Welcome to Remly

I wake in the morning and climb out of Amelia’s bed careful not to wake her and make my way to my room. I wash my face, braid my hair, and throw on a dress making quick business of the corset. I am getting pretty good at doing those myself. Someone knocks at my door and I walk over to answer it, swinging the door open and am greeted with a smiling face.

“Good Morning, Ambassador Niccola,” Pelleas greets me.

“Good Morning Pelleas.”

“I just wanted to let you know that we have planned a trip for today and tomorrow so please pack an overnight bag and I will give you more information at breakfast.” I light up and feel energized. A trip is just what I need to get my mind off of everything.

“Thank you, I will pack right away.” I tell him, Pelleas nods and walks away from my door towards Amelia’s. I shut the door back and run over to my wardrobe grabbing my satchel on the way. I throw in a light yellow dress and my night robe then grab my hairbrush and toothbrush, and an extra pair of stockings. I throw my satchel over my shoulder and practically run to breakfast excited to hear about where we are going.

I enter the dining hall and Luke is already seated next to Maeve and Elau. I stifle a sigh and join them.

“Good Morning, Nic.” Maeve smiles at me. I return the smiles and grab a plate filling it with fruit.

“Do you know where we are going?” I ask looking over at Elau.

“Remly” He replies and I feel a smile grow. Elau has told me many times about their vacation home in the city of Remly. The city sits by a large river and is a major port for the Elvish lands. I can't wait to see how the port runs. Those who have seen it brag of its efficiency.

“How exciting!” I giggle and take a bite of my breakfast, out of my peripheral vision I see Elau smile at me before going back to his breakfast. A few minutes later Amelia and Benjamin walk into the dining hall followed by Pelleas. They join us at the table and begin making plates.

“Good Morning Everyone, please eat quickly because carriages are already waiting outside the castle.” Pelleas tells us, “We will be visiting the city of Remly to show the Ambassadors our port and give you a chance to meet our very own Lord Albernath.” I skarf down my food and we rush over to the carriages and Amelia and I snag one for ourselves. Moments later the carriages departs, and I am practically bouncing out of my seat with excitement.

“You seem to be doing well this morning.” Amelia points out

“Much better, this is a perfect distraction. Elau has told me all about Remly. I can not wait to see it.”

“I can’t wait to actually have some meat to eat.” Amelia comments and I giggle. I forgot that Elves in Remly are known for eating seafood.

“I bet the fish is super fresh and I heard they actually go scalloping. I haven’t had scallops in years.” I say practically drooling. We arrive in practically no time and the carriages pull up to their “small” guest house, as Elau had described it. I would say it was at least 10 times larger than my home but maybe half the size of the castle.

Amelia throws her head out of the window and takes a deep breath in. “This doesn’t seem real.” The house sits past a large courtyard full of statues and impressive hedges trimmed into different animal shapes.

Behind the house the river flows by, only a couple hundred feet away. We climb out of our carriage and walk over to the front door where King Eloquen and Queen Iverna wait to greet us alongside a larger Elf.

“Welcome Ambassadors, I hope your journey was brief. Please allow me to introduce Lord Albernath. He will be taking you on a guided tour of the city.”

“Hello Ambassadors, It is an honor to have you here in Remly. Please take your time and put your stuff away. Then we will head off on the tour.” He waves us inside, but stops Maeve and Elauthin. “Oh, and Princess Maeve, Prince Elauthin, Congratulations on your engagement.” He says and Maeve giggles thanking him. We follow Pelleas to our assigned rooms, this time Amelia and I are sharing a room while Luke and Benjamin share as well. Our room is smaller but still larger than my one at home and there are two queen sized beds on either end. I throw my stuff down on my bed and adjust my braid, fixing any loose strands before following Amelia back out to meet Albernath for the tour.

We follow Albernath through the city: stopping at memorials, shopping at markets, eating at local fisheries, and finally he takes us to where all the real action happens. We end up at the port and get to watch as a large ship with black sails pulls in and a group of Orcs hop off with their papers in hand.

“Looks like we have a new shipment from Tartarean.”Albernath comments. Their papers are checked and cleared so they begin unloading barrels of spices and herbs from the Realm of Tartarean.

“Do you get shipments from Tartarean often?” I ask him and Elauthin glances at me which I read as a warning from asking too many questions about Tartarean.

“At least twice a week, we have been trading with them regularly for over 400 years.” He says, leading us away from the port. “ It has been a long day for all of you. Let me guide you back to the house, and then I will leave you till the morning.” We make our way back to the guest house where dinner is waiting. A feast of fruits, veggies, cheeses, and of course fresh seafood lay waiting in the dining room. We all take a seat and dig in eating quite literally eating like Kings and Queens.
