New Job
A new day means a new me, I woke up in a great mood and ready to take on the day. I have already showered, pampered myself, and poured my morning coffee. It is bright and sunny outside, so I decided to dress up in something summery.
I neatly brushed my hair into a bun on top of my head, applied a natural face of makeup, and went with some pearl tears drop earrings. I was torn between two outfits, but I went with a red t-shirt dress with a jean vest and a pair of white sandals.
There was no dress code at work, so I had plenty of creative freedom. Jenny helped walk me through all the makeup that I bought yesterday. I was going in dressed to impress my way into a new department. A new beginning is exactly what I needed.
As I was on the elevator headed down, it stopped at floor 3. Cameron hopped on and smiled when he looked up and noticed me.
“Good morning beautiful.”, he opened with a compliment.
“Good morning, Cameron! Where are you headed this morning?”, I said with a blush.
“I am headed out for a run before work. I am a travel blogger. You should check out my Instagram.”, he looked scrumptious.
He was shirtless wearing a pair of shorts that hit about mid-thigh with calf-high socks and some Nikes. His body was shimmering and a lot more visually appealing than what he was wearing yesterday. He still looked younger than me, but I didn’t dare ask.
“Are you coming, Leah?”, he asked as I was the only one left on the elevator when it hit the ground floor.
“Oh, yes.”, I replied as I did a bouncing step.
“Well, I will see you around?”, he said as he started to job backward.
“Absolutely, tonight?”, I hope it was too eager.
“Sure.”, he smiled, nodded his head, and turned around to begin his run.
I hadn’t even got to work, and I need another shower already. How was he so good-looking and nice? That combination was hard to come by, but I was ready to explore that possibility.
I got to work, and people started to turn their heads whispering all around me. Something amusing was going on and I was the center of it. I stopped by the mirror in the hall outside of my office and I appeared to be fine.
My office was a total mess, someone had been in there rummaging through my things. I hear a knock on the door…
“Jared, Hi. Can I help you?”, surprised to see him.
“Wow, Leah.”, that wasn’t an answer.
“Either tell me how I can help you or see yourself to the door.”, even though he was my boss we had a history.
“You look…”, he paused as he eyed me up and down.
“Different. A good different.”, he admitted.
“I had a wonderful trip. It was exactly what I needed.”, I inserted my happiness.
“Oh yeah, where did you end up going?”, he asked.
“A sex resort with lots of nudity everywhere.”, figured it would blow his mind or he would think I was being sarcastic.
“No shit. That’s cool. Well, I just wanted to stop by to tell you that you look good today.”, he noticed I put effort into my appearance. Interesting.
“Thank you. Hey, can we talk about my next assignment? I don’t want to review food anymore. Can’t I do travel or politics?”, I asked since he was in a good mood.
“I have the perfect job for you. See me after lunch.”, he walked away closing the door.
I wanted to do a happy dance, but his smile as he walked away made me think I was being set up to take one of the back page articles that no one reads. One day I would be able to control my own department. Then I could write about whatever I wanted.
The rest of the morning went smoothly as I cleaned my office and got caught up on the work gossip at the coffee machine. Apparently, Jared and the office clerk broke up after two dates. Not that interesting, but the new job everyone is fighting for caught my attention.
Every woman in the office was clawing for the chance to get the new field position for a series of front-page articles. There are 5 hand-picked bachelors that work on the River Street Strip and the article will be a week in the life of. It was rare to get five back-to-back front-page articles.
Of course, this was their dream job, interview the man they want to be their future husband. I will let them fight this out, that is not a job that I want. I wanted to travel and explore the city, then write about that. Cameron had my dream job.
A text came through as I was warming up my lunch.
“Can’t wait to see you tonight ;)”, can this day get any better?
“Back at ya!”.
I finished lunch and wrapped up a few loose ends with my editor before heading to see Jared about a new assignment. Before I got to his office, I stopped by the bathroom to freshen up. I looked in the mirror and tucked back a few stray hairs, smudged my eyeliner under my eye, reapplied gloss, and then adjusted my boobs in my bra.
If he thought I looked good, then let my looks work for me today. His door was open, and he was on the phone with someone. It sounded heated.
“I will put her on the article, yes sir. You don’t need to do that. I will handle it.”, he was trying to reassure and calm someone down.
I would hate to be whoever had to write that article. I walked up and down the hall waiting for him to end his call before I knocked. Hoping his good mood from this morning was still present.
“Hey Jared, you ready for me?”, I peeked in the door.
“Yes, come in and sit.”, he seemed irritated.
“I was wondering if I could cover the travel section with Katrina. I have a whole new take on her ideas…” before I could finish, he held up his hand to stop me.
“I don’t want you on travel, you are taking over the River Street Bachelors.”, he rubbed his eyes.
“There are plenty of women in this office who would love that assignment, why me?”, I asked.
“I don’t want you on it either, especially looking like you do. You will have no trouble finding a new husband, but it was an order from my boss. It isn’t up for discussion. You start Friday.”, he began to check me out as if seeing me for the first time.
“I am not looking for a new husband Jared, so chill out. And if I were it wouldn’t be with any of those River Street Pricks. I had my taste of rich businessman this weekend and other than the hot sex it sucked. He was rude and arrogant, reminds me of someone else I know.”, I spat.
“You slept with some stranger?”, he raised his hands in the air.
“Yes, I did. I don’t want to hear anything from you either because you cheated on me and you don’t know how to keep your dick in your pants.”, I stood up and raised my voice.
“I didn’t mean to cheat on you. You stopped showing interest in me and she was just there for me one night and it led to sex. She told me she was on the pill.”, he argued.
“You cheated on me, Jared. I loved you and you hurt me.”, I turned to walk away.
He grabbed me by the elbow turning me around and pinned me to the door with one hand by my head pushing the door closed. We were face-to-face for the first time in 2 years. He looked me in the eyes rubbing my cheek with his thumb as he cupped my chin with his hand.
“I haven’t told you babe, but I am sorry. I am, no woman can fill the void you left when you divorced me.”, he said as he leaned down to kiss me.
Turning his head before our lips could collide. He licked my neck, and I felt a tightness between my legs. My panties were wet, and it wasn’t even lunchtime.
“Jared, I…”, soft moaning as he cupped my breast.
“I like when you say my name. Tell me what you want. I’ll do anything.”, then he went in for a kiss.
My lips parted.
I would be lying if I said I wasn’t waiting 2 years for this moment. I gave in and deepened our kiss. It was familiar and loving. He ran his hands down my dress and began to lift my dress.
I gasped, “Jared, no I can’t”, as I pushed him back and ran out of his office.
This changed everything, except my next assignment. Ready or not I have a new job.
