Chapter Thirty-Nine

I’m sitting next to Alicia so I have a front row seat to this beautiful proposal and we’re all sitting there waiting on her answer. The ring that he picked out is absolutely gorgeous in a platinum setting with four baguettes, two on each side, with a diamond in the center. She’s taking so long to answer and I can see Micah starting to get nervous so I secretly nudge her in the back which must have brought her out of her trance-like state because then she stood up and shouted “Yes!” at the top of her lungs. We all jumped up and started clapping for them as he picked her up and spun her around before putting the ring on her finger.
I called the waiter over and told him to bring over two bottles of his best champagne and he smiled as he left to go get the bottles. I was so happy for my friends. They were getting married and possibly soon after they would start a family. Stephanie and Daniel could be next, who knows. I mean those two have been getting pretty close. He’s spending more nights at her house than at his own from what Alicia was telling me.
Suddenly I felt strong arms wrap around my waist and I leaned into his chest feeling safe and loved. There was no way that this man was cheating on me with that crazy woman. That’s just impossible. I mean he can’t make me feel this good if he’s cheating, right? I shake the thoughts out of my head and just focus on what’s going on in front of me. The champagne comes and we all get a glass then shout “CHEERS TO THE HAPPY COUPLE!” and take a sip. I have a few more glasses of champagne before Jameson tells me that I’ve had enough and orders me a cup of coffee to help sober me up. I don’t see why I need to be sober when he’s going to be driving and we’re going home after we leave here. He usually likes me tipsy when we make love. I drink the coffee when it comes and frowns because there’s no cream or sugar. Eww!
The other news that Micah had was that he was offered a permanent paralegal job after he’s done with his internship. That’s even more great news. I excuse myself from the table telling Jameson that I’m going to use the restroom and then I’d be ready to go home and he tells me to hurry back and kiss my cheek. I smile at him and quickly head to the restroom because after all that alcohol and the coffee, I really need to tinkle.
After I finish and I exit the stall to wash my hands someone taps me on the shoulder and when I look up, I see the person that just won’t go away and all I do is sigh and continue to wash my hands. Maybe if I just ignore her she’ll go away. Yeah right. I wish I was that lucky.
“So I see you’re all having quite the party.”
“What do you want? I mean besides a man that doesn’t want you.” I smirk at her and grab some paper towels to dry my hands.
“Oh but I’ve already had him. You’re the one trying to hold on to a man that doesn’t want you.”
“One date in college doesn’t qualify as having him. I’m the one that he’s lying next to in bed and making love to every night. As a matter of fact, when we go home in a few minutes, that’s exactly what we’ll be doing.” I pull my dress down so that the hickey on my neck will show.
“That may be, but I’m the one that he’s with when you think he’s at work.” I burst out laughing. She’s very delusional.
“I’d know if he missed work and I’d know if he was with another woman. You see, he has very loyal friends and if he does anything out of line, they have no problem checking him and making sure that he tells me because if he doesn’t, they will.”
“Yet you still tried to get pregnant to keep him and on top of that he’s still coming over to my place and making love to me.” That’s it. She’s crossing a line now. I walk up to her practically inches away from her face.
“You can say whatever you want to about me or Jameson but you will not speak about my baby. Do I make myself clear? This is your last warning.” I must have looked very scary because I saw her visibly shake and take a step back. I back away from her and start to head towards the door when she calls my name.
“I have proof if you want to see. I videotaped our last session together. That man of mine has amazing stamina.”
“I don’t have time for anymore of your lies. My man and our friends are waiting for me. You really should stay away from us because the next time I catch you near me, I will call the cops and have you arrested for violating a restraining order.” As I turn to walk out again, I hear other voices. Actually it sounds more like moaning and grunting noises, but that’s not what stops me and makes me turn around. One voice in particular stands out and I have to see it for myself. There on the screen is Jameson having sex with someone else. She claims that it is her but I can’t tell because the face of the woman is a bit distorted.
“I told you that I had proof. What’s the matter? Cat got your tongue? Where’s all the snide remarks now?” I pull out my phone and send a text message and in what seems like seconds, Stephanie and Alicia walk into the bathroom.
“Please do something with her before I kill her. Please!” I run out of the bathroom and back to the table where I grab my purse and tell everyone that I have to leave. Jameson gets up and I slap him hard across the face.
“I trusted you and you lied to me. I can’t believe that you’d do this to me. Don’t bother looking for me because I won’t be home by the time you get there. I hate you for doing this to me.” I burst into tears as I ran out of the restaurant and called a cab to pick me up then take me to the hotel I stayed in when I first came to visit. Once in my room, I strip and take a shower before climbing into bed naked since I didn’t bring any clothes and cry myself to sleep.
