CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE
DAMIEN
"Damien!" My mother yelled in a panicked voice as my gaze moved to her, ignoring my father who was being dragged away shouting by the guards who were responsible for allowing him to escape their hold the first time, i expected to see her hurt with the way she called out to me but her worried gaze was fixed on something else. When I followed her line of sight, I saw Tamara rocking back and forth on her knees with her hands covering her ears as if to muffle the sounds emanating from the room. Confused by what I was observing, I tried to approach her, but was pushed to the side by a worried Alex and his buddies who had stepped in to help her.
I watched as he immediately wrapped his arms around her waist and lifted her into his arms. As he did, he cast a glance at the guys nearby who appeared to be just as anxious and afraid as he did, saying, "One of you should put your suit jacket on her face. It might help calm her down." He didn't ask anyone in particular as the person closest to him quickly removed his suit jacket and put it over Tamara's head.
He appeared to be about to flee the room based on the look on his face and his rigid posture, so I stepped in his path, demanding to know what the hell was going on.
What the fuck is going on with Alex, and why is she acting this way? And where are you taking her? I questioned with my brow lifted and rising tightness in my face, shoulders, and arm.
"Get out of my way, Kingston," Alex commanded, raising his voice as he looked at me with an irritated expression, he was really pushing his luck with the way he had been acting towards me.
I clenched my teeth and said, "Not until you explain to me what the hell is going on." His companions were now staring at me with deadly glares, and one of them approached me. I believe his name was Joe or something like that.
"Are you fucking blind or just plain stupid, can't you see she's having a panic attack, now get out of the way before I make you," he snarled, his lips tightening, his angry gaze fixed on me, did he think he could intimidate me?
And who the fuck did he think he was talking to? No one had ever dared to speak to me in all my twenty-nine years of life, and here was this kid standing toe to toe with me, he really doesn't know who he is dealing with because I didn't have to do much and his life would be over in a matter of seconds, deciding to let it go this time because i more important issues to attend to right now. I looked up to say something else, but Joe shoved me to the side stating true to his threat, allowing Alex to flee the room with his friends hot on his tail. Before Joe left, I heard him whisper, "Asshole." And I was sure he was referring to me.
I was already fuming with rage by the time they had left the room because I had been left with guests who demanded answers that I was unable to provide for what had just happened.
So I scanned the room for Thomas Sanders, that sly bastard and his pathetic family think they can embarrass me in front of my family, in front of the world, I would rather die than let that happen, I took menacing strides towards him hoping he had answers to what had just happened because if he didn't hell would break loose because I was already unhinged at his was.
"What exactly was that, Mr Sanders?" I questioned as my angry gaze shifted from Thomas to Katherine, their daughter, who was talking on the phone as if what had just happened was none of her business, but then she ended her call, looking up at me and batting her eyelashes before making a derogatory remark.
"I told you she was insane," Katherine mockingly laughed, adding to my frustration and anger. Is she unable to read the room? Is everything just a game to her? But what did I expect from her? She is, after all, a dumb bimbo just like the tabloids say so I turned to her holding my anger at bay
"Katherine, if you don't have anything else to say, I suggest you shut the fuck up," I said, my voice slightly raised, causing her to flinch, her previous smug expression replaced with fear, "Now, back to my previous question, what just happened Thomas, and I suggest you choose your answer carefully because I'm not in a forgiving mood."
"I-, dont-" Thomas attempted to respond, but he kept stumbling over his words like a bloody idiot. So I turned to face his wife, who appeared to be as terrified as her husband but tried to hide it by maintaining a neutral expression. "Mrs. Sanders, I'll give you an opportunity to save your family because it appears that your incompetent husband is unable to respond to my question."
"Because it hasn't happened before, we can't give you a satisfactory answer." Mrs Sanders responded, her hands fidgeting by her side, revealing her fear despite her controlled expression.
"So, if it hadn't happened before, how did Alex know what to do the moment it started?" My brow furrowed as I impatiently tapped my feet on the ground below me.
"We don't know," she said, causing me to stop tapping my feet on the ground and run my hands through my hair in frustration and anger due to her vague answers.
"What the fuck, do you then know?" I asked, then I heard my mother's voice calling out to me, she looked worried and my grandfather looked angry, but I couldn't tell who it was directed at me or my father.
"Damien, you may be smart in business and numbers, but you are quite dumb when it comes to dealing with situations like this; instead of standing here interrogating her family, you should have gone with them to see if your wife is okay." Mr grandfather expressed his disappointment, which was visible in his eyes.
"But-" I tried to argue, but my grandfather was not having it, so I turned to my mother for help, and she, too, bore the same look of disappointment as my grandfather.
"Your grandfather is right Damien; instead of focusing on your father and the scandal caused by his behavior, you should have followed after her brother and his friends, making sure she was okay before thinking about anything else."
"But he was causing a scene, what did you expect me to do, leave him to do as he pleases?" I asked, throwing my arms up in frustration, why were they talking like this?
"No but you should have left it to the guards, isn't that what you hired them to do?" my mother questioned not bothering to wait for my answer as she immediately turned to face the Sanders a small smile graced her tired face, "I apologise for my son's behavior, please forgive him, he just had the wrong priorities in mind"
"No need to apologise, Miss Kingston, his reaction is quite understandable due to what had taken place here today" Thomas answered so he was finally able to find his voice, what a coward?.
"We are family, call me Sarah," my mother said with a small smile before returning her gaze to me her smile gone, "When you have fixed this and found out if your wife is okay, you can reach out to us, but don't if you haven't done these two things."
My grandfather then spoke again his gaze on the Sanders, "We will be leaving now, it was nice to meet Tamara's family, I hope we can meet again under a more favorable condition," and then he motioned for the wedding planner, Mrs. Adams, to come over. He then gave her specific instructions to send the guest home and expressed his regret for the commotion.
After my grandfather and mother left, Thomas Sanders and his family took advantage of the opportunity of my absence to escort my family to their car to sneak away to avoid me asking them more questions. Unable to sit still, I joined the wedding planner to do as grandfather had instructed us to do and when the final guest had left, I went in search of Tamara and her saviours planning to give them a piece of my mind but I couldn't find them anywhere so I decided to ask the guard by the door and he told me they had left. What was I going to do now? I decided to return home and wait, knowing that she would eventually have to return home and I would be able to get my answers.
