Nina
Raff and I spent the rest of the day talking, and getting to know each other more until it was time for dinner. We made our way down to eat when Raff suddenly stopped me.
“What is ‘tag’?” He asks with a very confused expression on his face. I giggle a little when I realize he has no idea what he is about to go through. I feel kinda bad, but tag is a game designed to help keep you out of the hands of your enemies. At my giggle his face gets a little worried, and we enter the dining hall.
“You will see in a bit.” I tell him with a smile, and his worry only grows. I look up to see Derek and Grey enter looking tired. I feel kinda bad for them. They have had to handle all of my responsibilities, and help me so much they haven’t gotten a break at all, and finals are tomorrow. I think about it for a minute before deciding to do something nice for them after finals are over. None of the pack attend the graduation ceremony, because we throw parties here for the graduates, so after finals are over we are done with school entirely. As I come to this conclusion people begin to file into the dining hall.
We enjoy our meal without any major announcements, and when we finish people begin to get mixed feelings. It is usually like that when we play a game for training. The weaker wolves get worried, and the stronger ones get excited. I notice Theo and Tess off to the side, they still look tense from what happened earlier, but they look like they are getting over it. When I stand I look at Raff who is looking around at the people leaving, and noticing how some are excited, and others nervous. I take his hand, and begin leading us upstairs.
“Make sure to change into something appropriate to train in, with good running shoes.” I tell him when we enter the elevator. He looks at me confused, and I almost feel bad for not explaining what tag is to him, but the instructors explain much better, so as to not scare him more I decide it’s best to leave it be. “When you change, meet me at my room.” He nods his head, but doesn’t say anything, and I can tell he is worried, so I give his hand a firm squeeze as we exit the elevator.
A few minutes later we are walking to the training field in our training gear. I am wearing a sports bra with a loose shirt over it, and leggings. While Raff is wearing loose jogging pants with a loose shirt that has the sleeves cut off. I had to stop myself from ogling him may times on the way out here. His body makes me both hot, and nervous at the same time. When we get to the training field I notice everyone is there already, we fall in line in the front row of people standing at ease. The instructor stands in front of us all, and when I give him a nod he begins to explain.
“As you all know tag is a game for children, but it can also teach us a valuable lesson. If you get caught you are out. When messing with rogues, or enemies out can mean dead, or worse. To prevent it from ever getting to that we play tag. You will be decided into two teams: the Hunters, and the prey. If you are prey your sole goal is to not get caught until you find my friend the protector. The protector is the individual who did best on the last game of tag, so if Sam will step forward please.” A tall skinny wolf steps forward. “Sam, please go find a place to hide, and remember to keep moving. As the prey your goal is to find Sam, and when you do he will hand you something, and you can return safely. If you fail to find Sam, then you will either be ‘tagged’ or you will miss the time limit. Missing the time limit means nothing, but if ever in a real situation like this you will probably end up lost in the woods and die. If you are ‘tagged’ you die you will return here, and extra training will be given until the time limit is up. For those who miss the time limit extra training will be provided tomorrow morning bright and early. You will be expected down here at least an hour early to receive that extra training. Now that things have been explained I will separate you into your groups.” After the explanation I look over at Raff to see a mildly less worried expression on his face. I giggle a little at his worry. When he hears me giggle he looks down to smile at me. His smile holds such love, and adoration I can’t help but blush.
We both ended up as prey, and as the game starts I take off into the woods as fast as I can knowing we only get a ten second head start. Everything is a blur as I run into the trees, but I notice Raff next to me is keeping up effortlessly, and it makes me curious as to how fast he is, so looking him in the eye I give him a challenging smirk as I speed up. I am the fastest in the pack by a lot, but Raff is still able to keep up, and even begins to pass me. I am impressed by his capabilities, and begin to slow down. He glasses at me, and when he sees me slowing he follows suit. I come to a stop sniffing the air for Sam, and catch his scent to the west. I nod my head at Raff telling him which direction to head before taking off. Right as we take off I hear a branch snap behind me, and yell at Raff to run faster. Not many are able to keep up with me, so I already know the wolf behind me is either Derek or Grey who got put as hunters.
As we run I notice I only hear one set of footsteps behind me, and realize they always hunt in a pair. When I go to mind link Raff he is tackled from the side, and I see Derek tag him with paint. Without stopping knowing Grey is right behind me I keep running. I see Sam a few feet ahead, but right before I reach him a foot comes from nowhere, and trips me, sending me tumbling. Only to be met with paint. They tagged me, so now I’m out. I begin to walk back, only to find Raff waiting on the sideline for me. He wraps his arm around me as we make the long walk back to relieve our extra training which is code for (you're going to wish you had made it). By the time we make it back to our rooms we are drenched in powder paint, and sweat. I laughed at us even though we were exhausted. We still looked funny. When I began to laugh Raff did too, and we just stood there for a minute laughing. When we calmed down Raff looked at me, and leaned down to place a gentle kiss on my lips before standing back up straight.
“Will you be going to the party tonight?” He asked a little uncomfortably. I chuckled at him.
“Well it is for us, and I am the alpha, so I don’t really have a choice.” He chuckled nervously scratching the back of his head.
“So would you like to be my date?” I am surprised at him asking. I knew the prairie was for us, but I didn’t expect him to ask me to be his date. A hot blush creeps up my face, and I know he can see it through the paint.
“I would love to.” I say in a quiet voice, and see his whole body tense with joy.
