I tore through anyone who tried to stop me not caring who they were, or what pack they were from. I went for a run in my wolf form, because he was Pissed about the letter I had written to Nina. He was also mad that our mate was on a date with another man right now. I knew logically what I was doing wasn’t right, but I was too pissed to care. As I ran, scenes from the day passed by making me even more mad as I ran. I heard a howl, and knew instantly that they were identifying me as a rogue. I also knew that Nina would come after me, and she would recognize me if she caught up to me. With this realization I ran harder. I knew I had to leave the territory, so nobody would find out. I ran pumping my legs as hard as I could knowing no normal wolf would be able to keep up with my pace. I ran for about an hour before I realized I had long since left Nina’s territory.
*“Why would you do that?! You are such a horrible mate! How could you write something you knew would hurt her like that?!”* Neil screams at me, finally releasing his emotions rather than just killing.
*“What would you expect me to do?! Kill her?!”* I retorted at his irrationality.
*“I expect you to be a proper mate, and not hurt her! Do you have any idea the pain that note caused her?!”* He yelled as I slowly came to a stop at a stream. I bent my head down slowly while taking a drink as I retorted to Neil.
*“If I were a proper mate I WOULD hurt her! More than I am now! You know that!”* I stopped drinking, and looked up to the night sky, and just looked up at the stars.
*“You may think that, but she is stronger than you think! She has power, a title, allies, and she is only 17! If you just gave her a chance you would see she can handle it.”* I decided just to lay on my back, and look up instead of straining my neck.
*“I’M DOING THIS TO PROTECT HER!”* I roared annoyed with him for refusing to see the logic behind my actions. I felt him begin to retreat into my mind.
*“I don’t see it that way”* Was the last thing he said before he retreated completely into my head. Sighing, I looked at the sky admiring how beautiful it was when I heard rustling in the bushes. Immediately becoming alert I looked around to find the source of the noise. Just in time to see a rabbit hop into the clearing. I sighed with relief before noticing I needed to head back, because it was late, and people would notice my absence if I didn’t return soon. I turned away from the stream, and began to make my way back where I came from at a much slower pace. About an hour later I was getting anxious. I realized I was in someone else's territory, but I hadn’t seen any wolves on my way in, or thus far. I was close to the border now, but something felt off. I stopped for a moment to sniff the air. When I did I smelled about 6 different wolves around me surrounding me. I silently cursed myself for being so careless. I kept walking hoping they would leave me be, but as soon as I went to take a step forward I heard a loud growl from behind me. Whirling around as fast as I could my face was met with a paw as the wolf swiped at me. My head rocked to the side with the impact, and an angry snarl was ripped from my throat.
Regaining my composure quickly I slammed both my paws into the attacker with all my might sending him into a tree behind him. I hear the other five wolves snarl in rage before showing themselves. Two were larger than normal while the other three were probably the patrol wolves. The two were probably the beta and gamma. I cursed myself once again for the situation. The five lunged at me from all directions. I knew I had to react or they would kill me, so the fastest one got knocked to the side by a paw while the others descended on me. I felt one bite down on my back ankle, and I let out a loud yelp. I bit at the one in front of me as another one bit at my side. I managed to sink my teeth into flesh and threw them across the small clearing we were in. The third wolf was missing, until I felt something bite my chest. I twisted to try to get the wolf at my side first, as he was causing more damage than the other two. He was just out of reach, and with the other two I was limited in my movements. The pain was beginning to blur my vision when I saw a flash of white. I felt the wolf release my side just as I shifted into my human form, and passed out. I woke up in the pack hospital with a worried looking Nina sitting in a chair next to me. As soon as she saw my eyes open her slumped position shot up.
“You’re up! Nurse!” She yelled before pushing a button on the remote she was holding. Just then a frazzled looking nurse came running in looking around the room before her eyes fell on me. Her demeanor calmed as she realized I was only awake. She had a gentle smile when she spoke.
“Hello alpha, my name is Sarah, and I am your nurse.” She says walking closer to me, giving Nina a small bow of respect in the process. “Are you in any pain? How are your wounds?” She questioned with a concerned tone. She reached my bedside, and lifted up my blanket, and moved my gown to get a look at my ribs which were mostly healed. She smiled, and moved to check my leg which was completely healed. She moved to look at my chest which got a low growl from Nina. The nurse glanced back worriedly to get approval, before looking at my chest. Nina gave a short nod as the nurse looked relieved, and looked at my chest which still had minor wounds on it. She let out a sigh of content before she smiled at me once again saying, “good news Alpha, you will live,” in a chipper tone. “Your healing is working fine, and thankfully the wounds weren’t that bad. You are lucky Alpha Nina got you here when she did.” She says this then turns around to leave after giving Nina another short bow. When she left I turned to Nina who still looked worried.
“What happened?” I ask the question that has been on my mind since I woke up. *Did she see me in wolf form, does she know? What happened after I passed out?* All of these questions raced through my head as I watched, and waited for her answer.
“You wandered into another pack's territory, and when I got there….there were three on you. I couldn’t even see you beneath them.” Her voice cracked a little saying this, and I could see her worry for me plainly on her face. “By the time I got the first one off of you, you had passed out, and were in your human form. As soon as I finished dealing with them I brought you here. You were in bad shape.” I look at her understanding. If I saw her like that I would freak out too. I was grateful she hadn’t seen me in my wolf form though. I breathed a sigh of relief as I looked over at her, and I noticed she looked a little palel. “Look,” she says, looking up to meet my eyes. “I understand you not wanting to help, and you wanting to reject me.” he voice cracked at the last bit. “However, I need your help. You don’t have to work alongside me if you don’t want to. Also, i’m sorry. Derek, Grey, and I are best friends. I would never have anything romantic with either of them. I just don’t feel that way about them. I love them both, but only as brothers. The ‘date’ was just so I could relax a bit, because I had been really stressed lately. Don’t be mad at them.” She says with a sigh. I instantly regret everything I have done to her seeing her face right now. I just want to hold her, and protect her from everything.
“You don’t have to apologize, or explain to me Nina. I should be the one saying that stuff, but I can’t. Just know everything I do is to protect you. Please trust me on that.” I plead with her, hoping she will understand a little bit. She gently nods her head with tears running down her face. She looks like a doll that I want to hug until it smiles again. My heart breaks as I see hers breaking. “I’m sorry” I whisper one last time when I see her body go still, and she falls to the ground. My eyes go wide with fear, and I panic. I jumped out of bed not caring about my own injuries. “NURSE” I yell as she scurries in to see the fallen Nina her eyes go wide with horror.
