#Chapter 63:Repent
Olivia’s POV
Herold knew that I only desired to make money for the charities, so it came as a shock to me that in the coming days his lawyer contacted me stating that the Alpha was transferring all of his assets over in my name. Or at least the name I was publicly going as.
“All you have to do is a agree to the transfer and I will wire everything to your account after the call.”
I thought about all the businesses that Herold conducted over the years and how fortunate he had been. How he never once spent a dime on me except when I asked for help with Reese’s treatments. I sighed into the speaker of the phone that sat on my desk.
“I will agree to Alpha Herold’s transferring of compensation for two conditions. One, there is enough left to keep his pack thriving. And two, I will agree if he never shows himself in my presence again.”
There was a brief pause before the lawyer came back to.
“I will make sure he is aware and when he agrees, the transfer will start. Have a good evening, Queen Rebecca.” HE said as he hung up.
I sat down at my desk and ignored my phone, even after receiving several text messages and notifications from my bank. Herold had agreed to my terms and there was more to fund my endeavors.
I was not sad that Herold agree to my request. He finally understood why I always silently faced his harshness and anger. Why I never spoke out against him. At that time he thought I was putting up with everything for his money. But in fact, loving him had enabled me to tolerate everything unconditionally and do anything for him.
I had loved him so much. Had been my former past life. Unfortunately, Herold realized it was too late.
As I began to work more on the charity and other events for Mara and Reese, the door to my office violently swung open. I looked up to see Gabriel, red in the face, standing over my desk with both his hands planted firmly on the side.
“Can you explain to me why I am just finding out that Herold, your former mate, kidnapped you?” Gabriel roared.
I stayed silent as I closed the screen of my laptop.
“That bastard attacked you and kidnapped the Queen Luna and my wife of the nation. Why!”
I stood up out of my chair and went over to my upset husband. I put my hand over his cheek.
“Herold only did it to repent for his misdeeds in my former life, nothing more.”
“Repent,” Gabriel growled.
I closed my eyes and leaned against the desk. “Gabriel, how did you know that Alpha Herold had kidnapped me?” I realized that neither of my wolves mind linked with him during that time. And I had come back home in my car without Herold.
“When you did not come home, I called the Royal Hospital to see if you had fallen asleep with Mara or Reese. They told me you had left hours ago. I went there and looked through the surveillance footage and saw that a hooded criminal attacked you. When the guards and I went to the parking lot, I could smell the Alpha nad your scent even though it was fading. I traveled to his lands but no one, not even his Beta, had seen him since that afternoon.”
I looked over at my phone and then at him. It seemed that before Herold left the parking lot, he turned off my phone and the GPS tracking system.
“As you can see, I am fine and I worked everything out he will not bother me ever again.”
“And how is that? Since he wanted to repent so badly.”
“Instead of killing him, he transferred a substantial amount of his assets to me as a deal.”
Gabriel pushed off my desk, scoffing at me. I knew he would not be pleased with the way I handled Herold and the kidnapping, but I did not think he would go to the extreme.
“You should have killed him or brought him back here and let me rip out his beating heart.”
“And what purpose would that serve, Gabriel? More tabloids about your jealousy or my affairs across the nation. I forgave him, but I also clarified that there will never be anything between us.”
“For now,” Gabriel spat. I could tell there was no getting through to him. Gabriel was furious and annoyed by the situation.
“He throws a few millions at you and your anguish towards him vanishes.”
I glared at him. “Nothing has vanished, Gabriel. I still have memories and nightmares of everything that I suffered from him and Alicia. He wanted repentance so he can pay for it by giving back instead of pursuing me.”
Gabriel stormed off without another word. And I shut myself in the office until my eyes grew heavy. When I did not sense him near, I went into the spare bedroom and went to bed alone.
For the next few days there was a cold war between Gabriel and I. During public appearances, we acted like we were the perfect couples kisses and touches for the world to see. However, when we got home at night, I closed myself off to my work and Gabriel stayed in his office away from me.
Days turned to weeks as Gabriel refused to acknowledge me inside the home. I would be lying if I said I did not miss his touch. Everything in front of the public was forced and untrue. His feelings and intentions were alive in the manor.
Right now, he wanted nothing to do with me.
As I slept alone in bed, my thoughts of the caresses and touching that ignited between Gabriel and I. Before I was kidnapped we were getting closer. Sneaking away in his office to wrap my legs around his waist.
Ripping clothes off after dinners and banquets, biting down his shoulder so no one could hear us. I slipped my hands in my shorts, feeling how wet my folds were getting just by the thought of my mate touching me.
As I arched my back to graze my fingers across my body just like Gabriel would, a new face took his place. It was not the Alpha King that stir feelings inside of me any longer. It was the man that dropped to his knees, begging to sacrifice everything at my feet.
Herold.
I jolted awake, deeply breathing at the thought of having a dream like that about a man I wanted nothing to do with. My emotions were torn between two men that had pledged themselves to others but never to me.
While Gabriel spoke words to my souls, he was looking at Rebecca’s face. He loved the idea of her no longer clinging to him and that there was trust in the relationship when there was none.
Herold was always looking for Alicia in me and with her gone I feared he was trying to do so without even know. Hell, he pursued me in the Queen Luna’s body because he was searching for his dead luna in everything.
I left the room to head to the kitchen for a drink of water. In the light, I saw Gabriel in the dark without a shirt on.
“Why are you still awake?” He asked.
“I could not sleep, bad dream.” With my scent in the air, I knew he was aware of me lying, but he did not push the issue.
“Gabriel, can I ask you a question?” I whispered.
I could make out him motioning me to come closer. I sat near him at the island, breathing in his scent.
“Go on,” he said.
“When Rebecca was alive…did you ever… What I mean it was there ever a time..”
Gabriel sighed. “You want to know if Rebecca’s suspicions of infidelity were true?” He responded to my hesitation. All I could do was nod.
“I never walked out on my marriage with Rebecca. Even though I was not fully invested in our marriage, at first I out the nation and the pack before her wants. I thought that she knew being at my side meant that she would not always have me constantly at her back and call. However, I was not even there when she pleaded for me to hear out her grievances.”
Grievances? That was the same word Herold used for the issue between us. Was I still concerned with my former life and love?
