Chapter 143

Graysons POV:
“You should’ve told me right away!” I screamed as the man who was unconscious and bound in our cells woke up at my shouts.

“ he is my ex-husband's spy. I wanted to get the dirt out of him and I did, you have enough on your plate,” my mother ignored me and went over to the corner of the cells and the man squirmed away from her.

He moaned over his gag pleading at me with his eyes to get her back. Whatever she had done it was effective.

“Still keeping him in that house with those kids with dangers he could’ve taken them hostage,”

“Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha,” my mother giggled. “ please I know how to keep my prisoner secure,” she patted me on the arm.

“Mother this was dangerous and foolish. I don’t want you taking risks like this,” I attempted to reason but she brushed me off again.

“I told you. I took something off your plate. It’s fine. I don’t answer you anyways,” she looked me sternly in the eyes.

“He gave me the information on a bank account and I retrieved it just a little extra on your father plus if he’s low on funds, he’s less of a threat,” she handed over a file that showed his bank records out of the country.

“I still don’t want you doing something like this again,” I couldn’t deny her ability to get the truth out of this man and was slightly impressed.

“ That's cute, dear,” she pinched my cheek.

I walked out of the cells and up to my office, skimming over it, he truly was a greedy bastard who didn’t want to give up anything of his to the IRS.

It seems that about 70% of his worth was going under the radar. I don’t know how he was managing it. I’m sure a lot of black market deals and businesses, but I wanted to say most of it was run through this account.

“You can’t be mad at her for the rest of the day,” my wife cut through my thoughts by appearing at my side, our son in hand.

“She was reckless to do that,”

“Oh, so *you* are upset with your mother for being reckless,” I could tell in her tone she wasn’t impressed with the fact that I was being a little hypocritical.

“She’s older than I am,”

“Which means I believe in her experience. I wouldn’t put it past your mother to have a trick or two up her sleeve,”

“Still she shouldn’t be getting in the middle of this. It’s our fight.”

“This is her ex-husband. She knows him better than anyone, he may have signed you out as his opponent, but she’s got just as much fighting as any of us,” my wife handed me our son and took the documents from me.

“Woah, this is some hard-core tax evasion, impressive of your father to keep it up. I mean, he does have the resources and the connections,”

“We have it seized tip off the government?” I suggested but she shook her head.

“That won’t work like I said he has connections,” she reminded me.

“What do you have in mind?”

“ WikiLeaks. if it goes public, then the government doesn’t have a choice but to step in,”

I wasn’t an American so I didn’t know the ins and outs of their justice system, but it seemed that my wife was right, Men like my father always seem to slither out unscathed.

We decided to leak it to the press and get it out there more deliberately. There have been a few reporters throughout the years who wanted to get under my father’s skin. This one on the Washington Post always seems to be a bit more prickly so it was my pleasure to hand it over to him.

I headed off to the gym to blow off some steam, luckily these days Charlie was more than a willing sparring partner.

I wasn’t happy with my mother having that man in her basement and not telling me. It was unbelievable that she could have had such a dangerous man in her house, especially with the two children soon-to-be three she took in. I didn’t need another person to worry about why she couldn't keep herself out of this and stay safe. My wife was already in the thick of it no matter what I could do and my mother was not safe from the monster she had left behind.

I swung at him and he dodged out of my way kicking me in an attempt to get me to fall but I stood my ground. I spun and stepped up to him swinging at his head but he blocked and attempted to connect with my ribs but I blocked him.

We danced around each other for a minute both fighting different seamen’s as we tossed punches. I felt as his brother-in-law I should give him some advice but in the ways of women, I didn’t have the best track record.

I spun out of his way but he’d tricked me and slammed his fist into my gut and a knee into my head.

I was impressed with his strategy. I hit his side until he released me, he clasped his hands and slammed them into my back. I picked him up and slammed him into the wall he pushed off of it and tried to pin me but I took one of his feet out from under him.

In the end, it was a draw I had him pinned and he had me in a headlock. I suppose maybe he had more of the upper hand.

I walked out of the ring as Matt ran into the gym. “Grayson it’s Annette!” He shouted.

Me and Charles ran out of the training house and into the keep clinic. My wife sat there drenched in blood Elizebeth holding my son. My mind whirled with anger and desperation before it landed on the fact that she was here, she was safe, and now we needed to handle the how.

“What happened!” I demanded.

“A group of wolves army trained entered through the north side between the towers on the long run. They came for Annette it looked like an attempt to just shake her up but…” Elizabeth looked over at my wife who was being seen to by Simon.

“None of it’s hers,” Simon finished. “She has no lacerations, no bruises, no broken bones. I don’t think they even managed to touch her by her scans,”

“Seraphine took over before I even saw them,” Annette looked at our son. “All I remember was handing him over to you,” she told Elizabeth.

They had been in the gardens tending to the weeds and harvesting the early crops. I hadn’t even thought someone could get to her but my father had seemed to prove my doubts.

“Is Christian okay?” I asked but I could clearly tell as he sat placidly in Elizabeth’s arms he was unharmed he looked over at me and giggled.

“What should we do?” Matt turned to me he knew me well enough to know what I was thinking.

“Who was on post?” I asked.

“It’s not their fault,” Matt tried but I wouldn’t hear it. We may have her back but we can still lose her all the same.

I feared what this would do to my already uneasy wife. Her walls are up to everyone and now she’s been attacked. What would the beast inside her do now that it had the taste of blood?

“That’s not the only thing. It seems a few of them got to the grain stores not the main hold but the reserves,” Matt showed me the photos.

I smirked. It was two-pronged. He was coming for my pack, my wife’s safety. I should have seen this coming.

Our grains were burnt to a crisp. My wife attacked, and my son survived only due to my wife’s uncontrolled alpha blood. We had to overcome these things otherwise he’d win.
