Chapter Twelve
Stolas looked away from the game that he and Sam were playing. His friend was being quieter than normal.
“What happened with the wolves and the vampire?” Stolas asked, looking back at the screen.
“They wanted time with her.” Sam said with a frown as he watched the character toss a grenade with a smile. He needed this kind of destruction to pull his mind away from her face.
Lilith had looked so betrayed as he had placed a hand on her shoulder and one on her chin.
“So do you.”
“All I’ve got is time, they don’t. Well, the half-breed does.” He said, his lip curling in disgust. “I’ll get her to myself soon enough.”
“How will you manage with the others?” Stolas said, watching the screen turn red as his character died.
“I’ll figure it out.” Shrugging, Sam stood, “You want a drink?”
“Sure.” Stolas said as he leaned back looking at the screen, his phone let out a loud shrill ring. Leaning forward, he grabbed it off the table, the two men meeting each other’s gaze. He didn’t need to look at the screen to know who the caller was. They both felt it. He swiped the call and then pressed the speaker button to include Sam in on the conversation.
“Hello.”
“Hello, brother.” The other voice on the line said, and he couldn’t help but shiver at the other demon’s power.
“Sin, nice to hear from you. Could you stop with that?”
“Sure, I felt something off. Is everything okay with you and the golden child?” He asked, and even through his teasing tone, both men could hear the worry.
“Don’t call me that. I’m not his favorite anymore.”
“He had to put her down for the time being.” Stolas said, speaking over Sam.
“Low blow man, what happened?” Sin asked and Stolas looked over at Sam waiting for him to say anything.
“She was threatening his…” Stolas pause, not knowing what to call Abby or Annie. He knew his friend hadn’t done it for Annie, he was glad he had. He didn’t like the thought of Lilith hurting Annie or the child.
“My human. She was threatening my human.”
“Your,” Sin paused for a long time, “Your human?”
“Yes, it’s that simple. She’s mine.” Sam said, handing a beer to Stolas as he flopped down onto the couch and picked up his controller.
“You’ve fallen in love?” Sin said, and Stolas smiled. He could hear the wonder in the other man’s voice.
“Not up for discussion.” Sam grumbled as he un-paused the game, not waiting for Stolas to join this time.
“I didn’t call just for that.”
“Are you okay, have you found a way to break it?” Stolas asked as he leaned forward. He had missed his brother, but the other man had been bound and they hadn’t been able to set him free and not risk his life.
“Maybe. I need some information on an unwoken succubus.”
“What, you’ve found one?” Sam asked, perking up.
“I have, just needing information on an Amelia Reiily.”
“The name is not one I’m familiar with.” Stolas said as he leaned back. “Are you sure that’s what she is?”
“Without a doubt, she belongs to a dragon. Well, two of them.” Sin said, and Stolas bit his lip, hoping it wasn’t like how Sin belonged to a dragon.
He wouldn’t wish that type of entrapment on anyone. “Any new leads on your enslavement?”
“I wish there was.”
“Maybe there is a way.” Sam said, taking a long pull from his beer.
“What do you mean?” Sin asked, and Stolas couldn’t help but glance over at his friend.
“An unwoken succubus or even a young one is a powerful thing, remember how you were when yours woke.” Sam sat the controller down, “We could feed off your energy for days.”
“I’ve got an idea. She’s like me.” Sin said, his voice a rolling purr as the line went dead.
“Sounds like Sin has a budding plan, hope it doesn’t get him killed.” Stolas said as he tossed his phone onto the coffee table.
“Do you think that she’ll forgive me? I mean, I don’t want her to love me again. We were together for so long and I did care about her.” Sam finally said, dragging his long fingers through his hair as he looked at Stolas.
“I could say yes, but we both know that would be a lie. Even if she did, the cost would be Abby.”
“That’s a price I won’t ever pay.” Sam said with a growl.
“Good, I didn’t want to have to bind you too.” Stolas took a sip of his beer and set the bottle down picking up his controller.
“Glad to have a friend like you.” Rolling his eyes as he leaned back against the couch, Sam watched as Stolas picked another game. “Zombies again, you know they freak me out.”
“Yes, it would do us both good to kill things.” Stolas said as he scrolled through the weapons.
“Want to talk about the pretty little wolf and her mate?” Sam teased with a smirk.
“Nothing to talk about yet, I’ll let you know when there is.” His reply was clipped, and Stolas hoped soon that would change. He was still trying to work out the best course of action.
“Won’t be anything to talk about if you don’t leave my apartment.”
“Are you telling me to leave?” Stolas asked with a raised eyebrow.
“I don’t need a babysitter.”
“Not babysitting you, my friend. Just waiting for my limited edition controller.”
“If that’s all you wanted you should have just said so, I plan to drink til Abby falls to sleep.” Sam said moving to stand, he walked over to a shelf and opened a drawer. “I guess this is yours until we trade again.”
Walking over Stolas took in the brightly colored green controller with a smile. “She’ll go nicely with my Xbox.”
“Why you don’t upgrade, I’ll never understand.” Sam said as he handed the controller over to Stolas.
“I enjoy the classics.”
“Why don’t you invite your girls over for a night of GTA? Maybe it could lead to more.” Sam said, waggling his eyebrows as he gave the other man a tilted smile.
“Unlike you, I plan to take my time courting Annie and Candy.” Stolas said with a slight smile as he walked over to his duffel bag. Placing the controller inside. “I want them to be together first before I court them.”
