Chapter Fifty-Four
Annie let out a gasp as she brought her hand up to her mouth, her eyes wide.
“She’s healing, slowly. I don’t know how she survived it.” Doc said as she finished hooking up the IV. Already Amelia’s skin was healing. Annie looked at the sinew man as he pushed his thick auburn hair over his shoulder. He stood beside her sister’s unconscious form. His eyes red-rimmed as his fingers hovered over her hand as if he were scared to touch her.
“Drake know you’re here?” Doc asked and he looked up at her. “Or is that a question I should leave alone?”
Sin didn’t say anything as he let out a shuddering breath.
“He won’t hurt anyone here.” Stolas said, moving closer to his brethren.
Doc looked at him, her eyebrows raised as she pressed her lips together. Nostrils flaring as she breathed in deeply. “Candy, grab me some gauze and antiseptic.”
Candy moved to the cabinet, pulling it open. The wood making a loud click as the door hit the wall. She grabbed rolls of gauze and antiseptic as her mother moved around Amelia, assessing the damage.
“This is dragon’s fire,” Doc said as she grabbed her scissors, trimming off the tatters of what little clothing. What little remained, “How did you survive this, you poor girl?”
Candy pulled a tray over setting out the supplies for her mother, “I think it had something to do with Annie.”
“And Abby,” Annie said, snapping out of her daze. She moved closer, “That’s what it was, wasn’t it?”
Sin’s head shot up as his eyes met hers. “Yeah, you both kept her alive. Thank you, if you’d fought it. I, I don’t like to think of what would have happened to her.”
A roar shook the walls and Annie’s eyes widened as she clutched Stolas’ free hand, pressing herself against.
“What happened?” Stolas asked as he rested a hand on Sin’s shoulder, trying to share his strength with his friend.
“Dragons, the council of elders.” Sin said, his voice low as he bit his lower lip, his chest shaking. Annie didn’t know what to do as she watched them. She wished that Abby was here. She was better at reading situations like this.
“It’ll be okay, Sin.” Stolas said, he looked over at Annie. “She’ll heal.”
Annie had the feeling that he wasn’t just trying to comfort Sin. She wasn’t sure what she was supposed to do, how she could help her sister. She was glad that Candy and Doc were here as they moved about Amelia wiping her skin down with the sharp smelling liquid.
Pulling her hand from Stolas’ she stepped closer to the bed. Annie felt like she should touch her sister, she just didn’t want to hurt her worse.
“Do it.” Sin said, staring her down.
Doc let out a growl as she looked between the two of them. Candy grabbed her hand and she looked back at her daughter as she shook her head. Her eyes moved to Stolas and then back to her mother’s.
“No, wait. You don’t know what it will do to the babies.” Stolas said, placing his hand on Annie’s arm.
Sin’s eyes flickered to her stomach and he looked away, “I’m sorry, I wasn’t thinking.”
Stolas took her hand in his and kissed her knuckles, “Wait for Abby.”
“I promised to protect her.”
“She’s alive.” Candy said as she started opening up the packages of gauze.
There was a knock on the door as Dev stepped into the room, a lean blonde haired man following him, his chest and shoulders covered with thin scars. Pants hung low on his hips, his feet making the barest of sounds on the tiled floor as he walked closer to Amelia and Sin. Annie watched him fall to his knees, resting his head beside her hand.
“Louis was outside, Drake forced his shift.” Dev said as he shifted from foot to foot. Looking between Annie and Stolas and then to Sin and Louis. Before he looked at Amelia, then back to Sin. The pack house seemed to be becoming a meeting place for demons, and he didn’t like that.
Sin’s eyes met his and he gave him a nod of thanks. He looked towards the doorway as a woman peeked around the door frame. She looked towards Dev and then the others.
Her eyes widened and she backed away a half step. Her hair falling over her face like a curtain. Dev stepped in front of her. Even without the bond, he could feel her panic.
“Anna.” Sin whispered, taking a half step forward.
Dev turned to look back at her as she tucked in her shoulders. Her eyes went blank as she closed herself off, ready for Nash.
Sin looked at Dev, his brows knitting together as he looked between the two of them. “You’ve kidnapped her?”
“I like to think of it as a rescue.” Dev said, his hands clenching up at his sides as he readied himself to protect his mate.
Sin held up his hands, “Relax, I was bound to him too. I’m free now, but you’re in danger and you don’t even know it.”
“What do you mean?” Dev asked, backing up a half step. Feeling the warmth of her body as he looked back at her. He had a name for her now, Anna. It fit, simple yet beautiful.
“Nash doesn’t like to let his toys go until he’s done with them.” Sin said, resting a hand on Louis’ shoulder with a frown. “He’ll hunt you down.”
“What do you suggest I do?”
“Run, run far and fast.” Sin said, and Dev nodded his head. Backing up closer to the door, he grabbed Anna’s hand, pulling her from the room.
