Chapter Twenty-Eight

Annie gasped as her vaginal walls fluttered around Candy’s fingers. She could feel her mate’s teeth in her skin. For some reason, it felt right as the swirl of emotions moved through her.

Candy leaned back to look at her with blood stained lips and wide eyes.

Annie pressed herself forward, digging blunt teeth into Candy’s neck, marking her in the same way.

The moan that filled her ears made her feel powerful, and the heat that she felt earlier seemed to intensify as the bond strengthened.

Concentrating on Annie’s hip. She pulled away from Candy, letting out a groan of pain.

“Annie?” Candy asked as she pulled her hand back, her other hand coming up to smooth the hair away from her mate’s face as she studied her with worried eyes.

Annie could feel something moving through her and didn’t understand what it was. What was happening to her? “Candy, something’s wrong.”

“I’m sorry,” Candy said, moving her hand to Annie’s stomach. “Is it the babies, I didn’t mean to-”

“No, I don’t know what’s going on.” She whimpered as sweat started to coat her brow. She fisted her hands in the sheets, trying to fight down a scream.

“I’ll go get my mom.” Candy said, moving to stand.

“No, don’t leave me.” Annie cried out as the pain grew worse, pinpricks of heat moving over the skin of her hip.

“If something’s wrong I need to get my mom, she’ll know what to do, or Drake.” Candy said, pushing herself to sit up she pulled Annie’s shirt down, her hands moving over her hips. “You’re burning up.”

“I feel like I’m on fire.” Annie said through clenched teeth, her breath coming out in short pants as her skin went pale.

Candy moved to the dresser, grabbing her phone from her bag. Swiping the screen until she found the contact for her mother.

“Mom, something’s wrong with Annie-”

The words were barely out of Candy’s mouth before her mother spoke. “What happened?”

“I marked her.” Candy whispered.

“I’ll be there soon.”

The line went dead and Candy sat her phone to the side as she moved closer to Annie. Guilt swarming her as she realized it was her fault that her mate was hurting.

“Stop it,” Annie said through clenched teeth, Candy laid down beside her mate. Trying to offer her comfort anyway she could.

“What if-”

“I did it too, it was right.” Annie panted as her body started to relax, the heat letting up some.

“I should have-”

“Candy,” Annie said, moving her hand to Candy’s cheek as she tried to calm her racing heart. “I’m okay.”

Candy frowned, she could hear the exhaustion creeping into Annie’s voice. Could see it on her sweat drenched face. She knew that she should be the one comforting her mate, but here she was taking comfort in Annie.

“Just rest, my mom will be here soon.” Candy said, kissing Annie’s palm before she curled her body around her mate’s. Enjoying the feel of the new bond between them.

She could understand what the big deal was now. This feeling of being complete, feeling loved without words. Closing her eyes, she poured in her love for Annie, for the babies.

The soft gasp that met her ears made it worth it as she felt the feeling flowing back to her from Annie.

She hoped it would always be like this, well. Without the panic, resting a hand on Annie’s stomach, she could feel the push of a small foot. The babies were okay. She felt it inside of her as if they were her own.

The gentle knock made Candy jump and Annie opened her eyes.

“Come in,” she looked back at Annie, who was trying to lean over to pull the sheet over her legs.

“It’s just my mom.”

“All the more reason for me to be covered, so it doesn’t look like we were-”

“Like we were having sex?” Candy asked with a giggle. “She’ll already be able to tell by smell alone, trust me, she won’t care.”

“Yes I will, well not about the sex. That’s expected, I want Annie to be comfortable.” Doc said as she opened the door and stepped into the room, wrinkling her nose.

“Mom.” Candy said as she pushed herself to sit up beside Annie.

“You claimed her?”

Even though it was spoken like a question, Candy knew it was a statement. Nodding her head as she tucked a strand of pink hair behind her ear, she looked up at her mother.

“I tried to hold back,” she whispered, “I didn’t mean to hurt her.”

Doc moved to the edge of the bed, checking on Annie. Her skin was feverishly warm to the touch and her eyes were glassy.

“How are you feeling?” Doc asked pressing her lips together as she brought her hands to Annie’s wrist checking her pulse.

“Hot, it was like my skin was on fire.”

“Localized spot or all over?” She asked as she moved her hands to Annie’s stomach, pulling out the small monitor to check the babies’ heartbeats.

“It was all over, but now it’s on my hip.” Annie said.

Doc pulled her shirt up, her eyes moving along Annie’s skin. Before darting back up to her face.

“I don’t understand.”
