CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN
LUCIAN
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I entered my room to change into something more suitable. I could still smell the fragrance of flowers on her, she must have been to the garden.
Well, it was hers. Since I had it created when I learned about her liking for flowers. I knew even the smallest things about her which made me wonder how that bastard had been in her life and I knew nothing of it.
With the terrible ache of the boner in my pants, I shut the door closed. A heavy sigh of frustration escaped my mouth, that would be taken care of. For now, urgent matters needed my attention. I hoped I would be able to concentrate with my wife only a few doors away.
It would be so easy to get there and she would be naked as I took her ass from behind.
I needed her now.
Fuck!
The ache in my groin became unbearable and my imaginations were only making matters worse.
A knock sounded and Devin appeared on the doorpost a few seconds later. He took a serious glance at me and asked.
"Something wrong?"
Except that I would rather be in bed with Brie than trying to figure out the spies that Vladimir had planted around me.
"Get your ass inside here!" I snapped. I still remembered the way Brie had been staring at him longer than necessary, with those wide crystal blue eyes.
Words would never be able to explain my irritation, and even though he was my right-hand man, I could have shot him dead right then.
I knew and trusted Devin well enough to know that he would die before he betrayed me. It had to do with the possessive and selfish beast that lurks inside of my blackened heart. Brie's eyes should only be for me!
I hadn't been able to guess what was on her mind back then, but I felt that she hadn't been lying to me either when she said she only found him familiar.
"You've to know that it isn't my fault and promise not to channel your irritation at me." He grunted under his breath.
My eyes narrowed deeply, so the bastard knew the reason I was furious.
I was still tempted to blow out his brains even though he was right.
He and I grew up together, his father and mine were long-time friends before their deaths.
We majorly bonded easily because we were kind of alike.
He was a cold-born killer just like I was. He understood me a little and never tried to dig into what he couldn't comprehend.
He handed the files over to me.
I watched Brie through the connected wires during the past few days, it hadn't skipped my notice that there was a worker whom she had been getting along with. I regret that I haven't been able to hear any of their conversations.
This matter was about Brie's safety, we haven't discovered who the spy was, and now, a particular person had been trying to get close to her.
The female worker could be innocent... Or she might as well have a motive behind it.
I've already told Devin to carry out another background check on her. There was nothing suspicious.
She grew up in an orphanage and had several casual jobs outside before she became employed in my mansion.
"She's clean, I don't think it's her. " Devin spoke. He also thought Anya couldn't be Vladimir's person.
I pinched the bridge of my nose, staring at the documents in full concentration. Indeed there was nothing doubtful about these files.
"Continue to keep an eye on her. I just have the feeling."
Ninety percent of the time, my instincts were always right.
"Wouldn't it be much better to interrogate her? There are several ways to make her confess the truth."
Devin was right, but just in case I was wrong about Anya, the enemies would become more cautious, it was better to do it discreetly.
During my last travel, someone had broken into my office after getting rid of the cameras, the blueprints of the A-12 had been stolen. The person must have somehow gotten my fingerprints because that was the only way the security door could have been opened.
I met Devin's stare, he was still waiting for my response.
"All we need is a good bait to lure the mouse out."
Whoever the spy was, even if they were more than one, we would find out soon enough.
I never expected that bastard Derek to be so strong-willed, I would give him that. But he would break, sooner or later. The strongest ones always turned out to be the ones with useful information.
Derek had been working for Vladimir Petrov under the guise of being Marcus' right hand.
He had stubbornly refused to say anything and was willing to die instead.
The fact that he was still protecting Vladimir's spies around us gave me a new thought.
Maybe Derek hadn't tried to betray his boss Vladimir by running away with Marcus' daughter, what if he had been leading Brie to Vladimir instead?
Brie trusted him and would go anywhere with him without having a doubt. She probably has no idea that he was her father's enemy who didn't try to elope with her because he loved her.
If she had gone with Derek, he would have handed her over to Vladimir, who would have used her as leverage against Marcus. Their plan would have been successful if I hadn't caught up with them at the right time.
Everything summed up.
That she would even think herself in love with him made my heart flare with anger.
I would give that bastard one more week, if he wouldn't give me the information I needed, I would kill him.
He would go to hell in the most agonizing of ways.
