slaughter the Sudanese bull at home?"
Charles finished dealing with a customer who had asked about the price but didn't make a purchase and replied, "Yes, I slaughtered it specifically. Please give me something that can help my daughter-in-law improve her health.”
Remington replied with a "You're awesome" emoticon.
A Sudanese bull worth twenty million, we've been raising it for almost three years, and now it's time to slaughter it. The uncles and relatives who have a close relationship with Charles begged him for a long time to let them slaughter the bull together and taste it.
But he has always been very stingy and refused to slaughter it no matter what.
In order to improve the health of my daughter-in-law, it's time to slaughter it.
Charles replied, "What's wrong with slaughtering it to improve the health of my daughter-in-law?"
Remington replied, "It's fine, but if your daughter-in-law knows that the bull she's eating is worth over twenty million, she probably wouldn't dare to eat it."
Charles responded, "I bought another batch of cows, sheep, chickens, ducks, and fish for the workers to raise at home. But we don't have enough workers, so I specifically hired ten more. You and Sophia should hurry up, don't wait until all these cows and sheep can be slaughtered and eaten, but Sophia still hasn't gotten pregnant."
Remington asked, "How much did it cost you to raise all of these?"
Charles replied, "Not much, just a few tens of millions, it's pocket change."
Remington lacked words.
Charles texted, "Hold on, Remington. Something's not right with you."
Remington replied, "I never said I disagreed with you raising them, so what's wrong with me?"
Charles asked, "I'm not talking about whether you disagree with raising them or not. I'm saying that I mentioned Sophia getting pregnant, and you didn't react negatively?"
The other day, when he mentioned Sophia being pregnant, Remington was quite disgusted. Today is unusual. Father and son were several meters apart, but they were privately chatting via messages.
Charles intentionally turned his head to look at Remington, who was sitting next to Sophia, close to her.
Charles smiled meaningfully, lowered his head, and sent another message, “Are you starting to like Sophia more and more?”
Remington replied, “You're thinking too much.”
When he glanced at Sophia, she was eating as usual, but faster than usual, obviously in a hurry. This time, he didn't think Sophia's eating was too ungraceful. Without realizing it, his gaze towards her softened and deepened. But when she looked up, he guiltily turned his gaze away.
All of this was seen by Charles.
In addition to a satisfied smile, Charles sent another message to Remington, “You're just being stubborn.”
Remington felt annoyed after reading the message.
What is he doing now?
Mr. Waverley III, with nearly forty thousand employees under his command, is always busy and can never finish his work. But now he's here with Sophia, like an ordinary developer, in this noisy market?
He originally agreed to live together with Sophia, but now he's become an obedient husband, doing whatever she says.
Remington finally understands why he feels so irritated. He doesn't like this kind of situation.
The feeling of being led by the nose. He took his phone and stood up.
"You only ate a little, and now you're not eating?" Sophia ate quickly, and after finishing, she tidied up the dishes and chopsticks.
He coldly said, "The company asked me to work overtime, so I'm heading back."
Watching Remington walk away without looking back, Charles walked over and asked, "Sophia, why did Remington leave?"
Sophia said, "He said the company notified him to work overtime. In the IT industry, it's probably like this. They say work overtime, very busy."
Charles smiled meaningfully, "I think he's not going to work overtime, but rather annoyed because I struck a nerve."
"What could Remington be worried about?" Sophia asked curiously.
Charles didn't mention Remington's worries. He smiled mysteriously, "Don't worry, it won't be long before you find out."
Today is Sophia's first day of setting up a stall. She originally wanted to stay open until around eleven or twelve o'clock at night before closing.
At eleven o'clock, Lilly called her and said that Mia had a high fever and no one was at home, so she asked Sophia to come and help. Sophia hurriedly rode her electric bike and rushed over.
Mia's forehead was indeed burning, terrifyingly hot.
Sophia quickly called for a taxi and brought the child with Lilly to the hospital.
In the car, Lilly kept urging the driver, "Brother, can you please drive faster? My daughter's fever is going through the roof."
"We can't speed even if we go faster. There’s a speed limit here."
Lilly was almost going mad with worry.
Her child was her pride and joy, and whenever her child had even the slightest illness, it felt like a matter of life and death for her. Thinking that if the fever continued to rise, there was a high possibility of developing pneumonia or something, Lilly was on the verge of tears.
After comforting Lilly for a while, Sophia asked, "Lilly, why is there no one at your home? Where are your mother-in-law, sisters, and Connor?"
Mentioning this family, Lilly felt frustrated. "My mother-in-law said she's tired from taking care of the child from Monday to Friday, so she wants to rest on Saturdays and Sundays and went to play at my elder sister-in-law's place with my sisters."
Normally, she couldn't say she was tired from taking care of the child. Whenever she did, Agnes would sarcastically scold her, saying that no woman doesn't take care of her child and what's there to be tired about.
But when Agnes takes care of the child, either her back hurts or she has a headache, acting really delicate.
What made her sad was Connor, who didn't understand the hardship of working and having a job and said sarcastic remarks. He said that going out to work was her choice.
However, at this moment, Lilly didn't want to complain about anything. She just wanted Mia's fever to go down as soon as possible.
Mia was already big, and when the car arrived at the hospital, Lilly couldn't carry her, so she could only hold her on her back.
Carrying Mia, Lilly practically ran to the emergency room.
Both of them were busy and didn't have any free time.
During that time, Noah woke up and cried, probably looking for milk. But Sophia didn't have any milk to feed Noah, and couldn't calm him down. Lilly heard Noah crying and had to take care of Mia receiving intravenous fluid while feeding Noah in the infusion room.
Sophia, standing next to her, felt extremely heartbroken.
They say that a woman becomes strong when she becomes a mother. But those selfish men don't know that there is no such thing as being strong when it comes to being a mother. They are just trying to hold on. When Mia finished the IV, Noah fell back asleep in Lilly's arms.
Sophia wanted to help hold him, but Noah started crying as soon as he left his mother's embrace.
Sophia had to say, "Lilly, you hold Noah, I will carry Mia on my back."
"Are you able to carry her?"
"It's alright, I am strong."
Although Mia's fever had subsided, she was still very weak and on the verge of collapsing. But Mia was considerate, "It's okay, Aunt Sophia, I can walk by myself."
"Are you able to walk? You were almost exhausted from the fever just now. Let Aunt Sophia carry you up." Sophia crouched down.
Mia glanced at Lilly. Lilly looked at her weak state and nodded gently, "It's alright, let Aunt Sophia carry you, Aunt Sophia hasn't carried you in a long time."
Then, Mia crawled onto Sophia's back and Sophia began carrying her.
"It's true that Mia has grown heavier." Sophia said as she walked, "But it's still easy for Aunt Sophia to carry. After you recover from the cold, you should eat more meat. Mom says you don't like to eat meat, but that's not nutritious."
Mia and Sophia chatted for a while.
Then, Mia leaned against Sophia's back and sighed, "Aunt Sophia, you're really good to me. I wish my dad could carry me like you do."
Lilly held Noah and followed behind.
Listening to that, Lilly, she couldn't help but cry.
Yes, as Mia and Noah's father, Connor hadn't cared for the children as much as Sophia did. She felt more and more that although she had a husband, she was parenting as a widow. Besides the cuteness of these two children, her marriage had brought her nothing but negativity.
