Chapter Ten

Annie straightened the borrowed shirt that Drake had brought her as she followed Candy.  Her nerves were frayed and she really didn’t want to go into the clinic.

Didn’t want to face the physical proof on the screen that she was pregnant.  The flutters and strange alien movements were enough for her.  The ultrasound that she had done over a month ago was more than enough proof for her.

Asking the pack’s doctor to keep her secret had been a gamble, it was one she was glad she had taken.

Beau’s response to her pregnancy hadn’t been a joyous thing.  Not that she had expected it to be.  He had never raised his hand to her, but when she had told him it was the first time she had been afraid that he might strike her.

Sure, he had been rough with her.  At that moment though as they had walked up the stairs in the pack house she had a sudden fear that he was going to push her down them.  Beau hadn’t brought up Abby in a few weeks and for a moment she had thought that maybe this would make him feel something for her.

Something deeper besides the fact that he wanted her because she looked like Abby.

“It’ll be okay.”  Candy said, pulling her from her thoughts.

“I know, it’s just,” Annie paused, looking down towards her swollen belly.  “I’m just nervous.”  Candy stopped and turned to look at Annie, her warm fingers tangling with her mate’s as she came to a stop.

“I’m here, we’ll figure things out together.”  Candy said softly as she gave Annie a comforting smile, tucking a lock of dark red hair behind her delicate ear.

Annie leaned into the touch as Candy trailed her fingers over her cheek.  Cupping Annie’s cheek tenderly, “I know, I’m just scared.  It makes it real, before it felt real, but now without the threat of Lilith taking one of them..”

Candy bit her lip as she watched Annie’s trail off, her thoughts clear on her face.

“You were afraid?”

“I felt like I couldn’t bond to them, I was.”  Annie bit out.  Unsure of how to tell Candy that she had been too afraid of what would happen with Lilith.  Of how Beau would use the babies to hurt her and her sister.  “I just, if I see them on the screen again it will make it real and I won’t be able to pretend anymore that it’s not happening.  I won’t be able to pretend that those kicks aren’t real.”

“Don’t know how you could before.  I promise that I’ll be here for you and for the twins.”  Candy said, resting her hand on her mate’s belly.

“Thank you, it just still feels so unreal.”  Annie bit her lower lip as she looked at Candy through her lashes.  “Meeting you.”

“I’m having the same feelings.”  Candy said, her cheeks heating up with twin pin pricks of red.  “We should get in there and get your paperwork started.”

“Okay.”  Annie nodded as they walked a little further down the hallway into a small makeshift waiting room.

Candy motioned for Annie to sit down as she walked over to a man sitting behind a desk loudly popping his gum with his head leaned back.  “Drew really?”

“Candy, come to play?” he said as he rolled his head to the side, shifting in his chair to look up at her.

“No, Drew.” Candy sighed as he dragged his long fingers through his bright blue locks.

“Oh, I smell drama.”  He said as he straightened his shoulders, his green eyes sparkling with excitement.

“Not your business, now print me some patient paperwork.”  Candy said as she leaned her hip against the desk.

“So I take it you won’t be visiting my room anymore?”  Drew’s lip twitched into a smirk as he shifted in his seat, reaching over to move the mouse.  His hands moved quickly as he got the necessary paperwork pulled up.  “Or maybe, I should say you’ll be bringing an extra?”

“No, I won’t be.”  Candy growled, her eyes flashing  to that of her wolf’s.

“Oh, oh really?”  Drew asked, his eyes widening?  “Didn’t mean to overstep.  You found your mate?”

“I did.”  Candy said, grabbing the pages that the printer had just spit out.

“Congratulations, I mean it, I’ll miss the mutual satisfaction.  It’ll be solo-self loving for me for a while.  I get it though.”  Drew whispered as he looked from Candy to her mate, his tone changing as she slid the paperwork onto a clipboard.

“Thank you.”  Candy said dipping her head as she grabbed a pen off his desk and turned back to look at Annie.

Candy sat beside Annie as she handed her the clipboard, “Everything okay.”

“Yeah, are you guys friends?”  Annie asked as she pulled the pen out from under the metal bracket and started filling out the paperwork.

“We are, Drew’s alright.”  Candy said with a shrug. How was she supposed to tell her mate that she and the man had satisfied each other’s urges?

With a shake of her head Candy, decided she wouldn’t bring it up unless Annie asked.  She turned to look at Annie as she bit the lid of the pen that she was using.

Candy’s eyes were glued to the way her straight teeth nibbled the pen lid as she read over the papers.  She squirmed in her seat, trying to fight down the desire she felt.

How was it that every little thing Annie did had her this ready and on edge?  She bit her lower lip, pressing her legs together. It must be the mate pull that had her like this.  Her heart beat faster and she stifled down a groan as Annie leaned over slightly.  Candy caught the barest hints of her breasts through the gaping fabric of her shirt.

Couldn’t her wolf see that they had to wait?  At least the wolf could give her a little longer, to make sure that the babies would be safe.

Drew chuckled from the corner of the room as he leaned his elbows onto the desk and Annie shot him a glare.

“Are you okay?”  Annie asked.

“Yeah, it’s just hot in here.”  Candy said, trying not to blush as her mate looked over at her.  Moon Goddess, she had never felt this way around Eli or anyone else for that matter.  It was like her skin was on fire. She moved her hands to the armrests.  Digging her fingers into the soft leather as she moved to the edge of her seat.

How could anyone go in public feeling like this? Had it been like this for Drake when he met Abby or was it because she wasn’t an alpha.

Shaking her head, she let out another long sigh. Maybe she could take a run later and that would help her and her wolf?

Her wolf who was currently trying to tell her that she needed to calm her mate.  Maybe there was something her mother could prescribe to her?

“Annie are you ready to see your baby?”  Doc asked as she pushed open the door and came into the waiting room.  She looked from Annie then over at Candy with a raised eyebrow as her nostrils flared and she took in the scent of their coupling from the night before.

Well, this was one way to tell her mother, she knew it would happen sooner or later.  Candy just hoped her mother would accept Annie and she wouldn’t shun her only daughter for having a mate who was the same gender.
