My Girl
POV: Adrian
Leaving work immediately, I headed for the lab to ensure that the sample was kept confidential. Pulled a favor to get the results within the hour, so I decided to check in with Hendrix for an update on Monica’s whereabouts. Needing something to come back and push me in the right direction.
He was the best at his job, so I knew I could count on him to find something.
I decided to call him, “Hey boss.”, he answered on the first ring.
“Anything to update me on?”, I asked getting to the point.
“Yes boss. I found quite a bit of information you will find useful.”, he didn’t disappoint.
“First, I got a hit back on the print. I am sure you already knew, but it was Monica’s.”, he was right about that.
I knew she was up to no good when she came out of his office and the proceeded to drug me. She needed to get better at covering her own tracks because the evidence was piling up against her. Hendrix had more intel on her, and some of the information did surprise me.
He informed me that Monica had an alternate identity. This identity was able to get her in and out of the country unnoticed. That wasn’t even the shocking part.
It appears that Monica had been using the identity of a maid that had worked for the Daybreak Cancun location for over 10 years. This woman had gone missing several weeks ago, right around the time Cameron first appeared in Mexico. The missing person inquiry filed by another employee was squashed by Monica and the human resources department.
No one reported the woman missing because Monica filed paperwork stating the woman had been accepted to work on the cruise line and then sent a copy of her contract to her family. She had been sending regular payments to the family to make it appear as if the woman was indeed working away from home.
The Daybreak Corporation didn’t have a cruise line and a simple internet search would have uncovered that. A lot of the janitorial staff positions were held by the lower class, who put in hard work and lived off of the grid. I wanted to know where the young maid was or if Monica had taken things too far.
This only made me believe she lied to my face at the meeting.
My thoughts interrupted, “But there is more boss.”, he had been digging deep.
Hendrix had pulled flight logs and noticed that Cameron’s mother took regular vacations to Prurience for over 20 years. It wasn’t until a few months ago that Cameron had joined her for the first time. It appeared as if Cameron was telling the truth, but I still didn’t like him.
Finding CCTV footage was harder than expected because his mother knew exactly how to hide from the camera. This woman was trained in the art of being unnoticed and that just pinned a target on her as a prime suspect. It didn’t help that Cameron let on about his mother’s scams.
I began questioning what she was doing visiting an old man, especially one who owned a resort like this one. Hendrix and I went back and forth on possible scenarios, but none gave me the gut instinct that I was looking for.
Getting ahold of that old woman would be the only way to know for sure, but I would assume everything she said was lie.
Hendrix texted me photos of Cameron and Monica that validated the story explained to me. At least someone wasn’t lying to me, but it didn’t make any sense why she would date some kid from Denver. I knew she wasn’t faithful to me; she had a reputation of chasing the money.
“Where did they go after they left the meeting on Wednesday?”, I asked.
“Cameron went back to the states to lay low. His mother found out the deal was secured, and it appears as if he is hiding from her.”, I could trust his intuition.
“She must want that money. I knew I shouldn’t have wired some kid 16.5 million. Shit!”, wondering how far his mother or Monica would go to get their hands on it.
“Boss, I ran a trace on the kid’s credit cards. He planned a trip for two, the second passenger is Leah. They leave tonight.”, he added.
“Where are they going?”, this fueled my anger toward him.
“You’re not going to like it boss… they are flying to Colorado.”, he informed me.
“Fuck! I will fly back as soon as I get these results.”, I hung up.
Pacing back and forth in the hallway, I was out of patience.
Bowed up to hit the wall, but before I could Sydney opened the door of her office.
Looking up, she nodded for me to enter.
“So, I didn’t find much out from the blood. It was old and dried, little diluted by the water you used to swab it.”, she walked around to her desk.
“Is there anything useful you can tell me?”, pleading for any evidence.
She picked up a folder and handed it to me, “I hope this helps you with your case.”.
Taking a brief look, my jaw dropped to the floor.
“Now get out before my supervisor comes back from lunch and starts asking questions.”, she waved her hand in my face.
“Thanks Syd, I owe you big time.”, I headed for the door.
“Yeah, you do.”, she smiled.
Rushing for the airport, I didn’t care about grabbing my bags. I wanted to be in the air within the hour, which gave me no time for traffic or errands. Hendrix booked me a ticket on the next flight out which would put me back in the states by dinner.
I was a sitting duck on the flight, just waiting for the time to pass. The folder in my computer bag was just what I needed to get answers. Too pumped with adrenaline to sleep, but too bored to do anything other than fuel my jealousy.
It was impossible to make it back before Leah took off, but I didn’t want her going to Colorado. The only way to warn her would be to blow my cover and I couldn’t risk that, not when I am so close to the end. Getting photos from her only made my irritation worse.
The way she posed her body was enough to get me hard, but the thought of her sending these to other men pissed me off. Once my case was over, I planned to expose Cameron for the fraud he was. And Jared? Submissive blood ran through his veins, he stood no chance against me.
All of the women that had filter through my bedsheets had become history. I couldn’t look at another woman, let alone touch a body while I wished were hers. It was Leah or no one; and I would make damn sure to put up a fight.
Leah had changed from when I first met her. She had become more independent and selfish. Both qualities that I favored in a woman because I needed someone to put me in my place from time to time. Swearing off love and building a cage around my heart had protected me until now.
I was fucking ruined. This woman broke me.
Getting back to my apartment, I noticed that Hendrix had updated the suspect board with all of the new information. Noticing he left out a few minor details, I caught myself up.
He walked out of the kitchen with a cup of coffee, “Hey boss.”.
“Hey, you aren’t going to believe this.”, I tossed the folder on the coffee table.
Grabbing it and skmiming through it, “No fucking way.”, he was shocked.
“I know, I didn’t see that one coming.”, I laughed.
“This information changes everything.”, he got up and went over to his computer.
“Can we keep a track on Leah’s phone. I want to know when she lands and where they go.”, I asked while walking away.
I had been deprived of food and sleep just looking for an answer or even a sliver of evidence to help me find Cooper. He was a key role in taking down this organization and finishing my father’s work. Without him, I had nothing.
Hoping a hot shower would clear my mind, I hopped in. The images of Leah in lingerie from earlier haunted my closed eyes. Masturbating wouldn’t restrain the sexual urge I had to feel her warm body next to mine.
My addiction to her body lying next to me had been growing. Each time I left her, I deprived myself of relaxation, rest, and pleasure. Leah was sure to be my greatest weakness and overall demise.
Skipping food, I headed for my bed. Throwing my towel on the foot of the bed, I grabbed a pair of grey sweatpants. The cool air from outside was chilling the room.
Laying there cold and alone in the dark only pissed me off. Needing sleep, I forced my eyes closed letting the whipping wind soothe me to sleep.
I was about to fall asleep when she texted me, “Hey did you know that your boss is Cam’s uncle?”.
“What are you talking about?”, I shot up out of bed confused.
“Mr. VanCooper is Cam’s Uncle Donny. I am looking at the guy right now and that’s him.”, it wasn’t safe for her to be in a room with that monster.
“Where are you?”, I demanded to know.
“Cam’s house. His mom surprised him at the airport and took us to her home.”, her words made my blood boil.
“Leah, get out now. I am on my way.”, any hope of closing my case had left my mind.
The only priority in my mind was getting *MY GIRL*.
