Chapter 15
Kayla
Kayla could not find Lucas when she arrived at school the next day. She had planned her day around him. She had been looking forward to seeing him. She had hoped that she would allow him to drive her home today and they would exchange numbers as well. But she could not find him in school. She walked to the car park to check for his car but it wasn't there. She really wished that she had his number. She felt sad and alone all of a sudden.
What was happening to her? Kayla asked herself, trying to shake herself back to her senses. Was she in love with this guy already? It hadn't even been a week since they first met and she was already completely smitten with him. She didn't know anything about him apart from the information that she found out on google. So now she knows that his father was stinking rich and he had a brother. That was it. She didn't know where he lives or anything.
She attended her classes but was just floating through them. Her head was not really in school. She wanted to see Lucas Gray. She wanted to stare into his beautiful eyes and..and, she wanted to kiss him.
During lunch, she sat with Charlotte and her friends as usual. The girls chatted excitedly but Kayla could not bring herself to be excited or to chat with them.
"Is everything alright?' Charlotte asked her "You're awfully quiet today" she added
"I'm fine" Kayla said but she was far from fine. Why wasn't he in school anyways? Has something happened? Where could he have gone? She wished that she could ask someone about him. She thought of asking Charlotte but she remembered that Charlotte had warned her about Lucas. She had said that there was something not right about him and she had insinuated that he might be dangerous.
But Lucas did not look dangerous. He didn't look like he could hurt a fly in fact. Why should she be afraid of him? She remembered then that Lucas was a basketballer. She looked around the cafeteria and saw some of his basketball mates eating at the table he usually sat at. What if he asks them about him? At least they would be able to give her his number. But wouldn't that come across as being thirsty. It would look like she was desperate to have him and she didn't want that. She would have to wait and see if he shows up the next day.
At the close of school, Kayla's mom came to pick her up. Kayla entered the car and sat done stiffly
"Everything okay?" Her mother asked her. Was it really that obvious that she was missing Lucas terribly? She had not meant for it to be that obvious.
"Everything's fine" she said abruptly
"You don't look so bright today" Mitchel said
"I'm fine," Kayla repeated.
Michel reversed the car and drove into the road.
Kayla knew that Mitchel was not satisfied with her answer but she was grateful that she wasn't pressuring her to come out with the truth.
And she was embarrassed about the truth too. The truth was that she was sad that she didn't get to see Lucas and talk to him today. The whole day had been dull without him. That was not the kind of truth she could tell her mother.
Jane got home, stopped for Kayla to come down and drove off back to work.
Kayla strolled inside the house, went up to her room and lay on her bed.
She remembered how Lucas had stared at her like he was going to kiss her. Now that she thought about it, she regrets not letting it happen because there was nothing she wanted more now than to kiss him.
She wanted to be with him so badly. She realized it then. She was in love with him. She had not wanted to admit it to herself but it was the truth. She was in love with Lucas Gray. That was why her day had been dull without him. That was why she thought about him all through her lectures. She was in love with her and she wondered if he felt the same way about her. She hoped that he did because she would really be in trouble if he didn't.
It surprised her that she had fallen for him so quickly. After all, she had found him weird the first time that she saw him but there was no doubt that he was handsome. He had the most magnificent smile and the most beautiful green eyes. She remembered how her heart had seemed to stop when he smiled at her. And he was hot too. The last time that they saw, he was wearing a shirt that was stretched tight by his muscles. He was everything that she liked and wanted in a guy.
Yes, he was a little weird but she didn't care about that. So what if he believes in destiny and he believes theirs was intertwined? It didn't matter because she believes in destiny too. She believes that they should be together and they should kiss and make sweet love to each other.
She really hoped that she would see him at school tomorrow. She just couldn't cope with another day without him.
She picked herself up from the bed and went to her wardrobe to bring out the clothes she was going to wear tomorrow. She had paid particular attention to her dressing in the morning hoping to see Lucas but he hadn't showed up. She had worn a pretty blue dress with Lucas in mind. She was going to look good tomorrow as he might show up.
She picked out a cute red skirt with a white shirt and spread it out on her bed. The skirt would be easy to pull if things got naughty between them. She smiled at her thoughts.
