Chapter 36
All day we have been on the road getting closer and closer to Aiden. It’s becoming quite irritating that we have to stop constantly to make sure we are still on his trail and stop in many pack territories. All packs that are in our path are on high alert because a black wolf trespassed on their lands. Not knowing if they are friend or foe, has caused panic and security to be heightened. Some packs even wanted to formally questioned us, so that put a stake in our time.
It is now growing dark once again and we pull into a small motel that is located In mid Virginia. Luckily, there is a large and thick wood behind it so I can go for a late night run. Blanche has been itching to get out but there hasn’t been a moment she could.
Something has also been on my mind. Silas is able to call upon his dark and majestic wings in human form. Maybe he could teach me how to utilize mine. After my run I will ask him about it.
We go to check in and it is not nearly as bad as the last place. The place is ran by a nice old man and cleaned by his sweet little wife. We check into 3 separate rooms that are available and go to drop off my stuff before going on a run.
Silas and I open the door to our cozy small room. For a motel, its quite nice. Usually they are run down, not so clean, and infested with bed bugs. However this one is beautifully furnished, clean, and the whole room smells like freshly cleaned sheets.
I put my duffle bag in a corner and turn to head to the door.
“Where are you heading?” He asks in interest. I slightly turn to him and his brows are raised in curiosity.
“For a quick run. Blanche has been restless lately.” I place a hand on the door knob and call over my shoulder. “Care to join me?”
“Like you have to ask.” He chuckles and follows behind me.
We walk side by side behind the motel and walk into the tree-line of the thick and wooded forest. The earthy scents fill my senses and brings me a sort of nostalgia. We haven’t been gone long, but I miss home. I can’t wait till all this craziness is settled and go home.
I leave his side and go behind a tree and start to take my cloths off. Strictly so he wont lose control again. His wolf is so adamant about marking and mating. Ill admit, so is Blanche, but she respects my space and choice to somewhat wait. However she never fails to let me know she is irritated when I turn away from him.
Silas does the same and I shift into my beautiful wolf. I can feel her excitement and nearly clawing to get out. After each bone breaks and grows I make my way over to Silas and see he is already shifted and waiting for me. His large wolf is standing tall and the moon light is glistening off his fur. Making him look like an extension of the star filled midnight sky. His large wings are unfurled and compliment his dark fur, making him look like a dark angel. Ha, the irony.
He jerks his head for me to follow and he takes off running. I allow Blanche to take control and she begins to race after him. We grow faster and faster until trees are whipping past us and animals are fleeing to the sight of large wolves on their territory. We come up on a clearing and we use our powerful wings to take off into the night sky. Blanche looks up to the glorious full moon above and lets out a howl that can be heard by all creatures in the area.
When Blanche gets her fill of freedom I resume control and we return to the spot we left our cloths. I land and shift back into my human form. I pull on my undergarments, shirt, and jeans and return to his side.
“Could you teach me how to utilize my wings in human form? Since we both have similar wings, maybe I can use them too.” I ask as I approach him. He pulls up a shirt and looks at me curiously.
“Of course, Angel. We can give it a shot.” He takes my hand and leads me back into the woods. “But first we need a nice open area.”
He leads me back to the clearing where we took off since we ran through here the area is quiet. No animals dare to come out. The only sound that fills my ears is the light summer breeze and my mates deep voice.
“First things first, shirt off. Or your wings will rip it right off your back.” He says in a rather coaching voice. “I told my wolf to behave himself so you have nothing to worry about.”
I reach from my shirt and slowly pull it off. As im about to pull it over my head I can hear his breath get caught in his throat. Seeing as he didn’t jump my bones yet, his wolf cooperating.
“When you want to bring out one aspect of your wolf its like a half transformation. You slightly transform but not fully. In order to do this you need to focus on the one quality you want to add to your human self.” He says and walks up behind me. “Close your eyes.”
I do as he says and I can feel his warm breath on my shoulder.
“You need to picture yourself with those beautiful wings. You need to focus on every detail of it. For instance where will they be placed on your flawless body.” He drags his fingers across my upper back near my shoulder blade. “You need to focus on every single soft feather they have to offer. Focus on their pure white color, their vastness, largeness, and every aspect of their flawless beauty.”
I do exactly as he says and I can clearly picture it in my mind. My wolf and I becoming one being. However him touching my body is distracting me.
“Now, shift with those thoughts in mind instead of your full wolf.” I hear him back away and I phase.
Instead of every bone breath I can feel pain in my upper back. However that is not the only pain im feeling. I can feel a burning sensation on my forehead. As if something is searing onto my skin. I scream and groan in agony but its not nearly as bad as my first transformation. I can feel something painfully growing and becoming an extension on myself. Im doing it. Im really doing it!
“Keep going, Angel! You almost got it!” I hear Silas shout from behind me.
“You got this Athena, keep those images in your head!” Even my wolf is cheering me on.
Then finally the pain subsides and I can feel a heavy weight behind me. My wolfs wings fall to my sides and I kneel to catch my breath. I stand and I raise my wings. I look up and seeing them with my human eyes is so different than in wolf form. I stare at them in awe.
I turn to my mate and he gets sight of my face and his eyes bulge out of his head. Is there something on my face. He hurriedly whips his phone out and holds the camera facing me. My breath gets caught in my throat.
On my forehead and trickling down my temples is a radiant sapphire mark. That looks similar to Silas’s. A crescent moon lies in the center of my forehead and decorating it looks like two wolves howling to it along with swirls and stars making it look like a sort of tiara. The moon light also seems to reflect from it and it shines in magnificent beauty.
“What in the world does this mean?” I manage to say through my shock. “What is the history behind your mark?” He shakes of his shock and focuses.
“Im assuming you know the history how werewolves came into existence.” I nod and he continues. “My pack are direct descendants of King Lycaon. Our line has not mixed with humans over the years. In a way we are like pure blooded werewolves, but that’s the only line of werewolves that are known to history. How could you have a mark like mine? Your not a Lunar wolf.”
“I have no idea.” I say breathlessly.
“Blanche, do you know?” I ask in my head but she doesn’t respond. “You do know. Tell me!”
“Im sorry Athena, the Mother has forbidden me to tell you. She wants you to figure it out on your own.” She says without emotion.
“Why?!”
“I do not know. Im assuming it’s a sort of test, but know you have unlocked something no other white wolf has been able to do. You are even more powerful and special now, and destined for something great.” She says before retreating to the recesses of my mind. More powerful? Goddess! As if I don’t have enough pressure already!
“Maybe my mother can shed some light on this when we return.” I sigh and look back to my wings. I raise them up and Silas gazes at them.
“Now take off and feel the difference in using them in your human form.” He says and yanks off his shirt.
He calls on his own wings and he takes my hand. We both take off into the sky. He’s right its completely different. I feel lighter and faster.
Silas notices my surprise and he chuckles. We stop in mid air and I can feel the night air coursing through my feathers. Silas traces his fingers along my newly formed mark and smiles.
“I like we have something in common now.” He says and places his lips tenderly on my forehead. I smile at his gesture. It’s like we are compliments of each other. I find that quite comforting.
When I finally have my fill of flying with my wings. He teaches me how to retract them which proved to be way easier than channeling them. I thought once I go back to complete human form the mark would disappear, but instead it remained.
We are now heading back to the motel and find everyone outside laughing and playing some sort of drinking game. However it is interrupted when they see us approaching, and their welcoming faces turn into gawking ones when they see my face.
“Athena, what happened to your face?” Celeste gets up to look at me closer.
“Silas taught me how to channel my wolfs wings in human form and this came with it. I have no Idea what it means.” I say as she examines my face.
“It’s like his but blue and a different pattern. You are full of surprises girl.” She points towards my mate and sighs.
“I know and its becoming exhausting” I giggle nervously. “So what are you guys up to?”
“We’re playing never have I ever. Wanna join us?” Alaric offers and takes a drink from his opened beer.
“Why not?” My mate says and we take seats next to each other. Judging by Celestes evil grin, she’s got some good questioned lined up to target me.
