Chapter 54.

**Narrator’s POV.**

The three men walked through the long, dark hallways, trailing after the uniformed man closely. They tried their best to ignore the other men who were snarling at them from the other side of bars, “We are here”, the uniformed man said before hitting the gate, “O’Connell, you have guests”, he scowled at the man who was laying down on a flimsy, small bed tucked to the side of the equally as small cell.

The man raised his head up and turned to them, his eyes lit up and he rushed over to the gate, wrapping his hands around the bars, “Warden, we can take it from here”, one of the men said, the warden looked at them skeptically, “Don’t worry, busting him out is the last thing on our minds”, the warden nodded and walked away, going to stand by the main gate.

“What the hell do you mean by ‘you’re not going to bust me out of here’?”, Andrew snarled at his sons,

“We said what we said Andrew”, Kevin hissed harshly, “We are not getting you out of here and even if we wanted to, we can’t. Don’t forget that you are on sixty years without parole”, yes, they court hearing had been a week ago and Andrew O’Connell had been transferred to the state prison where he was supposed to stay for the next sixty years of his life, “Of course, I do not think you will make it that far, considering the fact that you are evil”.

“I just wanted to make life good for all of you”, Andrew said softly, his shoulders were slacked and for a second, he actually seemed remorseful, but they knew him better than that, “I did not want my kids to go through what I went through”, he continued, “Yes, I admit that I have done some bad things-”,

“Terrible things”, Alex corrected,

“Terrible things but I do not regret anything. I wanted my family to have a better life than I had”,

“But yet, you allowed your parents to live in a such a small house”, Gabriel pointed out, he knew that things just weren’t adding up.

“You think I did not offer them luxury?!”, he snapped at his eldest son, “I offered them every single time but they always told me that the money I owned wasn’t pure or that they weren’t interested in spending blood money with me”, his yes became darker, “I don’t know how they knew, they just knew. I could tell they were getting angsty and even heard them talking about going to report me to the cops, so I took care of it the best way I knew how”, a sinister smile crawled up to his lips and that was when they knew that their father did not belong inside a jail cell, he belonged inside a fucking white room, with a straitjacket holding him together in a goddamn mental hospital.

He wasn’t a criminal; he was just crazy, insane and out of his goddamn mind!

“You killed your parents?! You’re a sick bastard”, Gabriel said scornfully, disgusting written on every inch of his face,

Andrew still had that smile on his face, “Okay, yeah, I get it. I shouldn’t have given them slow poison or whatever and I understand now that I am a bad, bad man who has gotten what he deserves. I know, this is what I deserve- we have that accomplished. Now can you get me out of here?”, this man was delusional and sentimental,

“You don’t get it, do you?”, Gabriel asked, folding his arms over his chest, “We are not here to bail you out or get your ass out of jail. We are here to say goodbye for the last and final time, this is the last time you will be seeing us and this is the last time we will be seeing you”, they had made this decisions a few days back, they had all decided that they were going to get closure and tie all loose ends with their father.

“So, you’re all just going to abandon me here?”, he yelled, banging his fists on the bars, making them rattle loudly.

Alex shrugged, smirking at his father, “Pretty much, yes, that is exactly what we are doing”, he moved closer to the bars, “How does it feel Andy? To be neglected by people who are supposed to love you? To not have anyone willing to help you? Where are you social climbers now that you’re in jail? Right, they all left you to rot here just like we are about to do”, he spat. They guys started to walk away when Gabriel paused in his steps and turned back to his father- he clearly wasn’t done with him yet,

“You know, murder wasn’t even your worst offense”, he started, “It was putting three brothers against each other, putting your sons against each other just because you enjoyed the entertainment. You are going to hell Andrew O’Connell, you can bet on it”, he began walking away again when Andrew yelled,

“You are also going to hell, you hear me?!”, he began shaking the bars vigorously, “You spent my blood money with me! You are going to hell as well”,

“Then I’ll see you in hell”, Gabriel muttered to himself before walking away from his monster of a father for the last and final time.

**Tessa’s POV.**

I sat on the chair, waiting for the prison guards to get her. I wasn’t sure that I wanted to do this but when the guys said they were going to visit their father for the last time, I decided to just get on with it, I needed to meet her so I could move on with my life.

She walked in through the door in an orange jumpsuit and handcuffs, her eyes were narrowed in on me as she sat down in front of me, glass was the only thing separating us from ach other. She picked up the phone and I did the same, “Why are you here?”, she spat,

“I can see that orange really suits you”, was my next remark, she rolled her eyes,

“What are you doing here, Tessa?”, she asked me,

“Honestly…”, I drawled out, placing my elbows on the table as I adjusted the phone in my hand, “I don’t know. I thought I was here to seek closure but now, seeing you like this, I just realized that I only came here to make sure you were actually gone, to make sure this wasn’t a dream and that you were actually behind bars”,

“So, you came here to insult me?”, her eyes were narrowed to slits and her lips pursed together,

“Precisely, yes. But I also came to let you know that I am not the troubled one Bethel, you are. You are a disgrace to womankind and I hope to the heavens that you die here, the world does not deserve a monster like you”, I spat at her, turned out that I actually had a lot to say, “Your husband was diagnosed with cancer and what did you do? You decided to run off and become a fucking serial killer! Dad is rolling in his grave right now watching you because guess what?”, a tear slipped down from my eye and a lump formed in my throat, “His last words were ‘tell your mother I love her’, he loved you, a fucking monster! You do not deserve his love, in fact, you do not deserve anybody’s love!”, I stood up with the phone still perched unto my ear, “Forty-five years is a very long time, I hope to never see you again. This is goodbye for the rest of our fucking lives”, I know I shouldn’t have said the next line but I did, “And for your information, I am getting married to Gabriel”, I lifted up my left hand so she could see the beautiful diamond ring he had given me, “And you wouldn’t be there”, I slammed the phone into the holder and walked away from her, never turning back.

I had gotten the closure I needed, from now on, I was only going to look forward, to the future.

I walked out of the prison compound where Drew had been waiting for me, “Are you okay?”, he asked,

I nodded and wiped at my cheeks, “Yes, I am fine”,

“Ready to go to the airport?”, I nodded my head and slid into the passenger seat of the car, I kicked off my shoes and tucked my knees close to my chest. I was overwhelmed, I felt so happy that I had gotten rid of the monsters in my life- there were one too many of them but they were all in jail cells, tucked away for what was possibly going to be the rest of their lives because who are we kidding, there is no way my mother is still going to be alive in forty-five years or is Andrew going to live for the next sixty years. They were going to rot in jail and it kept a huge smile on my face.

We got to the airport and parked the car in the lot, “When are they supposed to get here?”, I asked Drew as I got down from the car,

“Their plane should be arriving any minute from now”, I nodded and walked with him into the airport building. Gabriel, Kevin and Alex had gone back to Wyoming to see their father since he had been sent to the prison there while my mother had been placed in a Californian prison unit which meant that there was no need for me to travel.
