Chapter 60

Laura POV

"NO! NO! NO! This is absolute madness!" I thought, my heart racing with shock and denial. "I can't be mated to another alpha! It defies all logic!" I lay there, paralyzed, my eyes locked on the majestic alpha standing over me, whose perplexed expression mirrored my own.

"Alpha, our apologies," Daisy said, her voice barely above a whisper, her head dipping in a brief, respectful bow. Meanwhile, my wolf was chattering incessantly in my mind, driving me crazy with her persistent murmurs about mates. I wished I could silence her, but her words echoed in my brain like a maddening lullaby, refusing to let me focus on anything else.

"Enough!" I growled, my frustration boiling over. "I don't want to hear it. I don't want to think about mates or pack dynamics or any of it. Just shut up and let me deal with this situation."

My wolf's chatter ceased, replaced by a sulky silence. I knew she was still there, still waiting, but at least she was no longer driving me mad with her constant murmurs.

I turned my attention back to Daisy and the other alpha, who were watching me with a mixture of curiosity and wariness. "My Apology, alpha " I said gruffly, trying to sound calmer than I felt. "But let's get one thing straight. I don't want a mate. I don't need a mate. And I certainly don't need some alpha trying to claim me as their own."

The alpha's eyes narrowed, his face darkening with anger. "You don't have a choice in the matter, I'm surprised to be mated to an unknown wolf like you," he snarled. "You're mine now, whether you like it or not."

"I can't believe I'm stuck with a mate, and an alpha at that," I thought to myself, my anger and frustration simmering just below the surface. I glared at Daisy, who was still bowed subserviently, her eyes fixed on the ground. "Let's get out of here, Daisy, now," I demanded, my voice low and urgent. But to my surprise, she refused to budge, her eyes darting nervously to Devon.

"I can't, Laura, Alpha Devon won't allow it," she whispered. I cut her off with a sharp gesture, my patience wearing thin. "Enough, Daisy. Meet me outside," I instructed, turning to leave. But before I could take a step, Devon's hands clamped down on my arms, his grip like a vice. "You're not walking out on me like that," he growled, his eyes flashing with anger.

"You're not going anywhere," Devon repeated, his grip tightening. I struggled to break free, but his hold was unyielding. "Let me go, Devon," I warned, my voice low and even.

But Devon just laughed, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Oh, Laura, you're not in a position to be making demands," he said, his voice dripping with condescension. "You're my mate now, and you'll do as I say."

I felt a surge of anger at his words, but I knew I had to keep my cool if I wanted to escape. I took a deep breath and tried to reason with him. "Devon, listen to me. I don't want to be your mate. I don't want to be tied down to anyone. Please, just let me go."

But Devon's expression only hardened. "You're not going anywhere, Laura. You're mine now, and I won't let you go."

"I realized I was in serious peril. Devon's eyes had turned wild and predatory, his grasp on my arms unyielding. "What you're doing right now is abuse," I said, my eyes narrowing in defiance. Devon merely smiled, his grip tightening. "We're mates, Laura.

That makes it different," he claimed. I turned to Daisy, my mind racing with desperate options. "Daisy, are you just going to stand there and watch your friend be manipulated and controlled by your so-called alpha?" I appealed to her, trying to stir her into action.

"The stubborn resistance wasn't working, and Devon's grip finally loosened, allowing me to stumble backward. The pain of being mated only to be rejected was overwhelming, and tears streamed down my face. I clenched my fists in despair, feeling cursed. Daisy, unable to bear seeing me in such agony, rushed to my side and enveloped me in a tight hug.

"I can't do this again," I whispered, my voice shaking. "I can't be mated for the third time only to be expecting a rejection again." But before Daisy could offer any comfort, Devon's booming voice cut through the air. "What?! You've been mated twice before and rejected both times?!"

Devon's eyes widened in shock, his face pale with disbelief. "You've been mated twice before?" he repeated, his voice laced with disgust. "And you were rejected both times? What's wrong with you, Laura?"

I felt a surge of anger at his words, but Daisy's gentle grip on my arms held me back. "Don't, Laura," she whispered. "He's the Alpha."

But I couldn't help myself. "What's wrong with me?" I spat, my eyes blazing with fury. "You're the one who's trying to force me into a mating I don't want. You're the one who's refusing to listen to me."

Devon snarled, his eyes flashing with anger. "You're mine, Laura," he growled. "And I won't let you go."

I laughed, a cold, bitter sound. "You can't keep me, Devon," I said, my voice dripping with disdain. "I won't be held captive by someone who doesn't care about my feelings or my well-being."

"Don't you get it? I've been rejected twice already!" I exclaimed, my voice cracking as I sank to the ground, my eyes wide with fear at the thought of taking another chance. But to my surprise, Devon's face went pale, and he gently lifted me up, his hands cradling mine.

"I understand, Laura," he whispered, his eyes locked on mine. "I'm just trying to be possessive because I need to claim you as mine. I can't bear the thought of losing you to anyone."

"I can't do this again, I can't mate again."
