Chapter 16

Lucas
Lucas could not go to school the day after the fight with Derrick as he was still recuperating from the injury that Derrick had inflicted on him. He couldn't drive with his bad shoulder and he had lost a lot of blood so he was advised on strict bed rest. He should be up and running the next day. For a normal human, it might take weeks to recover from such an injury but Lucas was not a regular human. He was a werewolf and werewolves recover faster. It would have taken only less than an hour if he had been stabbed when he was in his wolf form. But he had been stabbed as a human and so it was bound to take longer for him to recover. He thought of Kayka all through the time he spent away from school. He wondered what she had worn to school that day and imagined how rosy her lips would be.
But he was going to see her today. He was going to go to school today and couldn't wait to meet her. He felt celebratory. He had fought and won a fight that Kayla would never be aware of but he might have just saved her life. He only hopes that Derrick keeps his promise. He had meant to speak with him about it but he had never had a chance to. Derrick lurked in and out of the palace like a ghost.
When Lucas arrived at school, he immediately started to look around for Kayla. He stayed inside his car and waited for her to come to school. He soon saw her mother's car pull up. He already had the car memorized. Kayla came down from the car wearing a cute red skirt and white blouse. Lucas got out of his car as well. Kayla waved goodbye to her mother and turned only to lock eyes with Lucas. She seemed taken aback for a moment and then suddenly, she ran towards him and jumped on him in a tight hug.
Lucas winced painfully. His shoulder hadn't completely healed yet. Kayla released him from her tight hug and she looked so embarrassed suddenly as if she couldn't believe she had just done that. She was as red as a tomato.
Lucas smiled. He put his hand around her back and pulled her closer to him and then he bent down and kissed her passionately. She responded with as much passion. She put a hand around his neck and teased him with her tongue. Lucas felt like the world around him had disappeared and he was in paradise. He wanted more and more of her but then she suddenly pulled away.
Lucas raised up his head to look at her and he could see that some students had slowed down their walking to look at them. Kayak looked around in embarrassment as if she couldn't believe that she had just kissed him right in the middle of the car park and under the eyes of everyone.
Lucas didn't care if the whole world was looking at them. He could kiss her anywhere again and again. He cleared his throat. Kayla laughed nervously
"You seem really excited to see me" he said, referring to the passionate hug that she gave him.
"I could say the same for you" Kayla replied and they both laughed. They stood awkwardly outside for a minute.
"Should we go inside?" Kayla suggested
"Sure" Lucas agreed and they walked side by side into the school.
Lucas wondered if he should hold her hand as they walked through the school hallways. He wondered if he should officially ask her to be his girlfriend but he felt he was moving too fast. He should not forget that he was a werewolf and she was a human. They both were two species that should never mix. This was one of those cases where love was not enough. He loved her but being with her was too risky. Her reaction when she saw him proved to him that she felt the same way about him. He could tell that she liked him a lot too. He wondered if she had looked for him yesterday. And was she disappointed when she could not find him? He smiled to himself. It was good to have someone care about you, he thought.
She was looking mighty pretty today, he thought to himself. From the moment he saw her, he thought of taking her right there and then and doing bad things to her. He wanted to rip her skirt off her and kiss her and leave his mark on her. His wolf could be barely contained too. He couldn't stop thinking about the kiss they had. He wanted every piece of her.
They both had different classes and soon separated in the hallways. Immediately they separated, Lucas could see Derrick coming through the hallways from the opposite direction. He was dressed in all black and he smirked as he passed Lucas. Lucas felt his heartbeat increase. He hoped that Derrick had not seen him with Kayla. He hoped that she was still safe. Derrick wouldn't think twice about killing a human. To him, humans were nothing. They were dispensable.
But why was he afraid, they had had a deal and he had won. He had hoped that Derrick's word would be enough to keep Kayla safe but he wasn't so sure anymore. He had to protect her. She was his mate and he had to protect her. He couldn't keep hiding her from Derrick. It was only a matter of time before Derrick found out who she was.
Lucas went off to his class with Kayla on his mind. He still hasn't collected her number. He was going to go up to her at lunch and collect it. She was always sitting with Charlotte's bunch and he knew that Charlotte did not trust him but he couldn't care less.
During lunch, Lucas walked to the cafeteria and scanned the seats for Kayla but he couldn't find her. He was about to turn back to go check the hallways when he saw her enter the cafeteria. She was alone. He was thankful that she was alone. They both smiled at each other
"Let me have your number," Lucas said to her.
Natalie brought out her phone and gave him her number.
Lucas looked around the cafeteria.
"Do you want to eat lunch or would you want to eat something more delicious?" He asked her and gave her a wink. Kayla looked surprised. Perhaps she was surprised at his confidence and that he could be so direct. She gave him a smile and she allowed him to lead her out of the cafeteria.
"Where are we going?" Kayla asked him as he pulled her along
"To the gym room" Lucas said "it's empty this time of day" he said
They both entered the gym room and locked the door. Lucas felt his adrenaline level going up.
They started with kissing, a slow lingering kiss and then Lucas started to move downwards. He kissed her neck and then her collar bone. He helped her to pull down her blouse and kissed her neck. Kayla moaned. She reached her hand above her back and unhooked her bra. Lucas moved his mouth to her breast and gave it a gentle bite. She moaned louder. Lucas moved back to her mouth and started to kiss her aggressively. He pushed her against the wall, reached his hand beneath her and pulled down her skirt. Kayla lifted her legs to pull the skirt completely off her...
