Aris Part 2

“Not everyone. Some people just have shitty endings.”
Leon, who seemed distracted behind the reception desk, looked up and reprimanded Dimitris for his language. “Shh! There are kids here!”
Dimitris ignored him. I continued, “Maybe it all depends on your perspective of the ending. As long as we’re alive, our story isn’t over yet.”
“And all stories end the same way. Everyone’s going to die in the end.”
He wanted to talk to me about death? With someone who had defied it twice and was now walking a tightrope trying to leap from one statistic to another?
He was also someone who challenged death, but in his case, it was intentional. Something I could never understand.
“Just because everyone’s ending is the same doesn’t mean you need to rush towards it. I’ve heard about your ‘work.’ I suppose it’s not really a secret to anyone, is it?”
“I’ll pass on the advice from a green juice enthusiast. Everyone chooses how they want to spend their time alive. I’m more into adrenaline. If you prefer bland diets and ballet classes for kids, that’s fine.”
There was a tone of attack in his voice, similar to when he confronted me in the college courtyard. I knew Dimitris Makris wasn’t the kindest of creatures, but he seemed to have a particular issue with me.
At that moment, Iris arrived, and Dimitris simply said “let’s go” to her before turning and leaving, followed by his sister. The little girl, however, was the complete opposite of her brother in terms of friendliness, waving goodbye to everyone.
