Chapter 21

After Lucas and Kayla collected their food from the cafeteria, they both sat to eat. Kayla ate her food and when he didn't touch his, she asked why. He simply told her that he was full. He watched Kayla as she ate but he could see her beginning to squirm under his gaze.
She mentioned that she felt a little uncomfortable eating under his gaze. Lucas told her that he liked to watch her eat but when she stared at him obviously waiting for him to do as she wanted, he looked away from her and picked up his phone.
After she finished eating, he offered his burger to her but she claimed that she was full. He has taken the burger because of her. He didn't want to eat just yet because he knew there was going to be a full moon tonight and he was going to feast until he was dizzy with food. The expectation of the feast that awaits him tonight was enough to quench his appetite for a regular burger.
And that was why he offered Kayla his burger. When she said that she was full, he told her to save the burger for later before she accepted it from him
Then they both walked together to their classes. When they got to the front of Kayla's class, she hesitated and so he gave her a perk on her forehead before she walked into her class. Then he continued on to his class. He felt so happy all of a sudden and he knew that it was because of Kayla's presence. It was because of her company that he had just had.
He didn't think that he had ever felt this way about a girl before. He felt like whistling. He felt like bouncing as he walked through the hallway.
But at the back of his mind tugged the worry that had kept him awake many a night; the fact that Kayla was a human. She could have simply been a wolf just like him. In that way, they would both howl and run through the forest together and they would have tried what they did before in their wolf form. He had never had sex in his wolf form before but it was something he definitely would be willing to try. His wolf nodded in agreement.
It was going to be a struggle for them. He wishes that she was just a wolf.
Another worry he had in mind was Derrick. He knew that Derrick likes to ruin anything good that happens in his life. Also, his father, the alpha king would not stand for it. He had already asked him to get rid of Kayla but he had refused. He didn't know what else he could do.

The day for the frat party rolled around and Luca tried to calm his apprehension. Derrick was going to see him with Kayla for the first time and the thought of that was enough to make his heart pound inside his chest. After dressing up, he looked at himself in the mirror. It has been a while since he last looked at himself in a mirror but he was surprisingly nervous about his date and he wanted to look good for her.
He was wearing jeans, sneakers and a black turtle neck sleeve. He looked good but then, he always looks good.
He took a jacket in case she was cold later on in the night and then he walked into his car.
He put the jacket on the back seat then he went to the driver's seat, opened the door and got in the car. He sat inside the car for a while; not moving, only breathing. He signed as he eventually turned the ignition and then drove away.
He was going to go to Kayla's house and pick her up for the party. He knew that Derrick would also be currently getting dressed for the party. Lucas wondered if he was bringing a girl this time. He always brought a different girl to each and every party they had.
It was a long drive to Kayla's house and to the party and so he had to leave quite early.
He texted Kayla when he was halfway through his journey
"Hey Kay, I'm on my way to pick you up. Can't wait to see you' and he sent a kissing face emoji.
He wondered what she would think about 'Kay'. He just wanted to stop calling her 'Kayla' like everyone else but he also couldn't call her 'Baby' or 'love' or anything so endearing because he was still afraid of where they stood. Actually, where he stood with her.
He knew he was only setting himself up for a painful heartbreak if he got too close to her and something happened to her or their relationship just didn't work out. He knew he was taking a very big risk on his heart but he loves her already and so it was a risk he was willing to take.
One thing he knew for sure though was that he was going to protect her with his life. He was going to do whatever it takes.
But then, would she still want to be with him if she knew what he was? Did she know that just yesterday night at the full moon, he had transformed into a ferocious breast and feasted on raw bloody meat?
He was sure she would not be with him if she knew all this. After all, she was only a human.
Kayla replied Lucas text
'Alright, I'm getting ready. Can't wait to see you'
And then she sent him pictures of two different gowns. One was blue and short with thin hands and a flare.
The other was long and silver also with thin hands.
'make a choice for me' she texted
Lucas looked at the pictures. Both gowns were beautiful but he wouldn't mind seeing some legs and so he chose the short blue gown. Also, it would be easier to take off.
Now he couldn't stop imagining her in it.
