Chapter Twenty-Eight

She leaves and a nurse comes back with discharge papers and the ginger ale and crackers. I sign the paperwork and get off the table cleaning my stomach then put on my clothes and wait for the doctor to come with my prescriptions. Once she does we thank her again and we head to the car and to our home. He drives and I fall asleep. I was not kidding when I said that I was exhausted. The next time I wake up, I’m alone lying in bed and I sit up wondering where he has gone off to because he said he wasn’t going to work.
I get up to go to the bathroom and I realize that I am feeling so much better. When I’m finished I head to the kitchen but he isn’t there so I head for the living room and he isn’t there either, so where the hell is he? Why would he leave without letting me know? I decided to shrug it off because I was sleeping and he knew how exhausted I was so he didn’t want to disturb me. As I make my way back to our bedroom I hear a car in the driveway and I assume that it is him but when I open the door I see that it is Daniel. I wonder why he’s here because I don’t remember Jameson saying that he would be coming by today. Then again my brain is fried so I don’t know if he did or not at this point. I quickly close the door and go back to my room to grab my robe. I mean I wasn’t wearing a revealing nightgown but that still isn’t appropriate.
I get back to the front door just in time to hear him walking up the steps. I open the door before he rings the bell and let him inside.
“Hi Daniel. Jameson isn’t here and I have no idea where he has gone. I was sleeping and just woke up a few minutes before you got here. What’s up?”
“Actually I came to talk to you. I wanted to know where I should take Stephanie for a first date? We are going out for drinks on Friday but I think I should take her to dinner instead. What do you suggest?”
“Well I know that she loves Italian food so you could take her to an Italian restaurant. That way you can have food and drinks.”
“Thank you so much. That is a big help. I’m hoping that we hit it off. So far she is the kind of woman I’d love to be with but I’m all about taking it slow and seeing where things go.”
“That’s very good and I hope that you two work out. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way do you want to tell me the real reason you’re here?”
“I don’t know what you mean ma’am.”
“What I mean is that we could have had this conversation over the phone or through text messages but you drove across town to come and ask me where to take my friend out on a date? I’m not stupid or naive. I don’t know why I didn’t put it together sooner though. My loving boyfriend disappears while I’m asleep and you miraculously show up. He sent you here to watch me didn’t he? How much do you know and don’t lie.”
“Well he didn’t tell me anything specific but he did say that he had to go in to work for a little while and pick up your prescriptions and didn’t want you to be left alone. He said it was a medical thing and not serious but he still would rather have someone here with you.”
“I don’t know what I’m going to do with him. I cannot believe he did this, no I’m lying because this is so him. I don’t need a babysitter. Daniel can you pick out a movie to watch while I go take a quick shower? I’m feeling a little gross after today but I’ll be back quickly and help yourself to a snack and drink.”
“Okay and thank you ma’am.” I turn to leave when I think of something.
“If I wasn’t awake or didn’t hear the doorbell how were you going to get into the house?”
“Oh I’ve always had a spare key ma’am. I wouldn't have just let myself in without ringing the bell or knocking first. He told me that if you didn’t answer you were probably asleep and to let myself in and stay in the living room until you woke up or he came home, whichever comes first.”
“Oh okay. Thank you Daniel.”
“No problem ma’am.”
I head to the bathroom with my change of clothes and robe and lock the door, then I turn on the shower and take my clothes off then step inside under the water. As the water runs over my body I feel more relaxed. I love the shower heads in this bathroom. There’s one in the front and the back of the shower so when we do shower together neither of us are cold but there’s a massage pulse also on both of them and it feels absolutely amazing. There’s also a jacuzzi tub on the other side of the bathroom. I’m glad that the shower and tub aren’t combined.
After letting my muscles relax I grab my body wash and wash cloth and clean myself then I get out and dry off before changing into a pajama set and put on my robe. I pass by the wash room and drop off my dirty clothes then head to the kitchen and grab some juice before going to the living room. Daniel is sitting there watching Demolition Man on one end of the couch and I sit on the other end tucking my legs under me. I sip my juice and watch the movie. When it ends Jameson still isn’t home yet so we pick another movie to watch. The next movie he picks is Rambo and I get up to grab a blanket for myself.
“Daniel if you’re cold we can share the blanket.”
“I’m okay ma’am but thank you.”
I smile at him and the more that I get to know his friends, the more I see why they are all friends. They compliment each other’s personalities very well. I’m very glad that he has them in his life and now in mine. I wonder who he’ll pick to be the godfather. He’s close to all of them but I’m guessing that he’ll pick Daniel then again he may surprise me and pick Ethan or Micah. I have no idea who the godmother will be but we have time to deal with that later. Right now I just want to relax and adjust to the fact that I am in fact pregnant with our child. The thought alone is scary but not a bad scary. I’m feeling very excited now that the waiting to find out is over. I am a hundred percent pregnant and I have the sonogram to prove it. The more I think about it the more I feel myself smiling and getting happier.
In the middle of my inner thoughts, I notice that there is no sound coming from the television anymore so I turn to look at Daniel. He’s staring at me with a smile on his face.
“Why are you smiling at me?”
“Because I’ve been calling your name and you seem to be somewhere else. I was trying to tell you that Jameson texted me and said he is on his way back now with your medicine. Wherever you were you seemed mighty happy. Were you thinking of what the two of you are going to do the rest of the night?” He wiggles his eyebrows suggestively at me and I throw a pillow at him and burst out laughing. He catches the pillow and joins in the laughter.
“No actually I was thinking of something else. I’ve been thinking about marriage and starting a family with him a lot lately. I’m thinking about talking to him about it one day. I don’t mean that I’m ready to get married now because it has almost just been a year of dating but just a conversation I think couples should have to see where the two are headed. I mean I don’t want to want children but never get married just to find out that he does want to get married but doesn't want children after being together for six years. You know what I’m saying?”
“Yeah I get what you mean. It is better to know what everyone is expecting to happen in a relationship so nobody feels blindsided later. I do think that more couples should have those kinds of talks in the beginning so they don’t realize later that they’ve wasted each other’s time.”
“Okay enough about that stuff. I want to see Rambo kick some ass.” He laughs.
“I didn’t know you liked these kinds of movies. I think we’re going to be really good friends ma’am.”
“I love these movies and they belong to me. I brought my entire dvd collection when I moved. I think we are going to be really good friends too Daniel.”
We turn back to the television and would you believe that I fell asleep while watching. I can’t even remember the last thing I saw, but when I woke up I was in our bed and no longer had my pajamas on. I was naked under the covers and Jameson was lying next to me snoring softly. I sat up and kissed his cheek and he rolled over looking at me sleepily.
“Welcome home sleepyhead.”
“Thanks Doll. I put your medicine on your nightstand with a bottle of water. You’re to take one of each in the morning preferably with food. I missed you and I’m sorry for leaving but I had to go.”
“I understand baby and thank you for getting my medicine and for sending a babysitter though I didn’t need one. Now can you tell me why I’m naked?”
“Oh you started sweating in your sleep and I figured you were hot so I took them off of you and pulled the covers off to help you cool down but then you started shaking, so I just kept your clothes off and covered you. You seemed to do good for a while so I kept it like that then I took a shower and fell asleep.”
“Okay baby. I love you.”
“I love you too Doll.”
I lay back down and he does the same and soon we are both knocked out.
