Chapter 35 - A huge mistake!

Rebecca pulled out her mother’s diaries from their hiding place while explaining how she found the key and eventually came across the diaries. Each time Rebecca faltered, she would look towards Lena, who would give her a nod and she would carry on. Alaric turned whiter by the minute as he realized what they were telling him.

It sure as hell explained why Lena could be his mate. He was a half-breed! The mere thought of all he had done rushed to his mind and made him feel sick to his stomach and when he rushed to the bathroom, Lena told Rebecca to go to her room. She didn’t want the little one to see her brother wrenching at the mere thought that he had blood witch blood. Rebecca had been proud of it so far and if her brother didn’t accept it …

Only the goddess would know what might happen. Lena didn’t want to take any chances and she tried her best to assure Rebecca that everything would eventually be okay. Lena wasn’t so sure about her own words, but at the moment all she could do was hope and pray. When Alaric finally came out of the bathroom, he looked awful! He wasn’t just pale. He looked almost grey and Lena rushed over to help him to her bed.

As he lay down, he stared at the ceiling and she wanted to speak to him, but she didn’t know what to say. She could just imagine what a shock it must have been for him to find out, but it was clear that he had to know. He turned to his side and studied her for a moment before asking what the possibility was that he didn’t have the magical gene and she shrugged.

“I’ve never heard of a blood witch not having the gene.” She walked away from the bed trying to figure out what to say and then turned to look at him. “Have you ever been able to do anything out of the ordinary?” He rolled his eyes and she realized what she was asking. The man was a damn alpha werewolf, how much more out of the ordinary could you get?! “No, I meant something that wasn’t normal for a werewolf.” Lena sat down beside him and explained that she had been practicing with Rebecca to see if she had any natural magical talent.

Alaric shook his head. So far, his sister was the only one who showed strange signs of magic. Lena suggested that they start there. He should try to do magic the same way she was teaching Rebecca. It was the only way for them to find out. Since he hadn’t gone through the special blood ceremony when he came of age, it is very possible that his abilities were still dormant and the only way for them to be woken was with the blood of a blood witch.

He nodded, still looking pale when he got up and he told her that he needed some fresh air. She was on her way to help him when Max showed up. There were rogues near their northern border and they had been captured by the border patrol. Alaric kicked into alpha gear and he was off before Lena could warn him to take it easy. She sighed as she looked at the empty passage and then decided to let Rebecca know that her brother was okay and they had a plan.

“Rebecca, we have to keep this between the three of us for now. I don’t know how your pack will react once they find out.” Lena told the little one and Rebecca nodded, wanting to know if they could go and practice. She told Lena that Alaric would be away for a while and, since they had nothing else to do, Lena agreed.

She was so proud of Rebecca when the flower finally started to grow because of Rebecca’s spell, but it was a bittersweet moment. It was clear the little girl had magic and as soon as she came of age and received her gifts, she would be an official blood witch … A hybrid blood witch which would make her a target. Lena frowned at the mere thought. How could Rebecca and Alaric’s mother have been so damn foolish? Didn’t she care what she might be putting her children through?!

Lena frowned as she thought about it. Their mother would have known that her actions could bring about a war that would destroy either side … That her secret would eventually get out … Yet she still went ahead and did it!

“What’s wrong, Lena? Did I do something wrong?” Rebecca looked worried and Lena forced a smile onto her face as she told the little one that she was doing great but that she should make sure to keep her magic a secret. Rebecca wanted to jump right into the next spell, but Lena wanted her to keep practicing on the flowers. As long as she taught Rebecca only the easy spells, she couldn’t get into trouble.

LATER THAT EVENING, Lena was pacing in her room when Alaric returned and she heard him go right to his office next door to her room. She really had to talk to him. She needed to know what he was going to do now that he knew, but she didn’t want to overstep her boundaries. All research to break their bond had been completely put aside, since she couldn’t concentrate in any case.

She waited, listening to see if he was coming to her and she paced some more while she tried to convince herself that she could go to his office and speak to him. Turning on her heel, she was just about to open her door when he burst through and nearly walked right over her. In the process, they ended up on the floor with Lena firmly planted on his chest before she scrambled to her feet. After both apologized, they started talking at the same time and finally Alaric took a deep breath and told Lena to go first.

“I need to know what you are going to do.” Lena had no idea what would be best and was kind of hoping he had some answers for once, but he looked just as confused as she did. Maybe she hadn’t given him enough time to think or he was so busy with the rogues that he didn’t have time …

“I don’t know.” He sighed, pulling his fingers through his hair as his eyes drifted to her lips. The moment had become so intense and what was happening was so overwhelming that he lost control over his wolf for a split second and his wolf used that moment to close the gap between them and kiss Lena. It was all he had been thinking about doing since the moment he saw her for the first time.

Her lips were softer than he imagined as Alaric fought for control over his wolf. He pushed Lena away the moment he got back in control and he was stumped. Stunned into utter silence as she looked at him with the same confusion he was feeling. Love, hatred, and lust flashed through her eyes, reflecting on the turmoil going on inside him.

Lena felt the bolt of emotion strike her heart the moment he kissed her and she was so stunned by it that she didn’t stop him. When he broke away from her, pushing her away, she almost cried out. She suddenly wanted to be in his arms and as he stood there in front of her looking so vulnerable for the first time, she couldn’t help herself. She closed the gap between them, flung her arms around his neck and kissed him with everything she felt inside her.

He went rigid for a moment and then moaned as he pulled her tightly up against his warm chest. Their kiss grew hungrier as they tried to get as close to each other as possible, but their clothes were causing a barrier and neither could stand anymore. They pulled apart just enough to help each other strip. Driven by lust and hunger, Alaric lowered Lena onto the bed and he slipped in between her legs.

They were both panting and nobody was thinking straight as he slipped inside her and she cried out in pain. He stopped. His eyes widened as he realized what he had just done. As if someone had poured a bucket of ice water over his body, he lay there frozen, just staring at her while her mind rushed around trying to figure out what she had done.

They stared at each other for what felt like forever before he climbed off the bed and grabbed his clothes. He put them on in such a rush that he didn’t even button up his shirt before he left her room. Lena felt ashamed as she pulled her blanket over her naked body and cried herself to sleep.
