Chapter 36 - Their little secret ...
ALARIC PACED IN HIS OFFICE, swearing at himself for what he had done. Everything inside him, including his wolf, was shouting for him to go back to Lena, but he just couldn’t bring himself to do it. She probably hated him for what he had done and then he ran away!
He would never be able to look her in the eye again after that! If only he hadn’t been such a damn coward! If only he stayed and at least checked to make sure she was okay! But noooo! He had to turn damn tail and run! He stopped mid-stepped and took a deep breath. He had to check on her. He couldn’t just leave her like that.
Turning on his heel, he walked all the way to her door and then stopped. Turning around to walk back to his office, he realized he couldn’t just leave things like that and he barged into her room. He could see from her shoulder that she hadn’t gotten dressed after he left, which made him feel even more like the damn louse that he was!
“Lena?” He wasn’t sure if he wanted her to be asleep or awake. If she was awake, he could at least apologize and get it over with, but she didn’t move. He tweaked his ears a little and listened to her rhythmic breathing telling him that she was indeed asleep. Sighing, he turned to leave when he heard her breathing in deeply. As he turned around, her eyes flashed into the dark room. “Lena, I didn’t mean to wake you. I just … I wanted to say that I’m sorry.” He was going to leave it at that but then she sat upright.
She must have either forgotten that she was naked under the covers or she no longer cared, but none of that mattered the moment he looked into her incredibly sad eyes.
“You don’t have to apologize.” Her eyes flashed with pain and then it was gone. “I chose to be with you, but it is clear that you don’t want to be with me.”
LENA HAD MADE UP her mind while she was crying. She knew how she felt about him, but since he so very clearly didn’t want to be with her, she wasn’t going to allow him to do it again. She would show him what he threw away, but she wouldn’t allow him to ever touch her that intimately again!
“Was there anything else?” Lena tilted her head to one side, noting the clear confusion in his eyes. Poor little Alaric. As soon as a woman didn’t do what he wanted, he would get angry. If you did what he wanted, he ran away. She wondered if he even knew what he wanted.
“Uhm, no.” He sighed and whipped around, leaving her alone in her room yet again, or so she thought. This time when Alaric returned, there was something else burning in his eyes. Something she hadn’t seen before. He stormed over to her and pulled her out from underneath the covers. His hands slipped down her back as his eyes locked with hers. “I want you.” His words were exactly what her heart needed to hear as his lips crashed down on hers.
All her previous revelations were completely forgotten in an instant. She didn’t even swear at herself for her weakness. Alaric lowered her onto the bed and he quickly slipped in between her legs. Their kisses were filled with hunger as he slipped back inside her and her back arched to meet him. His arousal fit perfectly this time and Lena couldn’t help but gasp as he pulled out.
A deep moan escaped between his lips as he pushed back into her and at that moment, whether they wanted to or not, they became one. Everything that happened in the past was forgiven. Everything they said to each other was forgotten as they disappeared into a world where it was just the two of them and nothing and nobody else. No blood witch war. No parents that were killed. Just pure unadulterated love flowing between two people. They pushed each other to heights that neither of them expected and when they finally reached their climax they fell down on Lena’s bed completely out of breath.
The perfect bubble they were in burst and the uncomfortable silence changed everything again. Alaric didn’t know if he should cuddle her or if she would want him to leave and Lena wasn’t entirely sure if she could cuddle up to him or if he would want to do it again.
“Okay, this isn’t working.” He sighed as he stood up, picked her up out of the small bed. He pulled a blanket over her and carried her to his room.
“Alaric! What are you doing?” Lena rolled her eyes as she saw the amused look of the guards when they walked out of her room, but she didn’t want to say anything until they were alone.
“You are my mate. My pack seems to have accepted it and well, frankly, so have you, so you will be staying in my room from now on.” He put her down beside the bed and when he opened one of the doors in his room, she noted that he also had a bathroom of his own. He quickly explained where everything was and then returned to pull her into his arms.
“When exactly did I say I accepted you?” Lena tilted her head to one side feeling very confused and slightly overwhelmed. “And I can’t stay here. Rebecca is going to look for me in the morning and she is going to think I’ve run away again if she walks into my bedroom and I’m not there.” Lena pushed him away playfully, but he just pulled her closer and from the quick response of his arousal, she knew not to do that again!
“Oh, shut up and kiss me.” He grinned and as he pulled her closer, Lena felt her heart give in to him completely. She was his body, mind and soul after tonight. She would never be able to leave him and she would never allow anybody to harm him. She hated him for what he did to her parents and she would have to deal with those feelings someday, but for now, all she wanted was just to be in his arms.
LENA WOKE IN THE EARLY HOURS OF THE MORNING, to a snoring Alaric and she decided to go back to her own room. She really wanted to talk to Rebecca first before the little girl found her in his room like that.
Besides, in the light of the morning, things felt a lot different than they had done the night before. All the reasons why they shouldn’t be together came to mind and then there was the fact that Alaric was a half-blood witch. They had to find a way to deal with it before they jumped into anything permanent. Lena really didn’t want Rebecca to get her hopes up until she knew for sure how she felt about Alaric.
THE TWO GIRLS WERE SITTING in the library reading when Alaric appeared in the doorway. He leaned against the door frame looking awfully amused to see them together like that. He was a little disappointed to wake up and find Lena had gone, but he quickly figured out where she was and why. Appreciating that she took Rebecca’s feelings into account.
If only Lena knew how much Rebecca wanted them to be together, she wouldn’t have disappeared, but he wasn’t going to fuss about it. He wanted Lena to find her own way. He wanted her to be happy there. After causing her so much pain, all he wanted was for Lena to be happy. To find a home with them.
“So, I take it my little sister can do magic?” He sighed as he pushed away from the door frame and walked over to the desk where Rebecca showed him how she got a flower to bloom. This wasn’t the kind of magic he was expecting to see, and it was pretty amazing. Lena quickly explained that they had found the spell in one of the books in the library and she decided that Rebecca had to start small before she could move on to bigger spells.
Lena also explained the difference between blood magic and normal magic and that the book she gave Alaric earlier was one they used in blood magic. That was what made it so dangerous. Alaric had a couple of questions which she happily answered and each time he tried to touch her she would smile at him and quickly move away. Alaric had to hold his pose and not moan because he really wanted to respect her wishes and not let the whole world know what they had done the night before, but he was aching for her again.
“Will I see you tonight?” He whispered while Rebecca tried the new spell that Lena had given her and Lena nodded.
“Only if you leave now.” She smiled and Alaric gave Rebecca a quick kiss on the cheek before disappearing, making Lena laugh out loud.
