#Chapter 53 Poor Man’s Poison
Olivia’s POV
I do not know how we made it to the bedroom with our bodies entangled with one another. The only time we separated from each other’s tongue and lips was to discard each other’s clothing. The sheer power of the Alpha that I now called mate was overwhelming me.
I cried out his name with every strive, every bite, every kiss that he laid on my flesh. I could hear him groan my name as we both reached that moment where both bliss and agony were company. The last thine that I could recall was Gabriel whispering in my hair, “I love you my Luna,” as I drifted off to sleep in his arms.
As Gabriel and I curl up with each other in bed, I feel a sense of angst. True that I wanted Herold to hurt the way he had done to me all those years, however, I did not want the claiming between these two men to deny me from my duties. I slid out of bed and grabbed Gabriel’s discarded shirt from the floor.
I walked into the bathroom and looked at myself. There were some days since the Moon Goddess had given me a second chance that I would avoid the reflective objects. Today I faced it to see whom I had become.
Staring at myself in the mirror, I saw the Queen Luna Rebecca. Ringlets of dirty blonde curls that fanned her body at every turn. Queen Luna Rebecca was reign and walked with confidence and self worth. Her unreciprocated love was her undoing.
Leaning forward, I tried to smile, but in a flash; I saw my old self. Luna Olivia. The pitiful Luna that lost the love of her existence to a power hungry she-wolf, that was now preying upon others as she did me. I swallowed the bitter pill that I had died unwanted and resented.
Weak young Luna, desperate for the love of an Alpha that did not love me back. Loving I looked at the naked Alpha that was in my bed. True, he was loyal to a fault—he worshipped the ground that I walked on now, but before our death he did not love the Luna that previously occupied this body.
I quickly tied my hair in a messy ponytail and left the bathroom to get dressed. I heard my new mate stir in the bed beside me.
“Where are you off to, my love?” Gabriel asked. I could see the love in his eyes. Pure Devotion.
If only Herold had shown me an ounce of love that Gabriel showed me now. If only Gabriel devoted himself to Rebecca, maybe she would not have jumped to her death. Maybe we would not have been doomed to the tragic endings.
I brush my thoughts away as I leaned forward and slipped my shoes on. “I am headed to finish helping Celine unpack,” I said with little concern for the Alpha’s displeasure.
“I thought—”
“That rutting in the sheets would make me change my mind,” I quipped. “Gabriel, I wanted a divorce. You are adamant about giving me the separation. So this decision is what is best for everyone.”
Quickly, Gabriel leaped out of bed, pushing me against the wall. He brushed his lips at my mating mark. I shuddered at the touch of his lips against my skin. The thought of us in the sheets hours before replayed in my head. However, my anger gave me the strength to push away the desire for my mate’s touch.
“I will not have my Luna defenseless. If you are so determined to continue this farce, I will have no choice but to demand that you reconsider this.”
I groaned at the demands of the Alpha in front of me. “You said we could sleep in different rooms, Gabriel.” I said.
“Different rooms Luna, not in different buildings!” He growled at my actions.
“How is this any different from you wanting to abandon everything and runaway to live out some fairytale?” I snarled.
“That fairytale was for the two of us and, like I said, I wanted to discuss you with Celine.”
I turned around and walked away. I did not have time for a temperamental mate. I did not need Gabriel to protect me. I did not want Alpha Herold anywhere near me. And as for Eugene, I could understand his love for me. However, I could give him nothing else but my friendship.
I told Celine that I needed air away from it all, and she understood. Celine told me that she would finish setting up the house in my absence. I did not hesitate when I started to strip my clothes from my body and shift into my wolf form.
I could feel Gabriel still at the apartment, along with the other guards. At least he respected me enough not to follow me. When I finally slowed down, I stopped at the place where I did not expect to be. I was at the last place that Rebecca took her last breath.
I could feel her wolf whine along with mine. I laid down on the shores and looked at the raging waters. I did not know what to do next. I wanted to make sure that Reese and Mara did not suffer at the hands of Alicia any longer, but my actions were being confused for paranoia.
As I shifted into my human form, I could feel someone approaching me. I turned to see Alpha Gabriel’s wolf striving next to me. He looked at the waters and then at me. There was a deep growl that ended with a whine.
I chuckled for a moment before brushing my hand against his muzzle.
“Settle your nerves mate, I have no intention of ending my life again. I have a mission to see through. I promised myself and all my loved ones I would see my second chance through.”
I did not look at the wolf as he tugged at my clothes with his teeth. He pulled me closer to his body and nuzzled my neck.
“You are truly a stubborn mate, you know that,” I said as I stared into his eyes.
I let out a deep sigh as I leaned into his large frame. I knew he wanted to talk to me, but I would not open the mindlink. If Alpha Gabriel found out the truth, who knows what would become of me?
With in moments he shifted back and wrapped his arms around my body. “Please tell me you are not here—”
I leaned back and planted a kiss on his cheek. “Relax love. I meant what I said. I have no intention of taking my life again.” I brushed the dirt from his face and gave him a smile. I knew that he was still worried about me leaving the palace, but I knew this was the best decision.
“When I found you washed up on the shores, I could not bare losing you.” Gabriel said as he brushed his lips against my neck.
“You were gone for a moment and I felt like you had slipped away from me.” Gabriel turned my body so that I was facing him. “But then you came back to me. You came back to give us a second chance.”
“Gabriel,” I said as I tried to pull away from his touch. “I did not come back to fix us. To be honest, I do not know what I came back for, but I do know that my work is not finished.”
#Chapter 54: Can you forgive me?
Third Person POV
Gabriel finally gave Olivia her space and time to think. However, his condition to letting both women be alone was that there had to be personal bodyguards wherever they went. This was something that Olivia was not okay with, but she felt if she gave Gabríel some reassurance, he might ease up. When she and Celine finally moved into the apartment complex, Olivia felt freedom and relief that she had not felt in a while.
While Olivia was at the hospital, she tried her hardest to avoid Eugene, since he spread rumors about her personal affairs. She knew that friendship was not enough for him, but her priorities lied with her brother’s recovers and even Mara’s. As she made her way to Reese’s room, she saw Alpha Herold sitting in the waiting room.
This should be good.
“Good morning Queen Luna,” Alpha Herold said, bowing his head.
“Herold, is there a reason why you are lingering around?” Olivia said. She noticed when Herold looked around before he talked with her.
“I think you and I need to talk more about the liquid that was found.”
Olivia motioned for him to follow her down to the cafeteria of the hospital. Even though she wanted to avoid all of the Alpha’s in her life, she could not turn a blind eye if Herold had information.
“So I see you and the King Alpha made up,” Herold said with a growl. However, Olivia raised her hand to sto[p him any further.
“My relationship with my mate is none of your concern. Alpha Herold. I am here to discuss whether or not you have found new information.” Olivia said.
She was truly tired of the men around her, believing that she was theirs to control. She was her own person and she would be damned if she let another man result in her destruction.
Never again.
“My apologies,” Herold said, lowering his gaze. He paused for a moment and reached into his pockets. He pulled out a vial that was identical to the one that she found after the attack.
“Where did you find it?” Olivia whispered.
“I found it in between the floorboards. It must have fallen through one of the crack when Alicia was still living in the pack house.”
Olivia felt both wolves inside her, growling in anger and satisfaction. She finally had proof that Alicia was the culprit of poisoning young wolves. She just had to make sure that everyone believed her.
“What is this now?” Olivia heard a growl behind her. She did not have to turn around to see that it was her mate and king standing behind them. His arms were crossed, and he was angry the with display that he saw.
Olivia stood up, but not before grabbing the vials from Herold’s fingertips.
“Before you get upset, my love, look at these.” She showed both vials to her mate.
“And what am I looking at?”
“This is the vial that I found after Eugene and I were attacked by rogues.” Olivia said as she placed that vial in his left hand.
“This vial Alpha Herold found in his pack house, after Alicia was kicked out. It may have been hidden in the floorboard.” The other vial she placed in his right hand.
The Alpha King examined both vials and saw that both vials were the same. “So what to you purpose?” Gabriel said, looking at his mate nad the other alpha trying to win her favor.
“That is not all,” Olivia said sheepishly. She took a step forward and took a deep breath.
She exhaled and continued. “A few days ago I was given my coffee by a nurse…when I took a swig, I found a rather peculiar taste and smell to it. IT was almost metallic.”
She did not see Herold’s face, but as she saw Gabriel’s, there was a mix of emotions. Anger. Shock. Fear. Rage.
“Are you telling me that someone tried to poison you? And you said nothing about the matter. Why?”
“Because if I had said anything you would have called it a vendetta against Alicia. You would have thought I was fabricating the story. I needed proof to make sure.”
“We need to make sure that these vials are what you claim they are and make sure they match each other down to the smell.” Gabriel said as he walked away. Olivia quickly followed behind. She did not make sure if Herold was behind them or if he stayed behind.
As they walked down the halls, they spotted Eugene. When Gabriel called the doctor over, Olivia felt a small bit of resentment towards him. The events of his betrayal were still fresh on Olivia’s mind.
“Eugene, is there a way to test these two vials and see what they contain?” Gabriel asked as he presented both of the vials containing the cloudy liquid to the doctor.
When Eugene took hold of the vials, he quickly examined them. I put each one of them in a separate pocket. Olivia guess that it was to make sure that the vials would not get damaged.
“The Royal Hospital has a facility that examines everything from blood to different types of liquids for medicine. I can use the facility to run the test. But may I enquire to what the vials may contain?”
Olivia stepped forward, gathering her strength. “We believe that there might by the sources to what is poisoning the young wolves. Each vial was found in locations that wolves were injured or links to the culprit.”
Olivia left out Alicia’s name because she did not know who may have been listening in. Gabriel understood her method and humbly agree to his mate’s request.
“Eugene, make sure that it is done as soon ap possible.”
Eugene bowed his head to both his king and queen. “You have my word that you will be the first ones that I call when I have the results.”
Eugene quickly tried to mindlink with Olivia. however she shut him out completely.
After everything that he had downed, she was not ready to forgive him just yet.
As they were leaving the hospital, Gabriel pulled Olivia off to the side and pulled her in for a kiss. As they pulled away for air, he reached and grabbed her hands, kissing both of her knuckles.
“My love, can you forgive me for not believing you?” Gabriel said. Olivia could see in hope and sadness in his eyes.
“I can understand why you were upset, and you were right. Since my friend Olivia’s passing, I have thrown myself against everything and everyone. But I do forgive you for being patient with me and acknowledging that this could be the source of what’s poisoning our people.”
After a short car ride, Gabriel walked Olivia back to her apartment. Gabriel had voiced his concern with her staying her alone again, especially since someone had attempted to poison her. He expressed that they might try again if she let her guard down.
But Olivia was adamant she want to stay with Celine. The further she was away from Gabriel, made it clear that she favored her freedom over the love of any man.
