Chapter 6.
The tension was peaked, the silence was unbearable and Andrew O’Connell craved some action, watching his son’s fight and quarrel over little things made him feel alive even though it was at their expense, “As we all know”, he began, “Gabriel, your eldest brother and I just came back from a business trip, a very successful one at that”, he paused, waiting for his sassy-mouthed second son to add a snarky input,
“Shocker”, Mr. O’Connell sucked at being a father in many ways but he knew his boys well, he studied their characters and could read them like books, he knew all their week spots and always found a way to use it against them,
“No one asked you to talk Alex”, Gabriel snarled at him with an irritated expression on his face,
“I beg to differ”, he gave his smirking father a mean glance and transferred it to his brother, “You do not control me Gabriel, maybe you can control Kevin but not me”, he stood up from his seat hastily, the chair falling to the ground and breaking in the process.
“Do not fucking put me into this”, Kevin warned and continued with his food,
“But you did not deny that Gabriel is an asshole piece of shit that tries to control everything”,
“I’d rather be that than a Casanova who fucks anything in skirt”, he shot back at Alex,
“Your mums come next”, at this, hell was let loose as Kevin shot up from his own seat and made his way to Alex to give him the beating of his life while Gabriel just chose to ignore his brother’s foolishness, but Alex was not satisfied with Kevin pummeling him, he wanted more, he craved the thrill, “Don’t you know Gabriel? Your mum tasted me once and she keeps coming back for more banging hot sex, but I don’t use my products twice”, he was trying to rile his brother up, maybe if he hit the right spot, he would join the brother that was currently throwing fists at him.
“Shut the fuck up”, Gabriel growled at him, Alex was getting into his head, just like the manipulative dick he was.
“Its true though, your mum is a total milf, you know that? I should really fuck her again”, something in Gabriel snapped, it was the rope holding him back from attacking his younger brother like an animal, he enjoyed acting civilly when it came to his brothers- it made him look like the better and more responsible one but Alex had pushed him beyond his limits. Another chair fell back again and the angry- looking Gabriel made his way over to his brother who he had sat far away from,
“I am going to kill you”, before he could throw a punch in, a clap echoed through the dinning hall, receiving their attention, their father gave them amused looks as he watched them like a movie on the television.
“That is enough, Kevin, release your brother”, he commanded and Kevin did as he was told, pushing Alex away from him, “You three are fools, very predictable fools, one fool bigger than the other. I do not see how I can entrust any of you with my company at this rate”,
“It is my birthright”, Gabriel defended, his fists still itched for some action, they wanted to dance on the face of his enemies.
“I can choose my successor how I please. You cannot tell, it might not be any of you”, Andrew O’Connell stood up from his seat and walked towards the door, “By the way Alex, you are paying for that chair you broke”, with that, he left them in the room looking and feeling like fools. He had just caused a mini war without even trying, he just said a sentence and they did the rest, he could say that exact thing twenty times and watch them fight because of it twenty times over.
Their hate was something he used against them as well, the fact that they were always in constant competition pushed them to work harder for him and even though it did not make them better people, he was fine with that, as long as he profited from it. To Andrew O’Connell, money was a one-way ticket to happiness, nothing else mattered to him more than his source of income- his company. He wanted them to fight over it, it made him happy to watch them bicker and banter over it, the company was the main reason they hated each other, right?
They were never close when they were little but the main war and rivalry started when he had their mothers enlighten them on their roles in the future, he had made sure they spiced it up just so the boys would never be close, it was good for business- it was good for him, after all, he was their father and he knew best.
“I’m fucking out of here”, Alex adjusted himself before leaving his brothers that were seconds away from beating him to death. He had never provoked Gabriel to the point of him actually hitting him so he did not know how his fist felt, but Kevin on the other hand had no restrain, he was wild and impulsive and had probably hit his brothers time without number.
He made his way down the quiet hallways and into the garden, he wondered if Tessa was available, was she busy? There was only one way to find out. With a sigh, he walked across the garden and went straight to the staff quarters, it was the first he had ever gone there as he never seen the need before then. He eventually found the door he was looking for and knocked on it, he heard footsteps and the door suddenly burst open, “My whore of a mother is not around Jerry, you can come back later”,
“Wait, your mum is hooking up with the Chief Security Officer?”, Tessa’s head snapped up once she heard the very familiar voice, a blush creeped up her cheeks once she realized what she had said and how careless she had been, it could have been anybody- anybody like, Alex?
“What are you doing here?”, her eyebrows scrunched up in confusion as she wondered what the man in front of her wanted, not that she was not happy that he came to see her but this place was so out of his league, his presence made everything in the dull place look flashier and brighter, maybe it was his bright wine suit that stood out from the boring grey and beige walls. Plus, the whole building was eerily silent with only the chirping of garden birds roaming around the atmosphere, the whole place was deserted,
“Let’s go out, just you and me”, he suggested, hoping she would say yes, after the shit of a dinner or lunch he had, he could really use some company. He could have just called one of his booty calls but surprisingly, he was not in the mood for sex, which was a first as he was always a horny bastard.
She was excited even though she did not know what to call this, was he asking her out or was he just asking her to accompany him somewhere? He probably just needed someone to hang out with, the dinner was probably horrible and was his lip busted before he went for dinner, “I’ll go grab my coat”, she rushed into her bedroom and picked out a random coat from her bag, she was still yet to pack as she did not plan on spending too much time with her mother. “Where are we going?”, she asked once he came to view again,
“Honestly Tess, I don’t know”, he took her hand in his and led her away from the building,
“Rough dinner?”,
“Horrible”, as much as she wanted to know what happened, she knew it was wise to not pressure him into going any further, he disliked talking about his brothers and she was going to respect that.
