Chapter 69 - Blood of my blood.

The old woman looked at another old woman and they nodded.

“This wolf is blood of our blood.” The second old woman announced, as if she was telling everyone. The other witches turned around and walked away and Alaric still had no idea what that meant. “Come with us.” She looked at him before turning around and walking into one of the huts. It was as primitive inside as he thought it would be and they sat down, showing him where he had to sit.

“Tell me what happened.” The old woman frowned and he explained how he found out that Lena was his mate and everything they went through to be together. Then he explained how she did the death spell to protect them. He told them of the strange coma she was in and how she woke up and told him she had been in purgatory. That seemed to draw more attention than anything else.

“Alpha, you can’t be both in purgatory and still here. She would have had to die in order for her to …” The woman’s voice trailed off while she looked at one of the other women who quickly got up and rushed out of the hut. “We might be able to help you, but you will have to give us time. We will come to you.” She got up and showed Alaric out. He still had no idea if they were going to help him or not, but he had done what he could.

Alaric made his way back, but he felt as if they were on the verge of losing everything. The witches were his last hope and they looked as if they knew something, but they didn’t say anything that gave him hope that they could save her. Lena was both furious and relieved when they saw him coming through the thick brush of the forest.

He pulled Lena into his arms and breathed in her scent deeply. It felt as if he was on the verge of losing her for good. They had just walked into the pack house when the alarm rang through the pack, but this time it wasn’t an attack. The witches came through the brush of the forest and Alaric was stunned. There were nearly twice as many of them as the ones he saw before!

“We have come to help.” The one who seemed to be the leader shouted from the other side of the clearing. Alaric ordered the guards to let them through. This was really going to send ripples through the council, but he didn’t care. The council didn’t really care about people. He figured that much out. The council couldn’t be trusted. He was going to trust the people who referred to him as blood of their blood or whatever that meant. They gathered in the board room and the witches pulled out a very old looking book. The leader paged through it before stopping. When she did, she looked up.

“As we told you before, you can’t have a living body here and your soul in purgatory at the same time. It means that she didn’t die and that means that the hounds had no right to take her. They are only allowed to come for her when she is rightfully in purgatory and her body is dead. That is the rule.” She said as if it meant that was that, but that didn’t stop the hounds. Alaric couldn’t imagine it being that easy.

“Have you found the demon who made the deal yet?” The old woman asked, and Alaric felt confused.

“How did you?” Alaric looked confused.

“We know a lot more than you realize. How else did you think we hid ourselves so well when you came after us? When you came after your own blood?” The old woman lost her temper for the first time.

“You are one to talk!” Lena spoke up for the first time. “You came after your own!” She screamed and it instantly shut the old woman up. She took a moment before breathing in deeply and sitting down again.

“We know who the demon is. We can help you.” She pointed at the other chairs and everyone sat down while the old woman explained the spell. “We have all agreed that the time has come to give up our power. To give up the one thing we’ve all feared all our lives.” They had come to an agreement. The old woman was going to face the demon.

She would do the spell and she would also offer him something in return for his jackpot of souls. She was offering him their coven. In its entirety. Once they were all gone, the only blood witches left in the world would be Alaric, Lena, Rebecca, Ben, and any other children they might have. Once the demon accepted the deal, they would no longer be able to do any blood magic, but they wouldn’t lose all their magic.

The council would never be able to turn on them again, and their pack would finally be able to live in peace. Their children could live in peace without hell hounds coming after them! Lena looked at the old woman. Something was off.

“Why would you all give up your lives and go to hell for us?” Lena frowned. She didn’t want to lose their opportunity at peace, but she also couldn’t understand why they would all give up their lives. It made no sense and she wanted things to make sense for once! The old woman sighed and nodded and her people left. When they were gone, she looked at Lena.

“We are the reason all this happened. We were the ones who started the war to begin with. If we didn’t go to the council …” She sighed deeply. “We were betrayed by your mother, Alpha. Nobody betrayed us and got away with it. Now we want to make it right. We never thought the council would declare an all-out war on our kind. We were mistaken.” She sighed. “We underestimated their hatred for our kind. We should have gone to the demon a long time ago and put a stop to this.”

“What? How?” Lena frowned, feeling furious.

“The original blood witch is from our blood line.” The old woman looked ashamed.
