Chapter 85 - Unexpected

***
Heather's POV:

I stared at a smiling Shirley in total confusion.

"This is not funny, Shirley. Why did you bring me this. And stop laughing."

She smiled.

"Sweetheart, I don't want to say or assume anything. But please, make a test."

I stared at her and goosebumps took over my skin.

"You think I'm pregnant?" I dared to ask.

"I didn't say anything. But are you?" she smirked.

My heartbeat increased.

"No!"

"What makes you say so?"

"Shirley, stop scaring me. I'm about to get angry. Please, take that thing and go away," I turned and backed her, holding myself.

"Don't be angry, Heather. It's wise for you to know in what condition you are. I'll leave. But I'll leave the test here. When you decide to do it, call me and tell me the result."

I turned to her in disbelief.

"Please, leave."

"Alright. Won't you accompany me to the door?"

I turned and accepted to accompany her to the door. She told the boys goodbye and left.

Ace's POV:

Heather closed the door and came back to join us. She didn't look alright.

"What's wrong, baby? You look odd."

She smiled, quickly.

"No, it's nothing."

I was about to talk again when my phone rang. It was a call from the sheriff.

"Hello, sheriff Bates?"

"Yes, hello Sheridan. I told the head of the police here, about your story. He agreed to help investigate. The files arrived from Blueville today."

"That's wonderful news."

"It sure is, my boy. We need you at the department tomorrow in the afternoon for your case filing against Christina. Bring those videos along."

"I will. Thank you so much."

"No problem, son. See you tomorrow."

"Yes, sir!"

I hung up and told the others about the news. Everyone was satisfied with the news.

*
During the lunch break the next morning, I copied the specific videos in which Christina, Rob and Elijah admitted to having killed my father and uncle Kenneth, into a USB key.
I told Heather goodbye and headed for the police department.

*
Heather's POV;

I looked at what I'd just thrown up before flushing it away. I rinsed my mouth and returned into the office where I sat down, thinking. The medicine I took was not of great help apparently.

And then, I thought of what Shirley had said. It'd disturbed me the whole night. What if she was right? What if I was pregnant? My eyes watered.
Oh no. How would Sheridan react? Like many other guys, he might refuse it. It was too early and unexpected to have a kid, right?

I didn't even want to think of it because it made me feel horrible.
But I had to know. Slowly, I opened my bag and took out the kit, my heart beating faster than usual. It was now or never. I had to know. It was better. If I didn't try, I would be disturbed and not at peace. With shaky hands, I stood up with the test kit and headed for my toilets.

*
Ace's POV:

Everything went on fine. My part of the story was written down and the videos were taken to be watched and studied. I was soon free to go back to the office. I met sheriff Bates and shook hands with him.

"Thank you so much, sheriff."

"Don't thank me, son. It's a pleasure. If those videos you brought have enough proof, then be sure both murderers will be arrested as soon as possible."

"The videos have everything. Thank you so much once again."

"You're welcome. Always a pleasure to help."

*
Heather's POV:

I walked into the office with swollen eyes. I collapsed on my seat like a sack of potatoes. With shaky hands, I picked my phone up and called Shirley, telling her everything.  She advised me to talk with Ace.

*
Ace's POV:

I returned to the office in a very good mood. I sat down and laughed to myself. Christina's end was near. I served myself some whisky and began to drink.

Suddenly, Heather entered my office.
I sat up, staring at her. Her eyes were swollen red like she'd been crying, she was pale and looked anxious. Very nervous too. She approached my table, without even looking at me once. Her eyes on her intermingled fingers. I stood up, worried and walked to her.

"Heather? What is it??" I asked, a little panicked. She raised her eyes and looked at me.

"We need to talk. I have to tell you something."

I frowned, in confusion and slight fear.

"What is it?"

Heather's POV:

I didn't even know where to start from.

"I– I don't have belly worms. I'm perfectly okay," I stuttered.

"Uh, okay?" he looked at me confused.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I then opened them and spoke.

"We're three in this office."

He seemed even more confused.

"Huh?" he looked around, "Heather, what is it? What do you mean?"

I stared at him and he held my face, not understanding what was wrong with me.

"Heather, what the fuck is wrong?" he asked, staring straight into my eyes. I didn't speak but just stared back. He looked at me and all of a sudden, the worried expression on his face turned to surprise. He let go off my face and his eyes dropped to my stomach.

"You're pregnant," he stated in a low voice. Almost a whisper. If I could disappear, I would.

"Sweetheart, are you?" he asked.
I swallowed and slightly nodded my head.

His eyes grew wide and he stepped back, leaning against his table in surprise.

"Oh my gawd," he whispered.

"Sheridan, I– I know it's unexpected and shocking but I–"

"I'm gonna have a child?" he asked with wide eyes.

I was scared.

"Yes. I'm so sorry–"

"I'm gonna have a baby??" he asked in a louder voice, causing me to jump. I stared at him and to my surprise, a broad smile spread across his face.

"I'm gonna have a baby! Oh my gawd, this is wonderful!" he stood up happily.

I was dumbfounded and lost.

"What? You're not angry?" I asked, lost.

"Why should I??" he grabbed me and hugged me tight, "Oh my gawd, I'm so happy! I love you!"

I couldn't believe my ears.

"You want to– to keep the baby?" I asked, against his chest. He immediately broke the hug, a frown on his face.

"You don't wanna keep our baby??" he asked, eyes wide.

"I– no, not that. Of course I want to but I thought you'd be furious and–"

"Furious? Furious? Heather, are you kidding me?" he laughed,  "Are you sure you know me?"

I was speechless.

"Love," he whispered and kissed my forehead, "Let me tell you what's in you right now. It's a mixture of both of us. It's the product of our love. Why in this world, would I refuse it? Who do you take me for?"

I looked at the handsome man in front of me. Tears filled my eyes and a smile drew itself on my lips. Why had I been so scared? I felt ridiculous all of a sudden.

"I'm sorry," I happily wrapped my arms around him, hugging him tight and sobbing against his chest, a smile on my face. He held me back and kissed my head.

"You don't know how happy I am right now. I love you," he held my chin and made me look up at him.

"I love you too."

He smiled, wiped my tears away and soon his lips were on mine. The joy I felt at that moment was inexplicable.
I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him with all my heart.
