CHAPTER SIXTEEN
DAMIEN
As I stared at my father and his mistress the only emotion I felt was rage, how dare he come here like everything was okay, like he didn't shatter my mother's heart or almost make the company go bankrupt.
"Damien, that's no way to talk to your grandfather, apologize this instant" my mother scolded, giving me a disappointed look. Fuck! I hate when she is mad at me but what did she expect me to do? Accept them with open arms, because that was never going to happen.
"I apologise grandfather I lost my temper, mother I'm also sorry for raising my voice, but he has no right to be here, none of them do" I said my fist tightening in anger on my laps.
"Why are you here Jack?" my grandfather asked, his face was devoid of emotions, it had been a while since my grandfather actually showed what he felt that was only when my grandmother was alive but after she died he became Apathetic but he seems to have a soft spot for my mother even if he doesn't show it because her father and my grandfather were great friends till he died years ago from the same cancer killing my mother.
So I was very sure the only reason why my grandfather did not disown his bastard son and cut him off was because of my mother, even after everything he did to her she still loves him and that made me mad at her.
"I'm sorry grandfather, he asked if he could come so we could celebrate my appointment into the company, I didn't know it would cause such an uproar" Daniel said, what a joke do they think I was going to fall for that shit, he didn't it on purpose to irked me and he was doing a good job because I was about to punch my father in the face with the way he was smiling at my mother who was doing her best not to look affected by is presence.
"Next time both of you do something like this at my back, I won't take it as well as I'm now, and Daniel I'm watching you very closely you can lose this position as fast as you got it, so stop playing smart it won't end well for you" my grandfather’s said his gaze moving from Daniel to Jack my father, "you may have your seat, the maids will prepare a table for you" Grandfather added signalling for the head maid to come over so he could give her instructions as to what to do about the two extra unwanted guest.
"Thank you father, it been a while, I hope you are doing well" Jack asked with a stupid grin on his face
"Yes Jack, I see you are still with that woman" my grandfather said, sending a quick glance at my father's mistress Dana and Daniel's mother.
"It's a pleasure to meet you again sir" Dana greeted but my grandfather ignored her turning to face Tamara who went silent taking I the situation that just unfolded.
"I apologise for the commotion Tamara, I hope my family hasn't lost all respect in your eyes" my grandfather said.
"No sir, I'm in no place to judge your family," Tamara said, giving my grandfather a small smile.
"Hmm" my grandfather said as he watched Tamara’s, who's attention was on my mother when Dana just had to speak up.
"Sarah, how are you today? You don't look too good. Are you sure you should be out of bed in the state you're in?" Dana asked my mother, this woman was really asking to be kicked out of this house.
"Not that it's any of your business Dana, I'm here to support my son, so please refrain from attacking me and behave like a grown adult" my mother said paying Dana no mind, even if she was sick, she still won't allow anyone to push her around.
"Sarah stop acting like a child, she just asked a question,no need to be hostile about it," Jack said fuelling my anger, if he says one more word I will punch him in the face whether I piss off my grandfather or not, I don't care, "you are making the environment depressing with you just being here or are just trying to get some sympathy" Jack added, when I sick of is bullshit and was about to react my grandfather signalled to the maids so dinner can be served which gave me time to calm down a bit, getting work up will just ruin everything I have planned and I won't let him ruin it.
"You have been staring for a while now, do you have a problem with me?" Tamara asked with a raised brow, I looked up to see that my father was staring at her like she had said.
"No, I'm just wondering who you are, are you Daniel's date" Jack said
"Sorry but he is not my type, I'm Damien's fiancée, I would say it's a pleasure to meet you but I would be lying" Tamara said while she stared at father and mistress with displeasure.
"You can't talk to my Jack like that, who do you think you are?" Dana said in anger.
"I wasn't talking to you, Dana and by the way you should be ashamed but from what I deduce you really don't care" Tamara said as she turned to face Dana, who looked furious which was satisfying for some reason.
"Father, are you going to allow this girl to talk to us like that, fiancée or not?" Jack asked his gaze moving between Tamara and my grandfather.
"Yes," my grandfather said, shocking me. My grandfather who never defended anyone ever since my grandmother died, was defending Tamara, a woman he just met.
"What!" Jack asked in surprise.
"You did disrespect Sarah, her fiancées mother, so why would she respect you? Respect is earned not given,'' grandfather said and before my father could say anything else the maids brought In the food and everyone dug into their meals and the room went silent.
"Tamara I hope you're enjoying meal, we didn't have time to prepare something adequate because weren't expecting you" my mother said and Tamara smiled at her, she looked quite carefree with my mother unlike when she is with me.
"You don't have to apologise, i should be the one apologising because we didn't inform you beforehand, Damien wanted to surprise you so I couldn’t do anything, dinner is lovely Miss Kingston" Tamara said causing my mother's face to brighten up, I like that she was happy even if we were lying to her, it give her something to continue living for.
"You are so kind dear, Damien is lucky to have you" My mother said
"I'm nothing compared to you, he should be lucky to have such a beautiful and strong woman as his mother"
"You are such a charmer, your mother must receive a lot of compliments from you" my mother said
"Mother" I said, causing her to look in my direction with a confused look on her face.
"My mother died when I was young, so I hardly remember her" Tamara said immediately my mum grabbed her hands giving her a comforting smile.
"I'm sorry dear, I didn't know"
"It's okay ma, it's not your fault, let's stop talking about such sad memories, Damien tells me your chemotherapy is going well,"
"Yes I'm so glad I'm doing better, I don't like being a burden to everyone"
"Don't ever-" Tamara was about to say something when Jack spoke up cutting her short
"So you know you're a burden to everyone" Jack said and I finally lost the little self control I had left.
