Epilogue - Four Years Later.

Skyla

I am so eager to get home after being away for a week for some interviews for my new book. I had missed my husband and my baby boy. I have never been away from Jake for more than a couple of hours in the three years since he was born. Jake was a pleasant little surprise for us. It would seem the night Brandon and I reconnected was around the same time I fell pregnant. Trying to plan a wedding while pregnant was an experience, but we managed.

I hated leaving him but knew he was safe with his daddy and Auntie Kelsey. Thankfully, I don’t need to leave him again any time soon. I have a book tour in a couple of months, but Brandon and Jake are coming with me because I will be away for six weeks, and there was no chance I was leaving them for that long. Kelsey will take care of the business while we are gone.

I pull into the driveway of our beautiful house, which Brandon bought for us a couple of years ago. It is perfect. It has everything we need in it and probably some things we don’t, but it is home. I don’t even park straight or grab my case because I am too eager to go inside. I rush inside.

“Brandon, Jake, I am home,” I call out.

I hear Jake let out a slight squeal of excitement. I smiled because it made my heart happy hearing it. It feels like I have been away longer than a week. I enter the living room.

“Mummy.” Jake grins.

He has a poster in his hand that says Welcome home, mummy. Brandon had put some balloons up and had the table set with my favourite snacks.

“My boys, I have missed you.” I gush.

Jake sprints towards me, and I scoop him up in my arms, hugging him tightly. He snuggles in, nuzzling his face in my neck.

“Missed you.” He whispers.

“Not as much as I missed you, my sweet boy.” I coo.

I love being a mum. It is my favourite thing in the entire world. Jake hugs me tighter. I have missed his hugs. Brandon and I video-called every day so I could see my boy, but it wasn’t the same.

I head over to my husband. I swear he gets more handsome with every passing year. The man is ageing like fine wine.

“Welcome home, sweetheart. I missed you.” He says and kisses me softly.

“It is good to be home, my love. I hated being away from you both. It felt like months rather than days.” I laugh.

“We are happy to have you back with us, beautiful.” He smiles, stealing another kiss.

“It has been a crazy week, and I am exhausted,” I reply honestly.

It has been non-stop. I haven’t had any time to myself in my time away. I couldn’t wait to get into my own bed tonight, next to my husband.

“Take a seat, angel. I will make us some coffee, and you can tell us all about your busy schedule, and we can update you on what we have been doing.” He suggests.

“Thank you.” I smile.

I take a seat on the sofa, Jake still clinging to me.

“Did you have fun with Daddy and Auntie Kelsey?” I ask, stroking his dark hair.

He is Brandon’s mini-me. My boy was going to break some hearts in his life.

He nods eagerly, “Auntie Kel took me to the zoo.”

“Wow, did you see all the animals?” I ask, meeting his excitement.

“Yes.” He answers.

“Aww, I am glad you had fun, bubba.” I smile and kiss the top of his head.

Brandon soon joins us on the sofa with coffee and juice for Jake. Jake took his juice cup and went onto the floor to play with his toys. I scoot over next to Brandon and rest my head on his shoulder. He slips his arm around me and kisses my forehead.

We caught up in everything that had been going on. His business is doing great here. I am so proud of him for all the hard work he put into it.

“I can’t wait to snuggle up in bed with you tonight,” I whisper, kissing his neck.

“Mmm, me too.” He agrees and squeezes my thigh.

The passion between us has never faded. We are still hot and heavy in the bedroom. I hope we don’t ever lose the passion, not only that but the love and bond too.

“I have missed getting naked with you,” I whisper.

He groans, “Yes, same. We can make up for it tonight.” He whispers back.

Brandon reaches down to kiss me one last time, and we focus on our son. He is happy on the floor, playing with his toys and colouring in.

“I think we should start trying for baby number once my book tour is over.”

I have been thinking about another baby a lot recently.

“Really?” Brandon asks, the excitement evident in his voice.

I know he has been desperate for another baby, but things have been so busy we decided to hold off for a while.

“Yes. I love being a mummy. I am sure Jake would love a little brother or sister.”

“I am sure he would. I would love for us to have a second baby, but only if you are sure?” he asks.

“I am certain. I am ready. I think we are ready.”

“Okay, then, after your book tour, we will start trying.” He gushes, his entire face lights up at the idea.

“Perfect. I can’t wait to let our little family grow.” I coo.

I have everything I have ever wanted, and baby number two would add to the happiness in our lives. Two is a good number. I don’t think I want any more, but I may change my mind. My first pregnancy was pretty bad, and so was my labour. Hopefully, it won’t be the same second time around. If not, maybe we could have another, but we will see how things go. Either way, I have all I need in life.

“You have given me everything I ever wanted and needed, Skyla.”

“And you have given me everything and more,” I reply.

I didn’t think I would ever get my happy ending, but I am delighted Brandon is the one who changed all that. I couldn’t imagine my life without him or our boy.
