Chapter 69

Frank pov

I set out on my journey to search for Laura, haunted by the need to make things right with her. My family's disapproval of my decision to meet up with her still lingered, but I couldn't shake off the memory of Clara's tearful eyes and pleading tone.
I got dressed in my red trousers, black sneakers, and black top, then headed out of the mansion, jumping into my Corolla hatchback. I drove recklessly through the streets, my car screeching and swerving as I sped away from the mansion.
"I need to find Laura," I murmured to myself, driving down the expressway without hesitation. My eyes nearly popped out of their sockets when I almost collided with another car. "What the heck!" I exclaimed, my heart racing as I struggled to regain control of the wheel, which spun twice in my hands.
With my heart still racing, I managed to pull over to the side of the road and take a few deep breaths. That was close, I thought to myself. I can't afford to get into an accident now, not when I'm so close to finding Laura.
I took a moment to collect myself, then continued driving, my eyes scanning the road ahead. Finally, I saw it—the exit for Laura's town. I took the exit and drove into the town, my eyes scanning the streets for any sign of her.
As I drove, I noticed something strange. The town seemed deserted, the streets empty and silent. I drove to Laura's address, my heart pounding in my chest. When I arrived, I saw that her house was dark and empty; the windows were boarded up.
I got out of the car and approached the house, my senses on high alert. Something was off; I could feel it. I walked around the house, searching for any sign of life, but there was nothing.
"Good day, Alpha Frank," a passerby said, their eyes fixed on Laura's building. "Laura's aunt died months ago, and Laura herself has still not been found." I nodded instinctively, quickly retreating back to my car. As I drove away from the compound, I thought to myself, "Maybe her aunt's death is connected to Laura's disappearance."
As I drove away from the compound, my mind raced with possibilities. Could Laura's aunt have been involved in her disappearance? Or was it just a coincidence that she died around the same time Laura went missing?
I decided to hire a private investigator to help me find Laura, and I drove home with my mind racing with thoughts. I couldn't shake the image of Laura from my head, and the restlessness was getting worse. I swung open the door to my room and collapsed onto the bed, which was in disarray.
As I lay on the bed, I couldn't shake off the feeling of helplessness that had been building up inside me. I had to find Laura, but every lead I pursued seemed to end in a dead end. I closed my eyes, trying to calm my racing thoughts, but my mind was a jumble of worries and fears.
Just as I was starting to drift off to sleep, my phone buzzed on the nightstand. I groggily reached for it, hoping it wasn't another false lead. But as I saw the message on the screen, my heart skipped a beat.
"Thank goodness it's the investigator," I thought, quickly answering the call. But instead of speaking, he hung up. I was left wondering why he had ended the call so abruptly. I quickly tried to call him back, but his line was restricted. Immediately, my phone screen lit up with a message from him. I quickly jumped out of bed, my heart racing as I read the address he had sent. It was a familiar city, but something about the address seemed vague, and I couldn't quite place my finger on it.
I paced back and forth in my room, trying to make sense of the address. It was a familiar city, but the street name and number seemed to elude me. I racked my brain, trying to remember any connection to that place. And then, it hit me—a memory from years ago, a trip I had taken for a business proposal for my pack.
But what did it have to do with her disappearance? I wondered if the investigator had discovered something that linked Laura to that city.
I quickly grabbed my keys and headed out the door, determined to search for her.
The drive to the city was long, but my mind was racing with possibilities. When I finally arrived in the city, my mind raced a bit.
With the address sent to my phone, I followed the directions carefully but couldn't find any signs of Laura's presence. The message also mentioned a specific restaurant, but I couldn't locate it. Just as I was about to give up, I saw the investigator I had hired earlier standing on the corner. "Welcome, Alpha," he said, his eyes darting towards a nearby restaurant.
The investigator's eyes locked onto mine, and I sensed a hint of urgency in his gaze. "Let's go," he said, gesturing towards the restaurant. “She works here."
I followed him, my heart racing with anticipation. What had he discovered? Was Laura okay?
As we entered the restaurant, a young man approached us immediately, his eyes fixed on me. He bowed, and I nodded and smiled in response. He gestured to a seat, but I shook my head, my eyes locked on his. "I'm looking for Laura," I said, my smile still in place.
But his expression turned solemn, and his brow furrowed in concern. "Alpha, Laura doesn't work here anymore," he said, his voice low. "And there's been news. She was kidnapped."
"Kidnapped?" I repeated, my voice rising in disbelief. "How?" I almost growled, my frustration and anxiety getting the better of me.
The young man nodded solemnly. "Yes, Alpha. She was taken by a powerful witch. No one knows her whereabouts."
"No!" I exclaimed, my eyes widening in horror. I rushed out of the restaurant, determined to find Laura and rescue her from the clutches of the unknown witch.
