Chapter 68 - The witches in the mountain.

It was dangerous. Lena had lost time and nobody knew what had happened to her or how she got to the coven grounds, past their guards without anyone seeing her. Lena couldn’t think of a spell that could do something like that, so they weren’t sure exactly what happened. The focus of their research shifted from trying to find the demon to trying to figure out how this happened.

The only thing that stood in the forefront that it could have been was teleportation and that was just too ridiculous to even consider. There were no signs that anyone was ever able to do it. It was one of those things people speculated about but nobody could actually say that they had seen someone do it. It was too far-fetched.

Their beautiful lives had turned into a horror film in no time flat. Now they didn’t just have the hell hounds to worry about but also if Lena would disappear again. What if she did whatever it was that she did while they were being attacked? What if she placed herself right in the firing zone? Alaric knew that Lena would give herself up to save their family. She would give herself up to save their pack.

He couldn’t allow that! He couldn’t just stand by and watch her die in that horrible way! He had to find his mother’s old coven. He needed their help. He needed the blood witches. Alaric had a secret. There was a coven of blood witches who lived in the mountains and from what Rebecca found out when she was younger, it was their mother’s coven.

During the war, they tried to find them. They searched for them for weeks but there was no trace that they even existed. Now he needed them. He needed the other half of his family. Nobody could know that he was looking for them, so he found the file in his office and went through every piece of information they had on that coven.

He instructed Rebecca to keep an eye on Lena and Max had to keep an eye on Ben. Nobody knew where he was going when he sneaked out of the pack house and started to make his way through the forest. He shifted and darted off in the direction of the mountains. He knew Lena would be asking questions, so he didn’t have much time.

All he could do was hope that he found them before the hounds attacked again and before Lena decided to travel! He found the camp but it looked like nobody had been there in years. He knew these witches were really good, which meant they could be making it look as if they hadn’t been there, so he shifted into his human form and put on a pair of shorts before walking into the center of the small village.

“I am Alaric. Hybrid son of Elain. Your sister.” He took a deep breath and looked around but there was nothing. The wind was blowing through the leaves and the village was quiet. “I need your help. Please! I know you don’t owe me anything, but …” His voice waivered. Alaric sighed. He knew it was a long shot and he was beginning to think that it wasn’t even worth it! They aren’t here anymore! They hadn’t been there in a very long time. Who was to say that they were even still alive?!

“Please! The hell hounds are going to kill the woman I love!” He howled out and fell to the ground and tears streamed down his cheeks. At first there was nothing. Then the true village came into view. He was surrounded by women and they were a much larger group than he had ever imagined.

“Why have you come to us? We can’t stop the hell hounds.” An older woman stepped forward and she looked familiar, but Alaric couldn’t place her. He explained what was happening to Lena. Rambled it rather than anything else. They were his last hope. They had knowledge that neither Lena nor anyone in their pack or the council had.

This coven was almost as old as time. That much he knew from the research they did before the war. If anyone could save the love of his life, it was them. He didn’t care what the price was. He didn’t care. He just wanted Lena to be safe. He wanted his family to be safe.

“Please, I have nowhere else to go. I have no one else to ask.” Alaric felt defeated. He could feel they weren’t going to help him. They didn’t make a move to do or say anything. They just stood there looking at them.

“You people always come here and ask us to help. You want us to help save this one and that one. We always warn you that there will be a price, and every single time … You don’t care about the price!” The old woman stepped forward and spat as she spoke, but Alaric stood his ground. He was willing to do whatever they wanted! She was right, he didn’t care about the damn price of magic! “Then you turn around and try to kill us when that price comes knocking on your door! When the reality of what you asked is staring you right in the face! You declare war on our kind as if you were never the ones who asked us to do what you asked us to do!” She spat as she slowly started to walk around Alaric.

“Now we’ve opened your eyes to where we live, and you want us to take on hell. You want us to go into the pits of hell and save the woman you love?” The old woman hissed. Alaric swallowed the knot in his throat and nodded. He knew coming here was a one in a million chance. He didn’t even expect them to show themselves. It had to be a good sign, didn’t it?

“Please, I will pay whatever price you ask. Just help me save my family!”
