No more
Rae’s POV
After Erik ‘handed me over’ to Cassandra, he left in a hurry.
“Is everything alright?” Cassandra asked, looking at Erik’s back. I could hear the worry in her voice.
“Yes.” She turned to me and had a warm smile on her face.
“Seems like you are learning a lot, right?” I nodded and she smiled even more. “Now, now, let’s eat something. I bet you didn’t eat before class, huh?”
Indeed, I have not. And just because she mentioned it, my belly was screaming with hunger. It made Cassandra laugh, as she told me to sit and started to serve me dinner. The others have already prepared the table for the Alpha and the other higher ranked werewolves of the pack.
After I ate, I helped with the dishes and finally, I was free to go to my room and sleep. But I couldn’t sleep at all, not after… My fingers were tracing my own lips, as if I could still feel Erik’s warmth there. That would be silly of me to think that, wbut at that moment, I was a fool. I closed my eyes and remembered our kisses.
Thinking about him and what we did. And what I wanted us to do - I didn’t really know what it was, but I wanted to be that omega girl, who was on top of him the other day. I wanted him, whatever that meant.
By morning, I woke up feeling refreshed! For the first time in so long, I didn’t just have a blank dream or nightmares. I dreamed about Erik. Did he.. Did he feel like me? Or I was just another female in his life, just like the omega girl?
‘No, stop that!’, I told myself. Why torture myself withou those bad thoughts? What I had to do was to raise my head and keep good thoughts inside my head. That way, I would do a good job, I would learn faster and I would be good enough to earn, at least, Erik’s trust. I was not that naive to expect him to love me or to mark me. We were not even mates. Which pained me to the core.
“Are you ready, Rae?” Cassandra’s voice came accompanied by a knock on my door, like she did every morning. She wouldn’t enter the room, instead, she would wait for me to open the door, greet me with a bright smile and we would both go to the kitchen to start to prepare breakfast for the whole pack.
Cassandra was called due to some issue in another part of the packhouse. She took off her apron and asked me to keep kneading the dough for the pie. I was very entangled in my own thoughts, but the mention of Erik’s name made me pay attention to the voices behind me. Patricia and Delilah, as always, gossiping.
“Yeah, I’ve heard he has to marry and soon.” Patricia said, as if whispering, but she was doing a very poor job, because I could hear them clearly. Or was it on purpose?
“True.. I even forgot that he was almost twenty-eight years old. So, little time to marry.” Delilah was very malicious when she said her next words. “He must produce an heir.”
“I bet this won’t be a problem.” Patricia said and they both were giggling. “The Alpha is a perfect male. Imagine, being under him, with those beautiful green eyes looking at you while he goes all crazy!”
I blushed because I just imagined what she said. I shook my head to push away those sordid thoughts.
“I heard that there is already a chosen bride for him. I don’t recall her name, but she is the youngest daughter of Alpha Rockwood.”
“Rockwood?” Patricia asked. “He is very handsome, although pretty older than us. I saw his daughter last year when the Silver Bow Pack came here. She is really pretty! The kids will be amazing, outstanding, gorgeous!”
Patricia’s words were like a knife being stabbed in my chest, over and over again. Erik had a bride.
“They will be coming here soon. I overheard the talk between Gamma and Delta.” Delilah said and both women sighed.
I just realized I was crying because I felt something wet on my hands, I had even stopped moving my hands without noticing it.
“Hey! Keep working, you bitch!” Patricia said. “I didn’t forget about yesterday… Keep your eyes open, little shit!”
I nodded without uttering a word, dried my tears on the back of my hands and finally got back to work. If I concentrated on the work, I would not think about Erik and him with another woman. His wife to be.
Cassandra came back when the pie was already inside the oven. Patricia and Delilah started to gather the plates and trails to deliver them at the dining hall’s table. Another omegas helped, while I was to stay inside the kitchen, I was grateful I wouldn’t have to go out at that moment to look at Erik’s face.
“Cassandra?” I called for her and she answered with a hum. “Could you get back to teaching me?”
She, who was washing the dishes, stopped moving and turned around. She had a very confusing look on her face.
“To teach you?” She frowned her eyebrows. ‘But… isn’t the Alpha doing this?”
“Well… I think I have been taking too much of his time. He keeps wasting time with me, a rogue. He has a whole pack to take care of.”
“I see… Well, for me, it is perfect. I loved to teach you and we can have fun again. Are you sure about it?” She seemed worried, but I nodded and she smiled. “I’ll see to it, then. The Alpha will be notified of your decision, don’t worry.”
“Thank you.”
Feeling more relieved, I got back to work, as usual. The pack was a place where things always needed to be done. I asked to stay outside, using the excuse of wanting fresh air. I couldn’t just say I wanted to avoid the Alpha, right?
When it was before dinner time, when my chores were all accomplished, I went to the kitchen to help with the food, just like before I started to have classes. Then, I smelled Erik’s scent and my whole body trembled. As much as I loved to feel him around, I could sense something was pretty off. He seemed… angry. No, not angry. Furious. When I raised my eyes to look at the kitchen’s door, the first thing I saw was a pair of deadly green eyes.
“Outside, now!” He yelled and everyone started to move, so I did the same. “Not you, Raelynn!”
I stopped right away and looked around, my eyes landing on Cassandra. She was definitely nervous.
“Alpha, is every-”
“Out, Cassandra. Don’t make me repeat it.” His voice was lower when he spoke with her, but it was not gentle at all. It was a warning. Cassandra looked at me, worried and bent her head down, walking away.
I heard his footsteps approaching me and I couldn’t move. What have I done, now?”
“Look at me.” He demanded with a dangerous voice.
