Chapter 70
Damian pov
With the details provided by the fortune teller, I couldn't wait to reunite with Laura. It had been years since we last saw each other, and the teller's information had given me hope.
I arrived in the city where the fortune teller had directed me, my eyes scanning the surroundings, searching every nook and cranny for any sign of Laura. But she was nowhere to be found. My heart was racing, my anxiety was building, and my bones were cracking with a loud noise as I stretched out to ease the tension, standing beside my car.
As I stood there, trying to gather my thoughts, my instincts were wavering wildly. What if Laura is dead? The fortune teller's words echoed in my mind: "Laura is in the captivity of a witch, who has taken her into her own custody." The thought sent a chill down my spine.
I shook my head, trying to dispel the morbid thoughts. No, I couldn't think like that. Laura was alive, and I had to find her. I took a deep breath and stepped forward into a nearby restaurant. The fortune teller made all Laura's details known to me without missing an incident of her life in the city.
I walked into the restaurant, and a lady attended to me. Feeling obligated to make a purchase, I took a table close to the flower vase, which was near the main entrance. My gaze darted back and forth, my nervousness and urgency growing with each passing moment.
As I sat there, my eyes scanned the room, searching for any sign of Laura or the witch. The restaurant was dimly lit, with only a few patrons scattered about.
Suddenly, the lady who had attended to me earlier approached my table. "Can I get you something to drink, sir?" she asked, her voice low and mysterious.
I hesitated, unsure if I should reveal my true intentions. But something about her eyes seemed to bore into my soul, and I found myself speaking before I could think twice.
"I'm looking for someone," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "A woman named Laura. She was taken by a witch."
The lady's expression remained neutral, but her eyes flickered with a hint of recognition. "I know nothing about any witch," she said, her voice dripping with an air of secrecy. "But I can tell you that Laura was indeed here. And she's in grave danger."
"And she wiggled her finger in the air," she said. "Someone else is here for Laura, too. He looks just as tense as you do." My brows furrowed in concern. "Who is he?" I asked, my mind racing with uneasy thoughts. "He also claims to rescue her from the witch's cave," she added. "I believe he's her mate."
"Her mate?" I asked, confusion etched on my face. "Laura only has one mate, and that's me!" I blurted out, but Daisy chuckled. "My name is Daisy; I'm Laura's friend. Laura is mated to Alpha Frank and Alpha Devon." She trailed off, her eyes narrowing slightly. "Are you Alpha Damian?"
I was taken aback by Daisy's words. Alpha Frank and Alpha Devon? Laura was mated to two Alphas? I felt a surge of jealousy and possessiveness, my heart racing with the implications.
"Yes, I'm Damian," I said, trying to compose myself. "Laura's mate. Her only mate."
Daisy's expression was skeptical. "I apologize, Rio, but Laura has been mated to Frank and Devon for months now. They're her rightful mates, and they're desperate to rescue her from the witch's clutches."
I shook my head, refusing to believe it. "No, that's not possible. Laura would never mate with anyone else. She loves me, and I love her."
Daisy's eyes softened. "I understand that you care for Laura, Damian. But you need to understand the truth. Laura's life is in danger, and you need to work together to save her."
"I don't want to work with anyone," I snarled, my alpha instincts on high alert. "Just show me the way to the witch's lair, and I'll handle it myself." But Daisy smiled, her eyes glinting with a hint of mischief. "I can't do that, Alpha Damian. The witch's identity is a secret, known only to a select few. And besides, Alpha Devon, who was previously declared missing, has just been found, and he's also searching for Laura."
I growled, my frustration mounting. "What do you mean,'select few'? You're her friend, aren't you? You must know something!"
Daisy leaned in, her voice barely above a whisper. "I know that the witch is powerful, Alpha. And dangerous. She has a personal vendetta against Laura, and she won't stop until she's destroyed her."
I snarled, my heart racing with anger. "What vendetta? What did Laura ever do to her?"
"I don't know what to say, Alpha," Daisy said, her voice laced with a hint of desperation. "Just team up with the other Alphas to search and rescue Laura, please." With that, she turned and hurried off, attending to other customers in the restaurant.
I watched Daisy go, my mind racing with thoughts. Team up with the other Alphas. It went against everything I believed in. But for Laura, I would do anything.
I took a deep breath and made my way out of the restaurant. I needed to find Devon and Frank, and fast. We had to work together if we were going to have any chance of rescuing Laura. Not only that, she had to choose her mate from the three of us.
Arla ruined my union with Laura, and now I'm determined to win her back and claim her heart before the other Alphas do.
