Chapter 89: The Fernando Bros. & Emily Reyes
Marco Junior shook hands with the young man who had just introduced himself. There were very few men who could look Marco Junior in the eyes standing right in front of him. "Nice to meet you, Danny Robert. I'm Marco..."
"You too, Marco. So, where are you from?"
"I am..."
"Excuse me."
Danny Robert turned his eyes to the pretty woman who approached Marco Junior. The light in her eyes said she was the girl he was going to get a drink to, but ended up talking to Marco.
"Sorry, Chocolate. I got caught up in the moment." Marco handed her the drink he got from her.
Hershey sighed, "Can we go baby?"
"We're only here for an hour Chocolate." Marco pointed out.
"I know, I just want too..." Hershey's voice trailed off as she glanced at the man she was talking to.
"How did you get here so fast, and why are you dressed differently?"
James frowned, "What?"
"Marc, this is the bone head I was just talking to in the other room," Hershey reported.
Marco shook his head, "No, we've been talking about this for at least ten minutes, Chocolate."
Hershey shook her head, "No, he's the guy that tried to hit on me."
The man laughed. Hershey smiled at him. How could he be so grumpy? Rude. "Ah, you're talking about John Philip? My brother."
"You're Danny Robert." Turning to Marco, she whispered, "Baby, it's him. I promise."
"Yo, Danny Robert, are you ready to go?" Soon a man approached the small group and without seeing Marco or Hershey, he said, "Check it, Danny, I saw this chick right. Her body was banging, and she was a little cutie, so I asked her where she was from because she had this sexy ass accent, but she told me she had a man, so I asked her what was the harm in knowing and she told me that she knows what I want, so, she said I asked her what makes you say that, and I was spitting mad game at her. That corny shit is using and she said, I know what men want to. I thought to myself, I'm sure you do. She was sexy as hell, made me want to bang her and I'm going to drill her right away..."
"John Philip, you know there are people behind you, right?" Danny Robert said.
The guy who revealed his brother's height shrugged his shoulders, "So, what, this is my party, I'm the one throwing it, fuck who's ever behind me."
Hershey's voice grew louder in anger and she threw the cup full of it at the back of his head.
The man turned around, "Aww, now who ever the fuck.." He stepped back as his face pressed against hers. Hershey glared at him.
He smiled, "You needed to get my attention that bad huh?"
Marco Junior who was standing there not knowing whether to be angry or just laugh watched this scene.
"You're crazy, you know that?" Hershey growled out.
"You look sexy when you do that." He gave a dimpled smile. If looks were deceiving, you'd think he just said the nicest thing to her.
Hershey's eyes narrowed, "Do I? How about when I say you're an egotistical bastard that has to use your brother lines just to get a lay, how about that?"
The man approached her. "I don't know what you're bitter about, you should be happy that somebody gravitated at you' fat ass."
Hershey's jaw dropped. He couldn't believe how much personality this man had. "Fat ass? You just mad because you cannot get none with your scrawny thimble weed ass."
Marco looked at Hershey who wasn't sure she heard that.
"You must be from a squatter area talking like that."
Hershey felt her temperature rise, she wanted to punch that smile off his face. "Boy please, I didn't grow up in squatter. Where I come from if you want to act shit I can get shit. It's your kind I'm not afraid of, cause it's all for show."
After a while the voice on his cheek was noticeable. "Please bitch..."
Marco, who was surprised, immediately stepped in, "Look man, don't call my girl no bitch. That's one thing I won't allow."
Danny's eyes widened at Marco. "What the hell you want to do wonder bread?" The man immediately raised his fist.
"Call her a bitch and I'll throw you out."
The man imitated Marco. He looked at Hershey, he laughed, "Oh, shit, you got a country white boy!" With that, he laughed.
Hershey, having had enough, reached out and slapped John Philip so hard that his face turned to the left. This caused those in the kitchen to stop what they were doing and watch.
John Philip was quick to retaliate, turning his body to hit Hershey. In mid-air, his brother's hand grabbed his hand, "Look, John Philip, you deserved that."
John Philip, who was very angry, his whole face was red, and he shouted in a hot tone, "No, Danny, don't do that. I didn't hit that shitty dog he was brave enough to step up to do that to me."
Danny Robert grabbed his wrist, "You had enough nerve talking to her like that. She didn't say anything that you didn't bring on, and then you insult her man. That's bullshit and you know it."
John Philip's eyes warmed to Marco, "What she thinks, she is the shit now because she got wonder bread here? She must be ugly."
Danny Robert stepped in between the two. Speaking to his brother in a low tone, he whispered, "Look, bro, John Philip we have to go for a walk."
"No, brother, they have to leave here. Her and wonder bread. This is my spot. This is my party and I am the son of a Billionaire!"
"If that's what you want, go ahead."
"Hell yeah, that's what I want, now get them out." John Philip said, his tone hysterical. Danny Robert, still not letting go of his brother's hand, turned to Marco Junior and Hershey, "I'll see you on campus or something."
Marco Junior took Hershey's hand, "Alright."
Hershey took one last look at John Philip before she allowed Marco to escort her out of the party.
Marco Junior took a blanket from outside the car after they parked in a parking space in Manila Bay. Hershey allowed him to wrap it around his cold shoulder as they walked along the seawall. "I can't believe you slapped him."
"I can't believe you let him say all that." Hershey cut in, her tone irritated.
"What do you mean?"
"You stood there while he said all those things about me, talked like I was a piece of meat or something."
"I'm sorry about that."
"You weren't like that before, Marc. You never allowed anybody to talk to me like I was crap." Hershey stated, voice shaking.
"I don't know what to say, exactly." Marco said.
"How is that, Marc? You didn't let our classmate insult me in high school and now we're in college and you let anyone say those things."
"Look, I'm sorry. I'm not used to just jumping on guys because they talk like that," Marc said.
Hershey stopped, "Then why did you fight with our classmate then? Why did you punch him? Was I more important to you then?"
Marco Junior stared into hurt brown eyes, "No, Chocolate, I was stupid back then, okay. I was really sensitive."
Hershey closed her eyes, feeling her heart break.
"What makes you less sensitive now?" Marco swallowed, "I can control my emotions now, not like before."
"Whatever." She stated, pulling the blanket around her.
"Hershey, come on baby, don't be like that. You know I love you."
Hershey's jaw tightened and she swallowed, "I want to go home."
"Hershey." He said firmly.
Hershey turned and started walking. Marco grabbed her by the shoulders, pulling her towards him, "Look, I'm sorry I didn't jump in when you thought I should too, but I'm older, Hershey. I know my fists can't solve everything. I can be angry, but fighting can't solve everything."
Hershey tried to pull away, tears welling up in her eyes, "Whatever. I don't care Marc. I don't care."
Marco Junior sighed and hugged her tighter. He turned his body he stared into her eyes, watching the tears fall down her face.
"I'm sorry baby. It doesn't mean that I don't love you as much as I used to love you, it's just that I didn't go around being pissed off because they said things I didn't like."
"Marco, he was talking about me in such a vulgar manner. I didn't do anything to him, I just told him that I have a boyfriend. He kept trying to get further."
"I know baby, but I also know that men think and say things like that from time to time. I know I've thought the same thing a time or two."
Hershey frowned. "What?"
Marco narrowed his eyes, "You're so sexy Chocolate and sometimes I just want to bend over and..."
This caused anxiety in her heart. Why did it feel different when the man said that? Why do I prefer what Marc said? Sighing, she pulled Marco's face down and pressed his lips to hers, though, it didn't make any sense to her, but it made her feel even better to know that he thought the same.
Breaking the kiss, Marco whispered, "Nice."
Hershey wiped her eyes. She whispered, "Why do I like it when you say it? Why can't I accept it when someone else says it?"
Marco gave a monstrous laugh, teasing, with a hint of truth, he said, "Because you belong to me."
Hershey laughed, "Me too, right?"
Marco reached out and caressed her face, "Yeah, that's the way it goes. You're mine."
Hershey sighed, "I love that."
Marco strung his fingers through hers, "I see I'm not the only one who has changed."
"Come on, Marc, I have two years to decide if I want to be yours or not."
"Do you have any now?"
"Yes. Two years of disappointment, tears, heartache, longing and missing the man I love. Don't you think that's enough time?"
Marco sighed, "I suppose, but when we were in high school, I thought you'd never allow that, let alone say it."
Hershey pulled his hand, "Permit it? You're right. Naturally I wouldn't, but love's different. Real love makes you do things you wouldn't normally do."
"Looks like someone gained wisdom over time," Marco said.
Hershey swallowed, "Yeah, it's from all those conversations with Tyler."
Marco laughed, "I bet, Tyler the wise one."
"Tyler is the wise, the brave, the wise still."
"When did Tyler get so brave?" Marco asked.
"He's always backing away from me." Hershey smiled, "He took that punch you gave him for me."
Marco laughed, "Yes, I thought he was your boyfriend?"
"Yes." Hershey laughed, "What makes it funnier is that you knew he was gay the whole time."
Marco shrugged, fingers clenched. "Chocolate, you have no idea what you have on me."
Hershey sighed, "Is that a fact?"
"I don't believe it's possible for me to love another woman as much as I love you."
Hershey licked her lips. "Are you serious?"
Marco brought his hand to her mouth, kissing the brown skin. "Since when did you know me to play games?"
Hershey swallowed her heart seemed to be tripping on itself, "Never."
"Alright, so you know that my heart is undeniably yours. How could it not be? All the hell you and I put each other through."
Hershey sighed, "Maybe this time, our relationship will be normal."
After a while, Marc's phone rang in his pocket. He stopped walking and pulled her out.
Holding it in the moonlight, he saw that it was Emily Reyes. As soon as he saw her name he felt sick to his stomach. He let go of Hershey's hand, "I will be right back, okay?"
Hershey looked at him. "Is there a problem?"
Marco Junior sighed, "No, just my grandfather."
He felt weird lying to her, but he knew he had, to protect her.
"At this time of night?" Hershey whispered.
It was around one in the morning. Marc shrugged,
Hershey nodded, "Oh, okay, I get it."
Marco opened the phone. "Yeah, we're like eight hours behind them."
Hershey nodded. "Okay."
With that, he made his way to the shore. Marco moved away from the shore and turned to her, whispering, "What the hell do you want Emily?"
A laugh came from the other end, "How sweet, you're even lying to her on my behalf. I knew you loved me."
"What do you want?"
"I just want to say goodnight, and let you know I'm going to bed."
"I don't give a crap where you're going. Why are you still calling me?"
"Come on, baby, why do you have to be like this? You know you still love me."
"I don't love you. I told you back in Shanghai that I didn't want to be with you."
Emily Reyes laughed, "I know you said that, but you didn't mean it."
"I'm serious Emily. Leave me alone, call my phone again, I'm calling the police to file a harassment suit against you."
Emily laughed, "How can you do that? I didn't say anything to harm you or anything like that."
Marco's jaw tightened in irritation. She was right, she didn't say anything horrible to him that would land him a harassment charge, or a restraining order. "I love you, Marco Fernando."
Marco felt the aggravation push itself into a fiery ball. "I don't love you, and don't call my phone ever again, I mean it."
"What are you are going to do, Marc? You can't file a lawsuit or what I'm already in the Philippines."
Marco growled, "I can change my phone number!" He yelled, feeling his nerves tickle.
Emily laughed, "I will always be able to locate you baby and I have money for it."
"Stop calling my damn phone, now!" He shouted, closing the lid tightly and putting it back in his pocket. He let out a loud sigh and closed his eyes for a moment to catch his breath. After a minute or two, he came down to where Hershey was and returned her hands to him. He puts his feet in the water rolling in the waves on the beach.
"You ready to go?" He asked weakly.
Hershey sighed, bringing her body closer to him and resting her head on his shoulder. "I love you, Marc."
He smiled and bent down to kiss the top of her head, "I love you too my chocolate butterfly."
Hershey sighed and whispered, "Do you really?"
Marco grabbed her shoulder, pulling her closer to him, "With all my heart, baby."
Hershey sighed and tried to shake off the feeling that something was wrong. She knew that his grandfather lived in Shanghai. He probably doesn't remember telling her that he disappeared when he was there. Although she remembered, she didn't want to think about the possibility that he was lying to her and that he was talking to another girl.
She has spent too much time over the years thinking about what would have happened if she had gotten a second chance. She swore to herself that she would never let her doubts happen again. She knows she loves him. She knows it. But why does something seem wrong? Why did he lie to her? Why? As she thought about it, her heart beat faster and she held Marco's hand tightly, tighter than ever.
