Stay

Cameron pulled up around 2 o’clock, with Mike driving. I assumed we were flying somewhere because the city had not peaked cold this season yet. It was mid-September, so I assumed we were going somewhere higher in elevation or farther north.

New York had brisk weather this time of year. The days hit around 75 and sunny, but by the evening the cooler air moves in. I really enjoyed the weather in the city, but I could do without all of the rain. Living on the coast meant an increase in rain showers, which was the main reason I didn’t own a car.

As if were customary, Mike opened my door and took my bags from me. He was a nice man, but he was quiet and kept to himself. I often wondered if he were a robot, but I will never forget his moment of humanity when he warned me about Cam. Still unsure of what he meant; it was a nice gesture.

Cameron stepped out of the car, “Wow, you look stunning.”.

His compliment increased the rosiness in my cheeks, “Thanks you.”.

Holding my hand, he helped me into the car before getting in and closing the door behind him.

“Are you going to tell me where we are going?”, I asked.

“To the most beautiful state in the US.”, he replied as he kissed my hand.

“California?”, I said in a surprised tone.

“Oh, maybe Hawaii!”, my mind racing.

“No, you said it would be cold. Is it Alaska? Are we going to see the Northern Lights?”, I was eager.

“Ha ha, no. Colorado.”, his laugh was beautiful.

“Are we going to the hot springs that you posted about a few weeks ago?”, I wouldn’t turn that down.

“We can do that if you would like.”, so he didn’t have anything planned it seemed.

“I didn’t bring a swimsuit.”, doubtful I would need it.

“The one I will take you to is clothing optional.”, he winked at me.

Something about him was different. He seemed nervous; it was like he was overthinking something. I didn’t want to come out and directly ask, but I didn’t want a repeat of our last trip.

“Is everything okay? You are sitting here, but your mind is somewhere else.”, I turned to him in my seat.

He looked me in the eyes, “I want this trip to be what we missed out on last time. I don’t want you to think I can’t be there for you.”.

Cameron was the most sensitive out of the three, so I understood why he felt this way.

“What happened was a freak occurrence.”, I assured him.

Grabbing his face with both hands, “Look at me. I am here and I am fine. I promise.”.

That seemed to ease his mind, but I could still tell he wasn’t fully relaxed.

We sat quietly the rest of the ride, both looking out of our windows or playing on our phones. Looking at the replies from my sexts had me fuming inside. I was ready to rip our clothes off and take him right here.

Unlike last time, we were flying commercial. I didn’t mind at all and would never complain because Cameron had completely booked and paid for everything. He never let me spend my own money, always taking care of me and making sure I had everything I wanted.

Mike pulled up to the curb and opened my door. I slid out and Cameron followed before grabbing my hand and pulling me inside. We didn’t even grab our luggage, he had Mike check our bags.

We didn’t go into the regular glass doors, instead he pulled us into a hidden side door. Most would think it was a service entrance, but inside it looked like the lobby of a grand hotel. It was very fancy with glass flooring and a private check in staff.

In this small, but grand lobby they gave us our boarding passes and gave us a quick security screening. We didn’t have any bags with us, so it only took a couple of minutes before we were lead down a long hallway. The walls were filled with signed blown up photos of celebrities traveling in the airport.

It was magnificent and a once in a lifetime opportunity for a girl like me. We were flying first class and they didn’t skimp on the VIP treatment. The hallway opened to the main terminal and our gate was only a short walk away.

Looking for seats when we walked up to the gate was unnecessary because it was already time to board. Cameron had timed this perfectly to keep us moving. The flight was going to be a quick one, it only took 4 hours to fly from here to Denver.

We were in the air by 4 o’clock, so that meant we would land at dinner time. The fun part about traveling west, was gaining daylight when you traveled. The only downfall was traveling home and adding the hours you had lost going west.

Business first class was nice, very roomy. The last time I was in first class it was with Adrian in the dark. I doubted that would happen today because Cameron was still in a funk. It was starting to bother me.

We didn’t talk much the entire flight, but I kept assuring him that I was having a good time and it was all going to be okay. Starting to think his mood had more to do with something he wasn’t telling me. If he didn’t like Denver, then why did we even come?

Half past six when we finally got to baggage claim.

“What are you hungry for?”, he asked.

“You.”, I chuckled as an old lady glared at me.

“I can arrange that for you.”, there was his sense of humor returning.

“Do I need reservations?”, flirting with him.

“Already done. Our hotel is less than 10 minutes away.”, he grabbed our bags.

“How lucky am I?”, I leaned my head on his arm.

“You’ll like what you have to unwrap then.”, I added as I looked up at him.

His eyes widened and I could tell he was aroused because he moved the bags from his side to in front of him. I was glad he was starting to relax because tense Cam only made me uncomfortable.

We held hands as we walked out the front doors. The VIP treatment didn’t carry over to landing, but I didn’t mind. We walked out and he froze, people kept rushing around us because we were blocking the walkway.

“Shit.”, was all he said.

I looked around and couldn’t figure out what was going on, until I noticed his eyes hooked on a black car. Similar to the one Mike drives for him in the city, except this one was a tad longer with more windows.

Tugging on his arm, “Is everything okay?”.

“Stay here for a moment.”, he walked toward the car as the window rolled down.

I couldn’t hear the conversation, but I don’t think he was expecting whoever was in the back of that car. It didn’t seem like he was getting anywhere with the person, that’s when he opened the door and turned around to me.

He was holding his arm across his waist motioning for me to enter the car. Nervously I walked up to the car. Before holding out his hand and helping me inside, he leaned in and whispered in my ear.

“I am so sorry. I didn’t realize my mom would be here.”, he seemed apologetic.

I didn’t mind meeting his parents. The rule was just put in place to keep things from getting serious, but when you spend a lot of time with someone it is bound to happen. Unless his mom was some crazy crime boss wife, I doubted there would be any issues.

“It’s okay, mothers love me.”, I whispered before kissing his cheek.

The driver came around and took our bags while we entered the back seat. This wasn’t just a town car; it was a full-on limo. His mother sat with her back to the driver, and we sat across from her in the traditional backseat.

She was a beautiful young-looking woman, but she looked oddly familiar. I knew she was Cameron’s mother, but there was something about her that was warming and inviting.

“Hello Leah, I am Valerie. I am glad to finally meet the woman my son has been spending so much time with.”, she was well spoken.

“Hi, it’s nice to meet you too and thank you for the ride.”, I smiled at her.

Dressed as if she had just walked off the runway, she had a slim figure and wore a fitted navy-blue dress. Her legs were crossed and to the side, sitting like a proper woman. Perfectly manicured hands, tan and toned legs, and her hair was flawlessly pulled up onto her head.

She looked like a president’s wife, and it was obvious that she took care of herself. I had seen the monetary reach that Cam’s dad had, so I could only imagine what her net worth was. There was no doubt that in whatever business she had, she was the boss.

“Mom please, can we cut the crap and you tell me where we are going.”, he didn’t seem happy with her.

“Now Cammy, that’s no way to act in front of your girlfriend.”, she said in a condescending tone.

I did like his nickname, but the term girlfriend made me shoot a look to him.

“Mom, we are not dating.”, he told her, and it stung a little.

“Well how am I supposed to know? I didn’t even know about her until 5 minutes ago. She must be something special to you.”, her attitude was giving me a vibe that I didn’t like.

“Can you please just drop us off at our hotel? I will make time to come see you tomorrow while Leah is at the spa.”, it was obvious he didn’t’ want me around her.

“That is no way to treat your mother. Besides Uncle Donny is at the house and he isn’t doing well. Come say hello before you run off traveling the world and forget about us.”, it was then that I knew I didn’t like her.

Cameron was uncomfortable and I didn’t want to be in the car with her anymore. It was no wonder he so easily made terms to keep parents out of it. They may have been close before, but something had changed, and I could tell there was a wedge in their relationship.

I grabbed his hand and gave it a squeeze to pull him back down from his emotional high. One quick check in and then we would be on our way. Let’s just hope his mom understood we were not going there to stay.
