Don't leave me

Rae’s POV

I asked him if I could leave, since I am no slave, but Erik didn’t answer, not right away, at least. Of course, I didn’t intend on leaving at that moment, not when I wanted to be around him, but it would be good to know I was free and my staying in that pack depended entirely on my own will to do so.

I look at his eyes, trying to understand his feelings and why he is not answering me.

“Yes.” He finally answered. “You can go if you want to.” I didn’t know if he really meant it, because his eyes were darker and he seemed conflicted, to me. But I couldn’t know for sure and I dared not to ask.

I simply nodded and looked at the door. I had to stop looking at that male. HIs scent was enough to make me go crazy, so avoiding his eyes was the best option to gather the courage to leave the room.

“I must finish cleaning the rooms and changing the sheets.” I started to walk, but his warm hand took hold of my arm. He was so big and his hands, huge. Yet, his touch was more than gentle. Looking up, and I think I saw pain in his eyes, but I was not sure. After all, why would he be in pain?

His other hand was on my waist and he pulled me to him, slowly. even through the fabric of my clothes I could feel the electricity caused by his skin on mine. I saw his Adam’s apple going up and down.

“Don’t leave me.” His words were almost a whisper and he leaned down, caressing my face. His lips touched mine and it was just for a few seconds, but enough to make me feel dizzy.

“I won’t.” I don’t even know why I said that. He was simply asking me to stay by and work, right? He couldn’t be liking me like a male like a female. He might desire me - and I have no clue why - but he didn’t like me. He had no reason to. An Alpha. No, not just an Alpha. According to what I knew, the best and greatest Alpha, while I was just someone with no rank inside his pack. And the worst: without a wolf.

He kissed me again and as much as I wanted to let him deepen it, I pushed his chest, no need to use force, and stepped away.

“I’m going.” He nodded and let me go do my work. I didn’t look at my side, to the corpse that was lying on the floor.

Once I entered the kitchen, I could sense Cassandra’s gaze on me and I knew she was worried, but I was not ready to talk to her or to anyone, in fact. I wanted to do my work and think. Erik’s scent was still lingering on my skin and I wanted to enjoy it while I could. I doubted that when he married, he would get near me. And since I was free to go, I would leave.

I spent the next hours cleaning and doing my job inside the rooms. I had no idea who those visitors were, but it didn’t really matter. What was important was that Erik needed to make a good impression, as the host, and if I could help in any way, I would.

I heard some commotion outside, probably the guests had arrived, but I didn’t go to the window to take a look. No, I better finish what I had to, that was the last room, and head to the kitchen.

I smelled a sweet scent that tingled in my nostrils, and not in a very nice way. It made me sick, actually. A female was approaching. I kept working, until I heard the door opening.

“What are you doing here?” A voice as sweet as the scent spoke and I gulped. I turned around, head down, not even looking at the woman, who I had just a glimpse at the figure and could at least say she was blonde.

“I am finishing here, Miss.” I answered, not really sure how I should speak, since I had no idea who she was, what was her rank.

“Then finish it! I want to relax and I can’t, having an omega inside my room!” Ok, she was not gentle, not nice. But that was one nice room, so she was probably important, which meant it was better not to enrage her. I just nodded and turned back again to my chores.

“Oh, this is your room.” I heard a male speaking and he was older, I could tell. He smelled strong, too musky for my taste, his aura was domineering. That was an Alpha. “Who’s this?”

“An omega. I am waiting for that slow idiot to finish it all. Can’t believe Erik permits this kind of useless thing to serve me.” I frowned, but thankfully, she couldn’t see my face.

“I see.” I noticed a different tone now in his tone and it was uncomfortable. When I was finished, I bowed, gathered my things and left.

While I was walking away, I sensed that someone was behind me, and by the smell, it was the Alpha. Probably he was just going downstairs too, but he was going to take the main stair, while I was going to turn on the left and go to the kitchen.

“Wait there.” He called and I stopped. “What’s your name?”

I was not used to talking much, only with Erik, Cassandra and Aaron. Eventually with the others, but not much. It made me uneasy to be around a stranger, now.

“Raelynn.” I answered the best way I could, trying not to stutter.

“Raelynn.” He repeated. “Such a beautiful name. It means ‘beam of light’ or something of the sort. Did you know that?” I shook my head, negatively. No, I didn’t know and I couldn’t guess why he was telling me that.

I waited for him to say something more and, as he didn’t, made a mesure to leave, but he held my arm, and turned me around.
“Let me see your face.” He lifted my chin and his touch was cold to me. So weird, it felt so weird! I looked at his chest, not lifting my eyes, but he leaned down a bit and our eyes met. He was around his forties, blue intense eyes and brown air. “Lilac. You are amazing.”

Then, I smelled him. Erik.

“What are you doing, Alpha Rockwood?” His tone was strong and I could sense he was angered.

The Alpha averted his eyes from me for a second, probably to look at Erik, with a smile, and looked back at me.

“Just appreciating this beautiful omega. Her eyes are something else. Just like the rest of her.” His eyes were scanning me up and down and I just wanted to take a step backwards, to prevent him from keeping touching me.

“Yes, she is. Now, release her. She is not here to entertain you.”

“Why?” He asked and I was astonished at how bold he was. Talking to Erik in that tone. “I’m giving you my daughter, the least you can do is let me have some fun with this beauty.”

I felt my stomach turning over and my head started to hurt. Alpha Rockwood, of course! Patricia mentioned him. He was the father of Erik’s fiancé. I wanted to run away. That blond, that arrogant blonde was the Luna to be of the pack. I couldn’t stand it.

“Nothing is settled and, even if it was.” Erik was now very close to me. “It doesn’t mean I am giving you what is mine.”
