Causalities

POV: Adrian

Feeling like I had been set up, I stood up and started to walk away. One more minute at that table with those pieces of shit and I would have punched them both in the face. They were up to no good, but I didn’t have any proof.

“Adrian, come back. Hear him out.”, Monica’s words only fueled my rage.

I turned back around and stormed up to her, she was standing by the table.

“Why the fuck would I listen to the two of you conniving hypocrites!?", I yelled.

“It’s not what you think. Let us explain?”, she grabbed my hand and guided me to sit back down.

“Let go of me, don’t touch me again.”, I warned her.

She backed off and sat beside Cameron, while I took the seat directly across from them.

I laced my fingers before placing my hands on the table, slightly leaning into it. I looked up at the bodyguard and nodded my head for him to get lost. Then I turned my attention to the two frauds in front of me.

Needing answers from them was the only thing keeping them safe.

POV: Cameron

What was already in motion was out of my hands, but I needed Adrian to hear me out. I never wanted to be a pawn in this game. Understanding his anger and hoping he would understand the position I was put in.

“So, how long have you two know each other?”, Adrian scrutinizing every move we made.

“Monica and I dated for a few months, but we broke up a little over six weeks ago.”, I confessed.

I then explained how my mother finally told me who my father was. It was a shame that my mother had lied to me all of my life. I had believed that my father was a busy man who was too busy traveling for work to take care of me. Turns out he didn’t even know he had a son.

My mother found out he was on his deathbed a few months ago, so she set up a trip to let me meet him. That’s when I came to this resort for the first time. All of the speculation surrounding me up to that point was merely rumors that my mother had spread.

She was blackmailing him into giving her child support for me, that’s the only way we were able to survive. When he died, he decided to leave the resort to me. I didn’t want it, so I decided to sell it. The money would give me the chance to see the world and live my life on my terms.

“All I ever wanted was to be free from my mother’s scams.”, saying it out loud for the first time.

“Then how did you end up with her?", nodding his head toward Monica.

"Then Leah?”, he wasn’t holding back the questions.

Explaining how I met Monica was the easy part, Leah was an unexpected event. When I came for my first initial visit, I refused to stay at my father’s resort. I ended up staying at the Daybreak, that’s where I met Monica.

I was rushing away from my mother who was yelling at me for refusing to accept who my father was. Monica was on the phone, looking down at a packet of paper, and rushing out of the front door. Bumping into her, I knocked the papers from her hands and ended up chasing them in the wind.

Scared that I had upset her, we paused when our eyes first met. She was the most beautiful woman I had ever met, so I asked if I could buy her a drink to make up for making her late to a meeting. One drink led to dinner and that ended up growing into a long-distance relationship.

Things were going great, and we were getting along so well, but then I came for one last visit before my father died. And that is when I noticed Leah at the resort. The moment I laid eyes on her, I knew that I wanted to have her.

Following her around the resort was easy, but every man there had eyes on her. I explained to him the way her curves swayed side to side with each step she took and how I knew I needed her. Only he could appreciate and understand the beauty I saw within her the moment she walked into the resort.

I was standing in the lobby as she exited the taxi van and entered the resort. I knew the type of business my father was handing over to me, but I never thought that I would see two beautiful young women venture here alone. It was mesmerizing.

The moment she left the lobby, I called Monica and met her for drinks. It was then that I explained that I couldn’t be with her. Doing the only thing I knew I could, I broke up with her.

“That was the moment I hated a woman I had never met.”, Monica chimed in.

Monica was pissed off at me, so I wasn’t surprised when she ended up in Adrian’s cabana the next day.

“Seeing her crawl topless into your pool side bed, let me know she had moved on.”, I looked between the two of them.

“Why did you follow her to the city?”, he questioned.

“I needed her, and she didn’t notice me, the way she noticed you.”, I admitted to being jealous.

“That doesn’t explain why you traveled to New York and set up a fake life.”, he pushed deeper.

“I fucking heard the way you talked about her in the lobby as you were leaving. You treated her like shit, and she deserved better. So what? I set up a fake life and have treated her well. You can’t say the same.”, he pissed me off.

“Watch your fucking mouth before it matches your nose.”, he warned.

“Tell me I am wrong? I have been open with her and the only lie I told was about where I was living. She doesn’t want for anything when she is with me. And she damn sure doesn’t have to beg for a good time.”, I threw that last bit in there to piss him off.

His fists hit the table, “I said watch your fucking mouth kid or I walk away from this deal leaving you as broke as your mom will be now that her atm is out of order.”.

There was no convincing him, his mind about me was already made up. And I could give him my whole life story, but he wouldn’t care. I wasn’t completely innocent, but I made sure I made Leah feel like a queen each time we were together.

“So, which one of you sent three men after her?”, Monica and I looked at each other.

“It wasn’t me, look what they did to my father’s house.”, I said.

“Look, I hate that little bitch… but I wouldn’t waste my energy on her. I don’t need three men to half-ass handle what I can handle on my own.”, she wasn’t wrong.

Adrian looked as if he were contemplating scenarios, but it wasn't us who sent three men after Leah.

“I will help you look for whoever it was.”, I figured the offer would set us straight.

Leah was my escape from the shit hole of a life I have lived, I was just as mad someone was after her.

POV: Adrian

Stepping away from the table, I called Hendrix to run his story. Something was still not adding up. If neither of these two were after Leah, then maybe the police rumors were more than speculation.

“Get me call logs, flight manifests, or footage to corroborate their story.”, I ordered.

“Roger Boss.”, he hung up and I went back inside.

I couldn’t wrap my head around why anyone wanted Leah, aside from being wanted for her body she was just an average girl.

And it didn’t add up with Cameron’s father either. I had been with Cooper for years and he never did any illegal business with this resort. I needed to find out why he had a criminal safe house in Canada.

Heading back inside I had a few more questions for them before the business deal could proceed.

“Monica where is Cooper?”, it was odd he hadn’t responded to my emails.

“I have been trying to get a hold of him for week. His calendar says his home in Guam, but I went there two weeks ago, and it didn’t look like anyone had been there in a while.”, this was concerning.

There was never going to be a right time to ask about her drugging me, but that seemed irrelevant now that I knew Cooper was missing.

I couldn’t ask about his father being a criminal without giving away my real identity. My mission was still taking down this organization, but I needed to find Cooper first. In the meantime, I needed Hendrix to find out who was after Leah and why.

Once the personal conversation came to an end, we finished the business deal. I still needed to take over this resort to work toward my goal. Cameron became a millionaire, and I became the proud new owner of a prime criminal location.

With the finish line in my crosshairs, Monica and Cameron were now causalities in my way.
