Chapter 46

Laura POV.
"I sat on the bench, traversing the garden, listening to the sounds of the crickets chirping and sending their melodious, attractive sounds into my ears. The butterflies perched on the flowers like two lovelies.

Thoughts of my night with Frank kept flooding my head. The goddess has her ways of putting a smile on my face. My fingers were crossed, wrapped around one of the hibiscus flowers close to me, as I whistled the tune of my favorite music."

"A message beeped on my phone, but I was too carried away by the sound and deliberate melody of my whistling. I faintly blinked slowly, staring at the phone as it continued buzzing. Who's this person? I asked without checking and picked up my phone.

A loud gasp escaped my lips: ‘Uhh, it's Frank,' I muttered, scanning the message. Why's he asking for my current location? I read the message twice, my eyes fixed on the screen."

"My mind raced with questions. Why did Frank need to know my location? Didn't we part ways last night with a sweet goodbye? A mix of excitement and apprehension swirled in my chest. I hesitated for a moment, then typed out a response: 'I'm in the garden; why?' My thumb hovered over the send button, wondering what Frank's intentions were. Finally, I pressed send and waited anxiously for his reply."

"Within seconds, my phone buzzed again. Frank's response was brief: 'Need to see you. Urgent.' My heart skipped a beat. What could be so urgent? I felt a shiver run down my spine as I typed out a reply: 'What's going on? You're scaring me.' I sent the message and waited, my eyes fixed on the screen. The minutes ticked by, each one feeling like an eternity. Finally, my phone buzzed again. Frank's response was brief and cryptic: 'Just on my way there, now.”

"Laura!" I heard Frank's voice boomed from behind. He stood at the garden doorway, his eyes soaked with emotion and his voice cracking with intensity. A momentary lapse of confidentiality circled my mind as I watched him in wonder. "Frank, are you okay? Why are you standing there like a lost sheep? Come over." I waved my hands in the air, gesturing for him to approach.

"Frank's expression didn't change, but he slowly started walking towards me. His eyes were fixed on mine, and I could see a deep sadness and worry etched in them. My heart raced with anticipation, wondering what was wrong. As he approached, I noticed his clothes were disheveled and his hair was messy. He looked like he had been through a storm.

'Frank, what's going on?' I asked, my voice laced with concern. He stopped in front of me, his eyes searching mine. 'Laura, we need to talk,' he said, his voice low and serious. 'Something's happened; someone fought with you? I asked urgently.

"Not at all; my messy dress and hair were from my early morning training; I had sprinted to the woods. Okay, so, what's with your moody face?" I clenched my fist on the bench, leaning on the armrest, and waited for him to speak up. "It's my father; oh, your father? What happened to him?" I asked, my eyes fixed on Frank's.

"Nothing serious," he said, but his short statement was tormenting my heart. My fluctuating gaze zoomed in on him for a while, then I asked, "If it's not about your father's health, and you mentioned us, what's the problem with us?" My heart raced with thoughts, and my eyes were weary with disappointment. "Hope it's not another rejection," I muttered softly.

Frank's expression turned solemn, and he hesitated before speaking. "Laura, from the moment I met you, I knew you were special. But my past... It's complicated. I've been keeping secrets from you, and I'm not sure if you'll still want to be with me after you know the truth."

My heart skipped a beat as I processed his words. Secrets? What kind of secrets could he possibly have? I felt a mix of emotions. concern, and a hint of fear.

"Frank, what are you talking about?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

"He took a deep breath before continuing. 'My family... has always wanted me to settle down with Clara, making her my Luna, but I have rejected that because I love you, Laura. I still love you, no matter what happens.' My eyebrows shot up in shock as I felt my blood pumping fast. 'What are you trying to say, Frank?' My voice trembled with fear, my eyes already brimming with tears."

Frank's eyes locked onto mine, filled with a mix of sadness and determination. "I'm saying that my family won't stop until they get what they want. They'll try to force me into a bond with Clara, and I'll lose my chance to be with you. But I can't let that happen, Laura. I want to be with you, to protect you, to love you."

Tears streamed down my face as I processed his words. I felt like I was trapped in a nightmare with no escape. "What can we do, Frank? How can we assure your dad that the moon goddess has already made a choice for you?

"I don't think it's possible, Laura. I'm being threatened with my position as the alpha. I'm forced to choose between you and my pack. It's like choosing between the deep blue sea and the red sea; both options are treacherous." He quickly pulled me up into a hug. "I love you, Laura, but..."

As we hugged, I felt Frank's warmth and strength, but also his turmoil and uncertainty. I knew he was torn between his love for me and his duty as alpha. I pulled back to look at him, my eyes searching his face. "What are you going to do, Frank? You can't give up your pack, but you can't give up on us either."

Frank's eyes were filled with a deep sadness. "I know, Laura. I feel like I'm being ripped in two. But I have to make a choice. And I have to make it now."

"My pack is everything to me, Laura, but I'll never let anything happen to you. I'll always protect you, no matter what.”
